i'll give 50$... on the ridgeline forums there is a guy that claims to have a/c controls and trip computer enabled on the new navi... but hes not willing to give it out... i'm sure if he really was able to enable those features he could also disable the nag screen.

What I'd like to know is how / where the information is stored on the CD to determine which model Nav / vehicle you have.

The 3.x software used filenames which was pretty easy to swap around by simply changing file names on a CD burn... with the 4.x software, filenames do not determine the vehicle and it seems that this is stored somewhere on the DVD. Loading different vehicle profiles may be an easy way to enable features...

Consolidated 07 Splash Screen Hack Instructions

All from the work of others earlier in the thread - just consolidated a little bit for easier use.

This is for the v4.55A navigation disk. I assume you know some basics about using the command prompt. I can try to write a step by step version with pictures if someone really needs it.

What you will need:

V4.55A navi DVD

1 blank CD

Bysin (program from first post)

8to16 (program taken from http://www.guicide.com/cars/2006civic/nav/hacks/)

A 480x234 picture saved in 256 bmp

Go into your C: and create two folders: ToBurn and NaviHack. Search through your Navi DVD for the following files(make sure you are copying the one off of the DVD):

07Touch.bin

07Touch2.bin

A0000_00.MNG

DCA0.reg

PRG_INFO.MNG

UPDATE_APL

Copy it into the ToBurn folder. Next also copy the “07Touch2.bin” file into the NaviHack folder. From the Bysin program, copy "Bysin.exe" and "CECompressv4.dll" file both under "release" into the NaviHack folder. Then go to the 8to16 program and copy the “8to16.exe" file into the NaviHack folder too.

Take the picture you want to use, rename it as “replace” (should already be in bmp format) and copy it into the NaviHack folder. Go ahead and open your command prompt (Start -> run ->type “cmd”) and get into the NaviHack folder (typing “cd\NaviHack” should work). Now type in these lines one by one. It should take maybe 1 minute between each command. Be patient.

-> 8to16 replace.bmp Opening1.bmp

-> bysin 07Touch2.bin update Opening1.bmp Opening1.bmp

Now to check if the image in the bin file is replaced, type the following:

-> bysin 07Touch2.bin extract Opening1.bmp

A folder named 07Touch2 inside the NaviHack folder should appear. Drag the picture inside (should be named Opening1.bmp) the 07Touch2 folder into IE and it should be the picture you want to use. If that’s right, copy the 07Touch2.bin file from NaviHack into the ToBurn folder to replace the old 07Touch2.bin file.

Now burn all the files (6 files total) onto a CD. Just a regular CD will work. Now go ahead and follow the steps to load it onto your navi from the first post. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Working with the Image

I noticed most images in this thread have not followed this routine, thats why the ACURA logo, the actors faces and everything else will look distorted in the ACURA, mainly I guess because the pixels in the ACURA navi are not perfect squares. People start to look taller in the car than on the screen! The trick is to work on a 480x270 file and resize to 480x234 to put it in the BIN.

Please correct me if I am wrong anywhere! Thanks and good luck!

(By the way, I changed my screen yesterday and now the voice command does not work while I am on the BT phone talking.)

One more thing, do all your work, specially the resizing in the RGB format. Once your image is 100% ready, resized to 480x234, THEN index it to limited colors.

DONT index then resize.
Resize then index.

If you need to modify the image, open the 480x270 RGB files, and continue working. When done, resize, index and upload in the BIN.

i thaught this wasthe coolest thing untill i hooked up doms unit and a PIE X3 with an AV pod, I rarely look at my navi anymore i use the screen for ipod video anywhere i go and im addicted to it, i cant sit in traffic in another car :-)

the ok button hack is cool because i dont have to press anything to ge thte nav working, and the trip computer is usefull aswell athough it dosent coincide with the information in the trip computer in the gas guage area.

Stop talking about somebody being paid to change anything on the Navi software or this thing is going to get locked down! That is illegal guys! This has already been discussed time and time again on here already.

I am sure this has been discussed but has anyone clicked the AngryDad link lately?

"Hmm.......
It appears that you clicked the link on acurazine forums.
There is a number of respectable Honda/Acura forums out there, so why acura$ine? I do not say that acurazine id bad, it is actually good. Very good ... at siphoning money using you as a tool. Every time you read a message there, you're working for them by viewing ads (and sometimes clicking on them). Every time you post a message, you work even harder, because when other people read your message, every one is viewing ads, too. If that is not enough, try to sell something on the list without paying to acura$zine moderators. After receiving a couple of nastygrams from them you will find yourself in a read-only user bucket.

So, you might want to revise the list of your favorite message boards. I would recommend scratching out everything that begins with "acura" and ends with "zine". Thank you. "

I just did the trip computer and Ok button hack and i can't believe how simple it is. I know it's simple because many of you out there volunteered tirelessly to make this happen and i want to say thank you for making TL better than it already is. Thanks again and good job!

8to16 replace.bmp Opening1.bmp

it says

Input file Opening1.bmp is not exactly 113,398 bytes
palette starts at 00000036
data starts at 000000436
?Error 0 reading data from `replace.bmp`. Read 111990 bytes

the picture is the correct size and its also formatted to 256 bit and is also indexed at 173 colors.

Mine is disk 3.4. Did you follow the instruction for 3.6? What kind of errors did you get?

Try one of the images others have posted to make sure it does wok for you, if it does, then there's something wrong with your image.

I don't own a TSX so i can't say for sure but you should follow the instruction for 4.x version hack. Also, have you checked the TSX section of this forum to see if they have a different set of instruction to hack it?

So let me get this straight, the only person that got it working was the person that wrote up the hack for 4.x for TSX?

Anyone know the color codes to make the navi on a 2004 TL look similar to the navi on the 2007? I want my yellowish colored map be more like the off-white color...
Thanks!

this is how i changed the pic on the 4.55, all you have to do is change the two bins in the dirrections from 06AVN.bin 6AVN2.bin to 07touch.bin and 07touch2.bin. the dirrections are great and he shows pics of the steps. I had to play with the pic for a bit to get it to fit just right but it works once you get it just the right size.

ok...it took me forever to get this done...about 2 weeks...lol..if you follow all of the steps from the 06 civic it should work. however...when I went to the 8to16 program part of the deal, i could not ever get it to do right, so it took alot of reading and peicing together, but this is where you should have your problems...when you get your pic in the editing program (i used photoshop cs2) do what you need to do to it, resize it, and index it, the select all, copy and open a new window in MS paint, then paste it, then save it as 256 bmp....that is the ONLY way it would work for me....im decently smart with computers, but like i said ive been working on this for like 2 weeks... the instructions are on post 250, but do it from the civic post and use your 07touch2.bin and your 07touch.bin files....here is the link....

If you don't know what a command prompt is please do not try to do the following yourself. Talk to your kids or your neighbor's kids and see if they can help you!

Another thing, I am not responsible if you blow your navigation system up yourself. By using this article you take full responsibility of your own action.

Tools that you might need

DumpNavi - DumpNAVI by bysin, it extracts and replaces files within BIN file.
Improved DumpNavi - Works with 4.xx NAVI software.
CEBin - CEBin, more feature and less limitation, but harder to use.
Navi-GUI - GUI front end for the DumpNAVI program.
TLPatch401a.com - AngryDad's trip computer patch.
HMIManager.zip - Kenny's modified trip computer for v3.40c (password: kennyc)
NaviOK401a.com - AD's OK button patch for Navi 3.50
navi.zip - Kenny's modified OK executable for Navi 3.40c (password: kennyc)

How do I change my wallpaper??

Things that you need
Your favorite photo editing software - I like photoshop
DumpNAVI program
A picture you like
Your navigation DVD.

Instruction
1. Create your wallpaper. Not artistic? Too lazy? Try here
2. Resize/crop the wallpaper down to 380x234 with 256 colors
3. Resize the wallpaper to 480x234 so it will "stretch" the wallpaper horizontally.
4. Save it as "Back.bmp" - make sure your photo editing software converts the picture from RGB to Indexed (img->mode->indexed color in photoshop) and enter 173 in the colors field. Also make sure it is saved as 8-bit bitmap. So your wallpaper will be the same size as the original. (113,068 bytes, 114688 bytes on disk) Make sure your wallpaper is the same size or smaller than those numbers, or else it will not work!
5. Copy 2 files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
6. Copy DumpNAVI.exe, your wallpaper, and BNHH401A.BIN into the same folder.
7. Go to a command prompt by start-> run, and type in "cmd" and press enter.
8. Say I put all three files in the "navi" folder on the c drive, I will type "c:" (without the prompt) and press enter. Then type in "cd navi" and press enter.
9. Now you should see "C:\NAVI>" Now type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update Back.bmp" and press enter. The pc will prompt you when it's done.
10. The new wallpaper is now in the bin file.

If you want to add AngryDad's trip computer please go to the next section, if wallpaper is all you want find the section named "How to load my custom bin back into the car?"

How do I load AngryDad's trip computer mod??

Things that you need
Your navigation DVD
DumpNavi Program
AngryDad's trip computer patch (for v3.50)
or
Kennyc's modified version (for v3.40c)

Instruction
For version 3.50:
1. Download AngryDad's trip computer patch.
2. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and the AD's TC patch.
3. Go to a command prompt and change into that directory.
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN extract" This will extract everything within that BIN file into a folder named BNHH401A
5. Find a file named HMIManager.exe in that folder and copy it out to the same folder as AD's TC patch.
6. Run the patch.
7. After patching, type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update HMIManager.exe" This will load your patched trip manager back into the bin.

For version 3.40c:
I trimmed the HMIManager.exe for v3.50 so it will fit in the v3.40c's bin.
1. Download my navi.zip from the link above
2. Extract the HMIManager.exe into the same directory as your dumpnavi program (password: kennyc)
3. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and HMIManager.exe
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update HMIManager.exe" This will load the modified v3.50 trip computer into v3.40c Bin.

A note from AngryDad:
When you do the trip computer patch, you might as well benefit from replacing diag.exe from the 401a bin with diag.exe from the 404a bin. It enables trip computer screen in diag menu (where you can log data to the card if interested). Holding "Menu" for 5 sec on that screen, gets you to "Trip Computer calibration" menu.

How do I load AngryDad's OK button crack??*

Things that you need
Your navigation DVD
DumpNavi Program
AD's OK button patch (for v3.50)
or
Kennyc's modified OK button executable (for v3.40c)
*See updated notes below

Instruction
For version 3.50:
1. Download AngryDad's OK button patch.
2. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and the ok patch.
3. Go to a command prompt and change into that directory.
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN extract" This will extract everything within that BIN file into a folder named BNHH401A
5. Find a file named navi.exe in that folder and copy it out to the same folder as AD's OK patch.
6. Run the patch.
7. After patching, type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update navi.exe" This will load your patched navi.exe into the bin.

For version 3.40c:
As with the trip computer, I trimmed the navi.exe for v3.50 so it will fit in the v3.40c's bin.
1. Download my ok button excutable from the link above
2. Extract the navi.exe into the same directory as your dumpnavi program (password: kennyc)
3. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and navi.exe.
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update navi.exe" This will load the modified v3.50 navi.exe into v3.40c Bin.

How to load my custom bin back into the car?
1. Burn your custom bin (BNHH401a.BIN) and the loader (BN2HHMLD.BIN) onto a blank CD.
2. Go to your car.
3. Turn your car's ignition to ACC
4. Open the trunk and pop out the NAVI disk (if it's in there)
5. Insert your newly burned CD.
6. Go back to the driver seat, the display will show some dvd read error, now press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu.
7. Wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen
8. Press "LOAD DISC" to load your custom bin into the navigation.
9. Wait until it's completely done and it will then display another error message about can't read the navi dvd, now take out your bin CD and insert your Navigation disc and you are done!

Troubleshooting and Tips
I found the navigation system is pretty tolerant of mistakes. If you screw something up (and you probably will) All you need to do is reinsert your original navi dvd back into the drive, press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for 5 seconds and it will take you to the diagnostic menu EVEN if your navigation system is in a loop! Once you're in the diagnostic menu just go into "version" and press "load disc" and everything will be back to factory state.

This will not erase your phone pairing, phone books, nor presets.

One last tip,

Make sure you keep a backup copy of your custom bin file. That file contains your wall paper, trip computer and the ok button mod. If you lose it you would need to redo everything again.

Thanks goes out to everyone, especially to AngryDad and datmrman for their hardwork and write ups. You guys are what make this board better than "the other board"

That thread is now locked. For future reference, the thread is here: Hack Your Navi Summarized! (Change pics and remove nag screen)

I am guessing you've bought a TL from someone that has changed the wallpaper. Changing it back to the original wallpaper all you have to do is refer to the first post of this thread and follow a few steps:

1. Make sure you have your orignal Navi disc in your DVD rom in your trunk.
2. Turn on your car so that Navi loads, then press and hold "GUIDE"+"MENU"+ and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu.
3. Wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen
4. Press "LOAD DISC" to load your navigation disk. Wait until it's completely done and you should have your origianl wallpaper back

or

If the above doesn't work, disconnect the power to your DVD rom in your trunk and wait a few seconds then connect the power back and turn on your car, you should also have your original wallpaper back. (This method will require entering your Navi security code that came with the owner's manual once you start your car)

If you want to change the wallpaper to something different, make sure you read the first post of this thread on the section regarding changing wallpaper.

I just spent the last four hours of my life wasting my time trying to get the wallparer, trip and ok screen hack. I have a Mac and went to the garage and set up my old PC to do this hack. I tried to do the wallpaper first. I just copied and saved some of the wallpapers that others have used. Copied the 2 BIN files, the wallpaper and dump navi to a folder and went to the cmd line. That's where I run into problems... when I type in dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update Back.bmp it either says it can't "stat" something or it says "the file needs to be smaller than the original" how is this possible if I am using other's offerings. Don't even get me started on the TC or nag screen. I can't even get the wallpaper done. Can't anyone help me? I'm sure someone out there couldn't figure this out w/o some help. If you can call me up and spend a few min. walking m,e through the steps to get this accomplished, I'll paypal you moneyas we speak. Anyone interested????
