In short, nothing you will notice. This is purely for the sake of sound.

Then what is a good way to increase the power a little...my buddy owns a shop and he can build me an exhaust if i want him to, I just dont know exactly how to go about it...like put in 3inch piping and then getting the appropriate resonator, y pipe, and mufflers? First things first is I want to make my TL sound better, but I would love to get a little more out of it if I can

You can go with a J-pipe and an exhaust.
http://www.acuratlparts.com/product.php?pid=3

I wouldn't go with 3 inch. Anything bigger than 2.5 is overkill for our engine especially if your not boosted.

Just out of curiosity if anyone has attempted to take out the 2 mufflers on top of the mid muffler and resonator??? I assume this would be the loudest.

Or maybe just leave the resonator and mid muffler in and just take out the 2 rear mufflers. So this way you can still keep the OEM tips.

I wouldnt recommend it, it would make the car entirely way to loud and out of control, I just finished the stage two and it sounds good, I can hear it from inside, but not too loud and it sounds good.

Stage 2 plus AEM CAI is perfection IMHO. Not overpowering while cruising but ROARS when you're on it . Has a nice deep mellow tone at low rpm.

Hello tl'rs

Im from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Decided to do the mod, a locate parts store had the Dynomax 24215 in stock so I was able to do all of this in under 1hour.

Dynomax 24215 = $70 CAD
Labor 1 hour work = $100 CAD <- could have got it done for $50 at my mecanic but his pipe bender was broken so.

Total = $170

I had to take my tl out of storage to get this done - I was pretty upset it picked so muhc salt and dirt in that few hour drive hehe.

I had taken some vids that I will be posting on youtube. It was taken with my blackerry, so some of it is not the clearest sound.

But it sounds amazing, everyone looks.

^^

Any exhaust that is louder outside the car is going to be louder inside the car. Anything else kind of defies the laws of physics.

If you change the exhaust, you'll notice a difference in sound, inside and out - period. You trade off the amount of "deep throaty roar" outside for the amount of "quiet comfort" inside.

I did stage 1 , then 2 , but should have went with 3.
Those you tube vids, are too loud to judge.
I m running stg 2 on my 2nd day. I was hoping for it to be louder.

Trust most of these guys here and go with the stage 3. (don't pay attention to the youtube stage 3 vids ) I think something is wrong with that installation... (i think)

Would it make any good sound if you just replace the resonator only and not the straight pipe?

no, because the Str8 pipe purpose is to get rid of the "silencer"

i jus got the stage 3 mod done finally after months of contemplating and 4 week of the dynomax chilling in my room.. first thing i noticed was the definite note change right at start up sounds great, when idle it is not too noticeable. my first impression was that I thought it was going to be louder. can't wait till it breaks in some more.

Mrhenchen, you'll notice when you drive there is this sweet spot with the stage 3 mod. Mine is right at 2800-3000 rpm. Over time I got accustomed to shifting in that area to maintain the hollow metallic G35 note. I've lost count on the random compliments

I did stage 3. It sounds awesome!! Not too loud at all, and no rasp. Sounds the way it should have from the factory...

Did stage 3 on mine. I think it sounds good, especially under moderate to hard acceleration. There is no rasp or ricey sound. Definetly doesn't sound "nasty".

At idle, when cold, it's a little rough and a little loud (not after market loud, but compared to stock).

There is a resonance at around 2,000 rpm, especially when cruising in automatic. It can be a little annoying, but I think part of the reason is that the Resonator is basically right under your feet. I rarely cruise in that RPM range in full auto.

I've got no complaints, but my wife .... .

I think I'll go that route and maybe do the mid later. I'll go make a stock sound clip now. I'm just worried about how it will sound after its uploaded.
When you removed the mid muffler and added the straight pipe...have you have any rust problems yet???? I have a 2007 TL Type S wanna do it but paranoid about the pipe rusting out????

^^

Why?

It's not like the TL-S exhaust is stainless or painted. It's just plain old aluminized/galvanized pipe - same as you'd get at any muffler shop.

is the stock exhaust system mandrel bent? beacuse I noticed post #528 shows some installed pics of the different stages but all the non oem pipes installed look to not be mandrel bent.
