This is for the v4.55A navigation disk. I assume you know some basics about using the command prompt. I can try to write a step by step version with pictures if someone really needs it.
What you will need:
V4.55A navi DVD
1 blank CD
Bysin (program from first post)
8to16 (program taken from http://www.guicide.com/cars/2006civic/nav/hacks/)
A 480x234 picture saved in 256 bmp

Go into your C: and create two folders: ToBurn and NaviHack. Search through your Navi DVD for the following files(make sure you are copying the one off of the DVD):
07Touch.bin
07Touch2.bin
A0000_00.MNG
DCA0.reg
PRG_INFO.MNG
UPDATE_APL

Copy it into the ToBurn folder. Next also copy the “07Touch2.bin” file into the NaviHack folder. From the Bysin program, copy "Bysin.exe" and "CECompressv4.dll" file both under "release" into the NaviHack folder. Then go to the 8to16 program and copy the “8to16.exe" file into the NaviHack folder too.
Take the picture you want to use, rename it as “replace” (should already be in bmp format) and copy it into the NaviHack folder. Go ahead and open your command prompt (Start -> run ->type “cmd”) and get into the NaviHack folder (typing “cd\NaviHack” should work). Now type in these lines one by one. It should take maybe 1 minute between each command. Be patient.
-> 8to16 replace.bmp Opening1.bmp
-> bysin 07Touch2.bin update Opening1.bmp Opening1.bmp
Now to check if the image in the bin file is replaced, type the following:
-> bysin 07Touch2.bin extract Opening1.bmp
A folder named 07Touch2 inside the NaviHack folder should appear. Drag the picture inside (should be named Opening1.bmp) the 07Touch2 folder into IE and it should be the picture you want to use. If that’s right, copy the 07Touch2.bin file from NaviHack into the ToBurn folder to replace the old 07Touch2.bin file.
Now burn all the files (6 files total) onto a CD. Just a regular CD will work. Now go ahead and follow the steps to load it onto your navi from the first post. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

The 6 files should be located in the ToBurn folder. If i'm not allowed to link the programs, my apologies. Just thought it would be easier to get the programs.

Does anyone know anything about the "tire calibration" submenu in the diagnostic mode? I have an 06 with TPMS and wanted to somehow deactivate the system because I have A-Spec rims without sensors installed and always get the damn warnings. I plan to install sensors when my tires wear out. (It'll be another year or so.) Just need a temporary solution. Also I want to reactivate the system every winter when I put the stock tires back on.

So no reason to believe that my 4.56a disk has been hacked yet Do the same things work from the 4.55a to the 4.56a versions as far as the boot images go?

I'm pretty sure it will work. Did you try to see of your navi DVD has those two files?

So I pulled the disk... Those files are on there... I'll give it a whirl once I find a DL disk to burn it all back on to. Question though.... If I do manage to get it done, how hard is it to set the car back to factory defaults? Just pull the battery and put the original disk back in once you turn the key back on to ACC? Thnx!!

Ahhh...gorgeous! I got it to work using the 4.55 instructions (07Touch2.bin file)! Now....has ANYONE found a way around the rather annoying OK Button screen? It's almost becoming a reflex to hit that area of the screen as soon as I start to drive away...

Farside, don't think a DL was required. Just a normal CD. If you want to set it back to factory setting, you don't need to unplug the battery. Just go into the boot menu with the navi dvd on and press load. Then your all set.
No luck with the "ok" button yet.

Awesome! Worked Great on my 2007 TL-S.

I made 5 or 6 "ready to load" disks with several of the images others created. Now I can just pop 'em in from time-to-time to have a new splash screen. Thanks.

Thanks BBoz for your post #250 and Porkipine for your post #437 which simplified things greatly.

WOOHOO!! My 1st Mod.

I will now anxiously (but patiently) await a hack for the Nag Screen, Trip Computer and/or On-Screen Climate Control.

Trip Computer and AC patch

I ran into a problem when loading the DVD with the modified BIN file. It appears to load for a second or two and then says "please check your disk". It never gets to where it asks for the Navi disk. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is getting hung up at that point?

So I did the upload of my bin file with the new back.bmp image and the hmimanager.exe file but when I start up the navi it now shows the same background except the Honda logo instead of the Acura logo!!! And NO that is not the back file I wanted to use! I Used the CDBin file to update everything and I have version 3.60g. Does anyone have any idea how that happened to the wallpaper?

If you don't know what a command prompt is please do not try to do the following yourself. Talk to your kids or your neighbor's kids and see if they can help you!

Another thing, I am not responsible if you blow your navigation system up yourself. By using this article you take full responsibility of your own action.

Tools that you might need

DumpNavi - DumpNAVI by bysin, it extracts and replaces files within BIN file.
Improved DumpNavi - Works with 4.xx NAVI software.
CEBin - CEBin, more feature and less limitation, but harder to use.
Navi-GUI - GUI front end for the DumpNAVI program.
TLPatch401a.com - AngryDad's trip computer patch.
HMIManager.zip - Kenny's modified trip computer for v3.40c (password: kennyc)
NaviOK401a.com - AD's OK button patch for Navi 3.50
navi.zip - Kenny's modified OK executable for Navi 3.40c (password: kennyc)

How do I change my wallpaper??

Things that you need
Your favorite photo editing software - I like photoshop
DumpNAVI program
A picture you like
Your navigation DVD.

Instruction
1. Create your wallpaper. Not artistic? Too lazy? Try here
2. Resize/crop the wallpaper down to 380x234 with 256 colors
3. Resize the wallpaper to 480x234 so it will "stretch" the wallpaper horizontally.
4. Save it as "Back.bmp" - make sure your photo editing software converts the picture from RGB to Indexed (img->mode->indexed color in photoshop) and enter 173 in the colors field. Also make sure it is saved as 8-bit bitmap. So your wallpaper will be the same size as the original. (113,068 bytes, 114688 bytes on disk) Make sure your wallpaper is the same size or smaller than those numbers, or else it will not work!
5. Copy 2 files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
6. Copy DumpNAVI.exe, your wallpaper, and BNHH401A.BIN into the same folder.
7. Go to a command prompt by start-> run, and type in "cmd" and press enter.
8. Say I put all three files in the "navi" folder on the c drive, I will type "c:" (without the prompt) and press enter. Then type in "cd navi" and press enter.
9. Now you should see "C:\NAVI>" Now type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update Back.bmp" and press enter. The pc will prompt you when it's done.
10. The new wallpaper is now in the bin file.

If you want to add AngryDad's trip computer please go to the next section, if wallpaper is all you want find the section named "How to load my custom bin back into the car?"

How do I load AngryDad's trip computer mod??

Things that you need
Your navigation DVD
DumpNavi Program
AngryDad's trip computer patch (for v3.50)
or
Kennyc's modified version (for v3.40c)

Instruction
For version 3.50:
1. Download AngryDad's trip computer patch.
2. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and the AD's TC patch.
3. Go to a command prompt and change into that directory.
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN extract" This will extract everything within that BIN file into a folder named BNHH401A
5. Find a file named HMIManager.exe in that folder and copy it out to the same folder as AD's TC patch.
6. Run the patch.
7. After patching, type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update HMIManager.exe" This will load your patched trip manager back into the bin.

For version 3.40c:
I trimmed the HMIManager.exe for v3.50 so it will fit in the v3.40c's bin.
1. Download my navi.zip from the link above
2. Extract the HMIManager.exe into the same directory as your dumpnavi program (password: kennyc)
3. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and HMIManager.exe
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update HMIManager.exe" This will load the modified v3.50 trip computer into v3.40c Bin.

A note from AngryDad:
When you do the trip computer patch, you might as well benefit from replacing diag.exe from the 401a bin with diag.exe from the 404a bin. It enables trip computer screen in diag menu (where you can log data to the card if interested). Holding "Menu" for 5 sec on that screen, gets you to "Trip Computer calibration" menu.

How do I load AngryDad's OK button crack??*

Things that you need
Your navigation DVD
DumpNavi Program
AD's OK button patch (for v3.50)
or
Kennyc's modified OK button executable (for v3.40c)

Instruction
For version 3.50:
1. Download AngryDad's OK button patch.
2. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and the ok patch.
3. Go to a command prompt and change into that directory.
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN extract" This will extract everything within that BIN file into a folder named BNHH401A
5. Find a file named navi.exe in that folder and copy it out to the same folder as AD's OK patch.
6. Run the patch.
7. After patching, type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update navi.exe" This will load your patched navi.exe into the bin.

For version 3.40c:
As with the trip computer, I trimmed the navi.exe for v3.50 so it will fit in the v3.40c's bin.
1. Download my ok button excutable from the link above
2. Extract the navi.exe into the same directory as your dumpnavi program (password: kennyc)
3. Copy two files off your orange navigation disk. (IMPORTANT!!! if you did the wallpaper and/or the trip computer already. You want to use your modified BNHH401A.BIN instead of the one copied off the navigation dvd)
BNHH401A.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
and put them in the same directory as the dumpnavi and navi.exe.
4. Type "dumpnavi BNHH401A.BIN update navi.exe" This will load the modified v3.50 navi.exe into v3.40c Bin.

How to load my custom bin back into the car?
1. Burn your custom bin (BNHH401a.BIN) and the loader (BN2HHMLD.BIN) onto a blank CD.
2. Go to your car.
3. Turn your car's ignition to ACC
4. Open the trunk and pop out the NAVI disk (if it's in there)
5. Insert your newly burned CD.
6. Go back to the driver seat, the display will show some dvd read error, now press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu.
7. Wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen
8. Press "LOAD DISC" to load your custom bin into the navigation.
9. Wait until it's completely done and it will then display another error message about can't read the navi dvd, now take out your bin CD and insert your Navigation disc and you are done!

Troubleshooting and Tips
I found the navigation system is pretty tolerant of mistakes. If you screw something up (and you probably will) All you need to do is reinsert your original navi dvd back into the drive, press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for 5 seconds and it will take you to the diagnostic menu EVEN if your navigation system is in a loop! Once you're in the diagnostic menu just go into "version" and press "load disc" and everything will be back to factory state.

This will not erase your phone pairing, phone books, nor presets.

One last tip,

Make sure you keep a backup copy of your custom bin file. That file contains your wall paper, trip computer and the ok button mod. If you lose it you would need to redo everything again.

Thanks goes out to everyone, especially to AngryDad and datmrman for their hardwork and write ups. You guys are what make this board better than "the other board"

Great job summarizing everything kennyc! I guess it is time for my summarized hack thread to retire.

That thread is now locked. For future reference, the thread is here: Hack Your Navi Summarized! (Change pics and remove nag screen)

Got info on how to hack the Startup Screen for 2007 TL's. Worked on mine w/White Disk v4.55.

It's basically the same as a hack for the 2006 Civic. Guy named Guicide has some instructions online here: http://www.guicide.com/cars/2006civic/nav/hacks/ . Instead of using his 06AVN2.bin file, you use the 07Touch2.bin file from the TL v4.55 DVD. All the other instructions are pretty much the same. (They are very detailed, so even a computer novice should be able to follow without a problem.)

Pay special attention to the file size. Has to be 480 by 234 pixels and 256 colors BMP and you need to use his 8to16 program on it. Some of the Graphics in the TL thread are a different size. (off by a few pixels). I used the Lo/Jack graphic, increased the size using Paint and saved it and used it, no problem.

You do have to use a DVD (dual layer) to burn it correctly (UDF). I used DVD-R, not sure if an RW will work (do they even make Dual Layer RW disks?). Heard reports no for the 06, but haven't tested it on the 07 yet.

The Load instructions are off by just a little. You shouldn't get the "error" screen that he got for the Civic, but the rest of the procedures are the same to bring up the diagnostics menu and download the new DVD info. Once you boot and hit ok, do the keypresses and download like he shows.

Now... Working on the OK screen text and elimination of the OK button are our next challenges.
I'm willing to pay someone to crack the nag at this point... God I hate that thing

+1 here. Maybe if a bunch of v4.55+ owners chip in, we can come up with an attractive sum for an industrious chap to hack it.

I'll throw in ten bucks...
There's gotta be at least 50 of us that would pay ten bucks for this crack.
500 bills ought to entice someone to crack it...
