So I'm assuming you used the Magnaflow resonator?

no i used a dynomax and removed the mid muffler. I drove it from Atlantic City to Six Flags last night and it sounded awesome. Even my friend told me it sounded almost like the G35 exhaust and for the money it was worth it. I just hated the fact that my car was silent.
#1526
Which Dynomax did you use? Is it a silencer?
#1527
So after all this reading i seem to be missing some things. I still dont understand all these "stages". I want to do the resonator with a DYNOMAX 24234 and a mid muffler delete with a strait pipe. right now im going to keep the rear cans as they are.
Now my main question is this all legal with the set up im looking for??? I have free inspections from acura and i want it to pass with no issues.

I see that you guys are getting the straight pipe Welded on ..
I was thinking about just buying the pipe , and just getting hangers . And then installing it myself . Wouldn't this be cheaper ?

yes i bought a dynomax 24234, and had a straight pipe ran where the mid muffler was. I got mine done at meineke. They did a nice job. You will pass the State Inspection or any inspection for smog. The mid muffler and stock resonator are only for sound.

One final ?? i was a lil confused on... or maybe i just want some added assurance (OCD)...
The dynomax 2 1/4" the perfect fit?? in other words im a heck of a welder but cannot expand pipe if i was to buy the 2 1/2" pipe. and what size pipe would i need for the strait pipe?? Thanks guys...

Well, I got a Dynomax 24215 from Amazon today ($37.78 with free shipping) and talked to a local shop to get the mid muffler removed and the stock resonator replaced. They want 50 bucks for the job, I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
Wish me luck!

hey rick give it a week or so and your car will sound very nice.....go into a closed off parking lot on a cold day, turn on your car and youll drop your jaw.....
also another recommendation to hear your car is to go into a long bridge stay on third gear at around 2800-3000 rpm and youll see what i mean.....
=D its just how i discovered to come to LOVE my car more....if anyone knows wat im talking about give me holla....lol

From what I read in this thread, some folks had some rattling with the Magnaflow. It wasn't pinpointed on the resonator, but the installations seemed to be done well. Others thought the Magnaflow sounded raspy.
Most seemed to like the Dyanmax better, but did note it was a bit louder than the Magnaflow (which in turn was a bit louder than the stock resonator).
It's not actually SS pipe. It's (aww, crap, what's the right word???) Aluminized?, Anodized? Coated Aluminum? Not steel, something else. Can't find it, but its somewhere in the previous 39 pages. Sorry.
Here is a link to the Dynamax ($39):

BTW - if doing both at once (Resonator and Mid-Muffler delete) most are suggesting cutting out 1 big piece (old resonator and mid muffler) and installing the new resonator followed by a single pipe all the way back to the remaining exhaust pipe. Bent to fit of course.

Much needed advice...

I have not taken it in yet. (appointment for next week) It's a small mom and pop place called "Brownsburg Muffler" right there on main street, couple miles west from O'Riley raceway park. They were really hesitant at first when I told them what I wanted, so I took everyone's advice and just said "get it on the lift and let me show you what I want".
After that they were fine with it.

Yeah, I wanted the Magnaflow, but I heard people having issues with it so I went with Dynomax. Was interested in the SS casing since we get snow here. Guess we will see how well it holds up after a couple years of salt.

Just got my 'Stage 3' done today with the 2.5" Dynomax and I love the sound, though lower than I expected.. the youtube vids make it sound a lot louder. No worries though, now my car has an exhaust note. I like how regular cruising on the freeway it sounds stock until you get on it.

Couple hours out with the stage 3 complete. Not bad, it's just a little louder than before. The tone is a little deeper. Pretty sweet so far, I'll follow up after it's had time to break in to see how it sounds in a few weeks.

i just deleted the mid muffler and the resonator with a 2.5 straight pipe. i was the best mod i have done i has the perfect sound even better the the G35 deeper and stronger. the straight pipe runs from the cat to the factory mufflers. this is the way this car should have come from the factory. i LOVE it.

you should read the previous 30+ pages and watch the videos to make your own opinion. It would also behoove you to read the rules & faq's sticky in the 3G section. Rule #1.. Search before asking a question.. because it has more than likely been covered already.

Definitely the most cost effective mod I have done to my TL. My mechanic and I actually did not do a mid-muffler delete. We had the car up on the hoist and decided that at that time we didn't have the tools or piping to remove the mid-muffler.... So we gambled. Took the stock resonator out and put in the Dynomax reso.. NO DIFFERENCE.. SO we decided to cut open the mid muffler and turns out it isn't actually a muffler at all rather another resonator.. in the form of a can rather than pipe...Hollowed out all the junk in the mid muffler, welded it back up and voila!! Stage 3 exhaust and growl.. Had this done 2 weeks ago.. DEFINITELY recommend this mod for anyone that is on a budget or doesnt want full cat-back

Hi their. Just got the MID MUFFLER DELETE...I can tell you that it is not really worth doing, yes it gives you the SLIGHTEST difference in sound but not really....anyways im pissed!

lol.. it's not the mid muffler, it's the resonator that changes the exhaust tone. the mid muffler delete amplifies the difference and removes a slight amount of backend restriction. Change your resonator. I recommend Dynomax / stage III.
