they are 28 lbs as compared to 22 lbs continentals....
6x4x5(rolling mass for tires) = 120lbs
I am really looking at a lightweight setup....~35lbs overall....if the rims are 15-16, my tires cant be more than 20
I might have to take the tires you mentioned and have tirerack do the tire shave that Inaccurate mentioned....
Definitely do NOT get the 17x8...you will def regret it...
First, the look isn't nearly as nice as the 17x9 and wider...it has a pumpkin face...as opposed to the concave look of the 17x9+
Secondly, you're limiting yourself to a smaller tire size...check my Sig for what I got...and I could not be happier with the size, look, and performance....
Besides the weight difference between the 8 and 9+ is so minuscule...that def should not be a factor at all...
You will be disappointed with the 17x8 no doubt....

Thanks for letting me know thow....I will look into the 17x9's....maybe a reverse staggered setup LOL....
here is the rpf01 weight chart:
17x7:14.6lbs
17x7.5:15.2lbs
17x8: 15.6lbs
17x8.5: 16lbs
17x9: 15.9lbs (really?)
17x9.5: 16.5lbs
17x10: 17lbs
so if each rim is 2 lbs more...its 24lbs of rolling mass....which is not much....you sir are right

shit...went to edit my post and u guys were on a roll there LMAO....
Thanks for the info guys....
Rex,
am looking into a BBK swap from the 6mt...and yeah I might have to get spacers for the rpf1's to clear....
Fenda,
Thanks for the info man....really....I am still undecided on what to do...I actually might do the reverse staggered setup....it will help the clearance upfront and keep it nice and light on the rear....

sorry....i forgot the mention....
but if the rims are wider hence heavier so are the tires....
So imagine 245 tires are 22lbs and 8" rims are 15...total 37lbs
now 9" rims are 17lbs and then you are looking at 275 for tires which will be ~26lbs total of 43lbs...
you will be better of running stock rims on continental DW tires which totals around 45lbs....
great....now u guys got me thinking again....

No prob at all Swoosh! But yea, those Star Specs are wicked heavy...especially compared to the Conti DWs...the DWs are some of the lightest tires out there...and they handled great for me on my race 08 Civic Si 4 door...they lasted 2 race weekends with plenty of tread left and did not chunk at all...and they are one the best wet performance tire too!

Actually the 17x9s are 15.9 lbs like you said earlier...and I would only go 255 on those wheels...275 is probably not needed and might actually rub? My 255s fit perfectly and I will definitely race with that size...

^^^ yeah my current setup is at 51 lbs...18x8.5 rims at 25lbs and tires at 26lbs...
but yeah, wanted to be between 30-35 lbs for the rims + tires...still have to find the right setup....
anyone done a reverse staggered setup to save weight and get max traction ?

This is the utmost lightest possible. This is with the lightest rims possible with the lightest tire possible (having dangerously worn down thread depth too).
With the same rims (lightest available) and same tires (among the lightest available) but with full thread depth, it weighs 35.5 lbs. So, you will probably need to adjust your goals accordingly.
For me, I will be rocking a less than 33 lb per corner set-up at all times. No more full thread depth tires for me.

The rims are Motegi TrakLite 2.0. The rims weigh 14.5 lbs each. The factory rims weight 24.5 lbs each. I purchased the rims from TireRack.com. The website for Motegi is www.motegiracing.com.
The rims are one-piece forged. In 2007 when I purchased them, the price from TireRack was $288 each. The factory TPMS sensors fits perfectly. The offset is 45, exactly as stock. The rims are 17x8, exactly as stock.
For tires, I got the Michelin PS2 because they are designed to be lightweight. Plus, the PS2 is highly rated for performance and are sticky.
I went with the 235/40-17 size to get the smallest diameter and lightest weight (24.4 inch and 21.0 lbs.). The small diameter tire has the following advantages:
1) Improved braking performance - the rotor has increased leverage against the road.
2) Improved acceleration from a dig - more favorable effective gearing.
3) More favorable Moment-of-Inertia - mass is located closer to the rotational axis (less flywheel effect).
4) Less weight - removing unsprung weight and greatly reducing dynamic weight.
Basically, it is just the opposite of the complaints that you normally hear regarding the performance-robbing 20-inch wheels.
As a side note, the oem rim + oem tire weighed 51.0 lbs. My current rim + new PS2 tire weighs 35.5 lbs. These rims + shaved PS2 tires weigh 32.5 lbs each. That differnce will teach anyone of the value in reducing unsprung weight.

^^^ thank you sir....
I remember a thread you started about using 255's on the stock rims....but I guess 235's are a better option....i do want some extra traction, hence thinking of 245's but well....we will see....
EVERYONE
List of the lightest rims....
http://www.wheelweightsX.net/
remove the red X before submitting....it downloads an excel file....I went ahead and added filter to the top column in the excel and selected few 17" and 18" rims....then sorted by weight.....the lightest 17x7.5 is @ 9.5lbs
anyway check it out !!! its got a ton of rims and sizes....the list has 5K rims/sizes....
Hope this helps...

Thought I'd update y'all on the new goodies that have been installed on the car recently. Since the last track day, the following parts have been installed/upgraded:
-BC coilovers 14k/7k springs dampers -6 front -4 rear (from full stiff)
-Front ball joint camber kit and upper control arm rear camber kit. Front camber was -1.5* and rear was -2.6*
-Front brake ducts to the back of the rotors right next to the caliper.
-Rear diffuser pan is installed, still pending fins and paint.
-And a few small things that I can't remember lol
So a friend with a new Stang 5.0 and another with a SC'd vette and I went out to a little honey hole we have close to where we live. It's a housing developing that was started but never had a house built on it. As you can see, it's quite the little course to test out some new suspension work.
I just wanted to put everything new on the car through the paces so there would be no surprises the next time I get up to Road Atlanta. Overall, It was an instant feeling of money well spent. The turn-in feel with the stiffer suspension increased negative camber is simply fantastic. I set the dampers fairly stiff but still have room to go stiffer if needed but I doubt I'll be needing it. Front end didn't dive much at all under braking with the rear end feeling just the slightest bit unsettled under max braking. I still have a comfortable amount of oversteer which is nice to use pitching into the corner as I'm on the gas all the sooner and pulling out of the apex.
Took the opportunity to use my handy dandy pyrometer to get some initial tire temps to see how the camber will probably need to be adjusted when actually at the track. Since most tracks run clockwise, (RA being one of them) I ran our little course for about 5 laps and then stopped for some on the spot temps. Results to both surprising and as expected with the following numbers.
All four corners with format being outside middle inside of the given tire.
FL: 115 117 114 (literally perfect)
RL: 97 109 110 (difference of just over 10%. so little less neg camber needed on this one)
FR: 103 111 113 (less than 10% diff so maybe .1 or so less neg camber and she'll be perfect)
RR: 83 92 107 (this was really surprising but not really being it was on the back and inside of most of the turns and was probably off the ground some too lol)
So definitely some work to do. Finish up the rear diffuser and work out the camber and she'll be a new beast at the track. Can't wait for better tires, new abs pump so brakes are back to 100% and new wheels

Previously just had some BWR coilovers. springs were ok, but dampers were way to soft. Running Bridgestone RE050's right now but can't wait to get off them. PCD's are great. Getting my RV-6 vinyl on the car asap btw. Rich has definitely earned some space on my car.

Yeah deleted the AC so no reason to keep the fan for it. Ran all out today and never was over 180* water temp, gotta love the engineering Acura gave us.
Engine mounts are in the works in the near future.
tires will be Hankook RS-3's or full slicks for next season

Excellent! I was at the track today too! (Not in the TL yet though...) Just supported my racing crew at Motorsport Ranch Cresson just outside Fort Worth...it sure was a cold rainy weekend!
How did you do? Any pics/vids this weekend?
And good choice with the RS-3s...that's what I'll be running in the spring as well...what brakes do you have?

Haha! The only reason I probably noticed is because I just ordered my Innovative's over Thanksgiving (Corsport had them pretty cheap) and I should be getting them tomorrow! I need them quick...I can feel a lot of engine movement....

with the mods you have you will "donut" the 60A like in a week....and dont worry about returning it, talk to Innovative mounts and just ship back the bushings and they will ship you the new bushings....
or buy the 75A bushings from them and they will refund you the $$$ when you return the 60A bushings
