Have a muffler shop cut out the midmuffler, and then replace your resonator with this:

Dynomax 24234 Ultra Flow Aluminized Steel 2 1/4" In/Out Muffler

50 bucks shipped from amazon.

This is a stage 2 mod?

(Yeah, I am on the same boat... Just had my eyes dilated but I can't stay away from Acurazine, lol!)

Perhaps someone can win this thread over by listing all the stage specs (Stage 1-4)

Sorry if I am hijacking (or w.e you call it) this thread.

I'll try and help out with what the different stages are. I could be wrong but I think this is what people call them here.

Stage 1 - Mid muffler delete. Take out the mid muffler and replace with straight pipe.

Stage 2 - Mid muffler delete same as stage 1, except also replace stock resonator with a magnaflow resonator.

Stage 3 - Mid muffler delete same as stage 1, except also replace stock resonator with a dynomax resonator.

Stage 4 - Mid muffler delete same as stage 1, except also remove the resonator and replace it with a straight pipe.

I believe these names are given based on the intensity of the sound after the mod. I'm not entirely sure since I haven't heard them but this would make me think that this means the dynomax resonator would be louder than the magnaflow one.

For what it's worth, I'm going to be doing "stage 3" in a week or two. I have the resonator just have to get it welded.

Just curious,
I have my mid muffler replaced with a straight pipe. I am getting more frequent "Tighten fuel cap" messages on my 07 type S.

Is there any way that the Stage 1 can affect emissions.. I am kinda expecting that if I go to the dealer, they are going to blame the mid muffler delete..

Completely unrelated.

Even if you had, for example, a bad weld that made the exhaust leak, you would not get a gas cap warning.

I guess I knew that a leak behind the CAT and o2 sensors would not throw a code, but I was more curious if the reduction in back pressure could affect anything..

Question anyone know of any cheap places to do this in Norcal Near 510/408 area and order the magnaflow resonator?

im looking to remove the midmuffler and add straight pipe and remove the stock resonator with the magnaflow 14inch (seems the 14inch gives the deepest tone?)

Need someone to install for me. thanks

find a good shop and use stainless steel. have them tig weld the stainless with flanges so that you can remove pieces easily at a later date if you decide to do any other modifications.

stage 2 mod is a good choice imo, dyno resonator has a nice sound to it.

Check out Youtube. Also, there's a lot of threads on this with clips and or explanations!

I have the Stage 3 and it's great. Certainly quells the need for noise. Quiet when cruising, but loud when you hit it. People definitely double take on the streets. Unexpected from a TL.

Unfortunately, I need to quell the need for power now... so catback + j-pipe is on the horizon!

People delete the mid muffler and resonator on the factory exhaust to give it a little more tone i.e having a muffler shop cut those out and weld in a straight pipe. Gives you NO HP, just sound.

Anyone in the bay area with a Stage 2 and Stage 3 mod on a stock system? I want to check it out in person before making the leap.. the videos are probably louder than it is in real life, but just wanted to see and hear it in real life.

Thanks, sounds pretty good, you barely notice it, it is like stock but a little louder on WOT. I don't know if other members have it louder but mine isn't.

Is there any reason that this would affect emissions/ inspection? I called a muffler shop yesterday and the guy said that I would fail inspection by deleting the mid muffler. He also quoted me $120 for the muffler removal. Is this guy just full of it? Or is there any chance i will fail inspection.

he probably thinks for some reason that you meant the 3rd cat. show him a picture of the part you mean and make sure he understands it's just a muffler haha. $120 seems pretty steep too. I thought I got price gouged for $100 for mid muffler delete, and swapping stock resonator to dynomax.

I'd tend to stay away from a shop that can't tell the difference between a muffler and a catalytic converter to be honest lol.

if for some reason you're ever around sacramento you can check mine out. I live in Davis and have stage 3 on stock exhaust. It sounds pretty good to me, wish I could afford a real exhaust right now though.

With that post and all the videos and information noted, I think you should be able to decide for yourself what you should and should not expect. I am have minimal posts on the site but posting it all again and answering your own question is just.......pointless.
