I don't quite understand your question? Are you asking that if you don't have an intake, then doing a stage 1-3 mod WON'T sound any different? If that is your question, then my anwser is to listen to the videos in the first post of this thread. None of those people have intakes and it sounds plenty different.

Just removed 3rd Muff

I have been holding back from doing anything to my TL-S being that it's my daily. I removed the intake shenanigans from the resonator down the day after I got the car but stopped at that. Well last week I had an impulse to do the 3rd muffler delete and man I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Just gives it a little tone as compared to the stock, anemic sound...or lack there of. Definitely recommend it to others.

Nothing major, just a 'stage 1' exhaust mod but I am loving it. Now I wonder how long it will be till I have a J-pipe on it...

Realistically none. I did it so it would sound a bit more pleasing.

I just did the stage 3 on mine yesterday, along with a test pipe. I think it depends on the j-pipe, for example, where they "Y", which might change the note a bit. I am curious tho myself.

Yes it sounds different. But not much.

Stage 3 has a slight drone. With J-Pipe, the drone is reduced and the tone is a little deeper. Then, with test pipe added, you get a little drone back.

The "drone" is slight/minor and really only in high gear (5th on an AT) and low(er) speed, say, ~40 mph or so.

Thanks man, I really love it. If I drive like a grandma, you wouldn't even be able to tell that I changed anything, but if I push it a little so it shifts at about 3.5 or 4k, it has a very nice purr like a g35 but a lot deeper.

I don't see myself going any further than this as it is a luxury car and IMO anything more than stage 1 starts to get raspy and i dont get why you would want such a beautiful car to sound that way.

Good price for stage 1 exhaust?

I heard people getting quotes of $30-$50 but I called two shops and both said $110. Maybe I am describing the process wrong?

Stage 1=Mid Muffler delete. Am I correct? Whats a good shop to go to do this? Any muffler shop like Monike/Midas?

Just lie and say you called couple months ago and that the manager said it would only cost $40. Most of the time it would work.

I wouldn't pay more than $40.

I had something similar done on another car and it was $40. $25 to reinstall, I wasn't happy with the sound

Resonator Delete...

So, about 3 month ago, I got my mid-muffler replaced with a straight up. After looking at threads/pics on here about this.. I've come to realize it was my resonator that was replaced, and not my mid-muffler. Do muffler shops really not know the difference between a resonator and a mid-muffler? And now, what should I do? take it back and tell them? Or keep it the way it is? I mean, it sounds good...

Interesting. Did you tell them which is which? Some mufflers are round so I can see how they messed it up. It shouldn't be hard to put the resonator back on and take out the right thing.

I did the mid muffler delete yesterday for $30. Love the sound. Not to loud, yet noticeable. I love it. I wanted a full exhaust but at the end of the day. This is a my luxury car so I'm not going to make it uncomfortable with drone and what not. Thanks for all the info in this thread. Very helpful.

Because, all cars are different. They have different resonators, mid mufflers, etc.

you should have done a little more research and pointed out to the shop, which one is the mid-muffler.

No, IMO, they don't know. They can't be familiar with the terminology we use here and with the specific layout of every car that shows up.

Personally, I'd go back and put an aftermarket (Dynomax) resonator in and delete the mid-muffler.

DatDereTL - please don't post the same question, twice, in different threads. Tks.

Threads merged.

Exactly. When I had my car done I had them put it on the lift and pointed everything out specifically so they knew exactly what to do.

Hey guys, been reading up on this thread for a while, I wanted louder sound coming outta my 07 Tl-S so i took it to a shop on monday and removed mid muffler and resonator, and got it straight piped stock size (2.25) knowing the risks of getting that rasp i hear with this stage 4 mod.. ..
im on the fence with this mod.. when im cruising around 2-3000 rpms, that raspiness bugs the shiet outta me, but once i punch it pass that, that raspiness is gone and it roars!

i also forgot to mention i have a takeda cai so that in combination with the stwage 4 mod rocks! but only after i throttle past 3k rpm.. im strongly thinking about goin back with stock resonator and leaving mid muffler off, like what most people tend to enjoy, or get an aftermarket resonator (dynomax, flowmaster) any suggestions?

^^

If you add a resonator back, do Dynomax. Not Stock. IMHO.

Yes, absolutely. I added one to my stage 4 (was too raspy) to tone it down to stage 3, and it has the perfect amount of loudness, and no rasp.

People with stage 1 : No inside drone whatsoever no matter what RPM range/speed you are at years after the mid muffler delete?

I just wanna know if a stage 2 or 3 will add any HP besides being louder, and if so how much will it add?

no it won't add anything, it'll just make it louder. you/people will think it's faster bc it's louder, but it's not.

IMO, an utter waste of money. save up for a catback.
