Warning...For those of you who have the P.I.E. X3...

Hey guys. I have a PIE X3 installation on my car with "always on" power going to it at all times. I love the interface and my Sirius sounds fantastic running thru it...
HOWEVER....
I had to have my battery checked and when the battery was disconnected and reconnected it apparently killed the left channel. I am not sure why but just a heads up who anyone who has a setup similar to mine. I would imagine its the constant power source that screwed it up.....Pisses me off because now I have to use the FM modulator which doesnt even compare.
Just a heads up guys. Its probably going to cost me a couple hundred to fix this between new parts and labor.

Not sure what you mean...it was installed..and it worked. I didnt do the install myself but it worked flawlessly for 3 years. So be more specifc by correct. What could have been installed wrong ?
And how many people take out their battery regularly ?

I suggest you check your connections to make sure nothing has lodged loose. If i'm not mistaken, the PIE x3 connects via the radio for power and not another source, so the power should be clean and not cause issues.

Try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery again?

Also, as AJ said, check your connections - better yet, disconnect and reconnect all connections. I've read somewhere that this has actually worked for a member.

Correct! There is something wrong with your setup OP. The PIE X3 is just a fancy audio spliter and nothing more.

correct which would keep the unit on at all times. Is your led lit when you turn off your car. If so than that is the problem draining your battery.

Well which wire did they tap for the 12v power source? They must've tapped an always on power source for that to happen.

I have no clue. I paid circuit city to install it...it worked...for years so I have never had a reason to get into the details of it as far as where its connected to. So if the PIE X3 is nothing more than an elaborate splitter...what could be wrong with my setup ? I dont want to take it to the dealer and pay them 50 dollars to look at and be like..."we dont know whats wrong"
And there is no way anything got knocked loose...it was working fine...battery cable was taken off battery to clean..hooked it back up, left channel now barely works. I did the same thing over just out of curiosity..and now whatever sound was coming out of the right channel is now all staticky. All other car outputs work as normal...both channels...clear sound. Any ideas anyone ?

Have you even tried any of these things?

My X3 is working flawless. Something SERIOUS would have to kill one of the channels like that. Why was it hooked up as "always on" anyways. Most have of us have it turn on with ignition.

To add to what rockyfeller said above, most members have their PIE X3 connected to Fuse 32 (ACC) in the fuse box on the driver's side. I had mine connected with a mini add-a-circuit (Autozone). This allows the unit to have power only when necessary. Your installation was definitely wrong to begin with. Mine was working fine until I removed it to upgrade to the PXAMG.

I did try those things as I put in a post earlier. As far as connecting/disconnecting the X3 itself to check connections...i did not do that because its buried in my dash. Ive been using the FM transmitter until I can either take it apart myself or take it to a shop and have them do it...
Time vs money.....
But I really again think nothing could have come loose inside the dash because the x3 was working right when I parked my car. I disconnected the battery to clean the cables...hooked it back up and now it doesnt work. (one channel...almost nothing, the other channel staticky)...CD and am/fm come thru clear on all channels. I was going to have a honda dealer take a look at it but wasnt sure if they are familiar with taking apart the Acura dash so I elected against it.

Not true. From Logjam the makers of the product...

"The X-3 module has a lot of electronics in it that controls which audio is
passed through to the factory radio, plus electronics that feeds back
information to the factory radio allowing the radio to stay in CD mode when
the CD audio is interrupted. So it is not just a pass-through device."

Furthermore their tech support told me that this happens in the X3 sometimes...their could be a few hundred cars it doesnt happen with and one that it does. I guess I just am one of the unlucky ones.
The installs not wrong...its an issue that occurs but if you are out of warranty you are SOL.
