I hear you. It's the same around here. Unless it's an out of the box item, everyone thinks it's going to throw off the computer.

Hey Aznbo,

Had mid-muffler removed and dynomax res. installed Tues. So far so GREAT!!!! Sounds awesome and total cost $125. Best $ I ever spent. Hoping for a tad more volume as the days go by. Im real happy I went with dynomax. Thanks everyone that has contributed to this thread. Look forward to results with your catback system. Also I will jump to your air filter modification thread....Very interesting!

Glad you love it. I still love the way it sounds as of today. It doesn't intrude into your in-car conversations one bit, but you know it there .

I wish I could keep this sound/tone of my exhaust, but certain visual enhancements (i.e. 07 rear a-spec kit) don't permit for such a foolish thing, lol.

Hopefully if everything goes well next thursday, I'll have a nice, juicy thread up.

Hey C-Drift,

Im going on 48 hours since install and Im already noticing an improvement with the sound level and quality...IT'S fantastic. I noticed a louder tone on my start this morning also !. The last 6 months i seriously thought about trading in my TL....no more!! Stage 3 with new rubber on the way, the TL is reborn! Only wish I did this 2 years ago.

I will check out the long bridge recomendation later this week, except it will be a long tunnel nearby in West Springfield, Mass. (yes im jealous of all you So. Cal residents on A.Zine.) The 2800-3000 rpm # sounds good, as I notice it seems to sound best in this rpm range. Almost seems to get quieter as rpm's increase after 3500 rpm's. My imagination??? Hard to judge inside the car. going to get my brother one day to drive my TL and I will follow to observe sound outside the car.

To anyone thinking about this mod...just do it, I can't see anyone not liking this. Also go with Anzbo recomendation.. stage 3 dynomax. The sound is not raspy or obnoxious in anyway. For the money its a great bang for the buck!

yeap totally agree, i just had it done, bough the Dynomax at Sumit racing, and had it all done at a Meineke. (MAKE SURE YOU GO TO A REAL MEINEKE, not one of those wack ass, Meineke representations....unless they are really good)

stage 3 is definately very hot, and i love the fact that since i have the fujita, when i dont want to be obnoxiously loud, i keep it in the lower RPMs and it's just a low growl out back, if i really want a nice, sporty sound, i just drive normally

YUP YUP!!~~~ lol.....i love my car ever since i got it.....it gives it the extra mean growl that i wanted and plus its sounds uber cool.....=D

yea those will be the rpms that will give u the loudest sounds....after 3500 rpms its all engine sound. also inside the tunnel, the echo will be the craziest thing you will ever hear from a TL....i got goosebumps when i heard it. lol.

and im proud to say, i got props from a white guy driving a hayabusa inside the tunnel......MUWHAHAHAHA

Just got Dynomax/Stage 3 put on..sounds nice but I was expecting it to louder..haha but i heard it gets louder as time goes on..Pretty satisfied with it..I remember seeing Aznbo's video on youtube and he didnt have any mufflers on it..the guy at midas told me that I should consider putting pipes in place of mufflers and leave the stock tips so it looks stock and it should make it sound louder as well?

Don't do that. It's going to be extremely loud and you won't like it, I promise you.

Doubt that will happen. I don't see TL getting much aftermarket support for a while...maybe the TL-S if anything though.

Wondering if this is a decent quote, or if i'm out of my mind for spending this much. Meineke shop by recommended cutting from the end of the resonator to the end of the mid-muffler and take that entire section out and replace it with new pipe which they will flange and bolt on. I know flanging is more expensive by nature and cutting out the entire section requires more pipe and bends..etc, and I kinda agree with them as far as ease of going back to stock if that was necessary.

The entire job would run $300(flanged) / $225(non-flanged)....yay or nay? What are you guys paying for this same job?

rcz,

Is that job including the cost of the new resonator? Either way, I think flanging this type of mod is a bit overkill, but it's up to you. Same performance, if you go back to stock, you can always weld it back on, won't really make that much of a difference.

If this is the price for just pipping, not including the cost of a resonator? If so, that's pretty pricey. I paid about $80 for the same thing, without flanges. Probably $150 with flanges.

I would suggest trying some of the "shabbier" towns, rather than the name-brand places.

I've read this thread several times (all pages!), and this info is great.

I had my mid-muffler removed today, and can't really notice a difference, as I suspected. So I just ordered Dynomax WLK-24234.

For people in the Philly area, I used Low Cost Exhaust - they have a few shops in the area, and I've always had great experiences with their work.

$60 for mid-muffler delete, and quoted $40 to change out the resonator (that I provide).

I've had flowmasters on several Mustangs and an S10 Blazer, and always changed out cans on my motorcycles. I'm a huge fan of actually hearing an exhaust note, and I love the unique sound that different engines create with the correct setup.

Thanks to everyone for their awesome info and sound clips!

Anyone in the Central NJ or Philly area, feel free to drop me a PM and I'd be happy to let you hear the final product once installed.

Stainless Resonator

Is there a stainless steel resonator that would give results close to the Dynomax? I really want to do something about driving a great looking car that sounds like a Hybrid Where I live Honda's are running ALL AVER with coffee can pipes that make alot of noise. NOT that I want the coffee can sound.

Looking for a quality SS resonator that will sound close to the Dynomax, that way I can delete the mid muff, replace with SS pipe and SS resonator..

I did search around with some results. But pictures don't make sound.
Thanks for any good suggestions, I NEED to hear something

SS will be more expensive, but if you're in areas that get a lot of snow it may be worth it in the long run.

OK, I apologize for this, but it was aluminized steel from meineke, which is still very resistant to corrosion.

first of all, thanks to everyone
i had been discovering and considering about this mod for almost 3 or 4 months

but as a 18 years old teenager..i don't know much about cars, and i don't got much money to spend

my question is,
would anyone recommend "Canadian Tire" to do the mid-muffler removal? or is that a bad place to do....? thanks so much

Hi Guys,

I'm also anxious to get this mod done. I want to try and get it done next weekend. My questions are what is the difference (pros/cons) for the Dynomax or Magnaflow resonators. This is probably a stupid ? but since the new resonator is shorter, do I just have them replace add SS straight pipe? Also removing the mid muffler, SS straight pipe as well? I'm a bit tired after reading 39 pages, lol!

From what I read in this thread, some folks had some rattling with the Magnaflow. It wasn't pinpointed on the resonator, but the installations seemed to be done well. Others thought the Magnaflow sounded raspy.

Most seemed to like the Dyanmax better, but did note it was a bit louder than the Magnaflow (which in turn was a bit louder than the stock resonator).

It's not actually SS pipe. It's (aww, crap, what's the right word???) Aluminized?, Anodized? Coated Aluminum? Not steel, something else. Can't find it, but its somewhere in the previous 39 pages. Sorry.

Here is a link to the Dynamax ($39):

http://www.sportcompactonly.com/Dyno...60_p-95085.htm

BTW - if doing both at once (Resonator and Mid-Muffler delete) most are suggesting cutting out 1 big piece (old resonator and mid muffler) and installing the new resonator followed by a single pipe all the way back to the remaining exhaust pipe. Bent to fit of course.

I have been trying to find a small stainless steel resonator that will do about the same job as the Dynomax. I ordered the Dynomax, but the ends were the wrong size. And all 4 places I went, they didn't like the idea of cutting up the new exhaust to put in a resonator that will rust out in a year. I returned the Dynomax. I really want to do a mod like this because the new TL-S sounds like a Hybrid.

Anybody know a SS resonator thats small.

I just had this done this morning...LOVE the way it sounds! they cut from the end of the mid-muffler to the end of the stock resonator. Had the dynomax resonator welded in along with a straight pipe. They recommended doing this. So now i have one big piece with the stock resonator and mid-muffler sitting around in case i want to swap back.

Thats the best way IMO. I wish I could find a SS resonator that does the same job as the Dynomax. How long would the cheap Dynomax last in SALTY Chicago winters, don't want to change every year or so???
