Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Project "Free DVD-A"
Thanks for the quick reply Adobeman. And thanks for the great program.
The part I changed is in the debug.script on the song conversion lines using besweet. there is a parameter "-2ch", and I assumed that was converting it to 2 channel wave, so I changed them to "-1ch". That part appeared to work, but then the dvda-author.exe line throws an error saying iti can't open the music files. Hmmm.
My files are not 44.1, so I will convert them to 44.1/1 channel and see if that works. Thanks.

I put in a bunch of 1 channel mp3's, but the program converted them to 2 channel wave. Yes, I am sure the disk plays fine, but I want it to be one channel to get more on the dvd. Any ideas for getting this to work?

If you can convert to a 1ch 44.1/16 wav file first it should work. Not sure what the best tool to do that with might be. Perhaps Audiacity?
What a fine program. The program works but I am unable to get the disc to read in my TL. The disc will read in any DVD player I try or PC DVD but not in the TL. I am using DVD+R media and I am only using items to group 1. Maybe a media issue?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I acquired about 25 DVD+R discs the other day, and I decided to try to burn one earlier today to see if it would work. It appears to work just fine for me, although I haven't listened to the entire disc yet...and it's a disc I burned with my wife's music for her to have while she's driving when I'm out of town or whatever so there's a pretty good chance that I will never hear the entire contents of the disc. The few tracks I tested played just fine, though.
Well reading back through the threads (which I should have done first) I saw some post about Verbatim 16X DVD-R so I ordered some to try. I found a DVD-RW disc that came with my NEC 3540A DVDRW drive I am going to test. I am pretty sure it is a media issue as I got the same results with my Plextor 750A. I am going to test with the new media as soon as it comes in the mail.
Adobeman, thanks for the great, FREE software. I am now practically overwhelmed by musical options in my TL. Burned both single Group and multiple Group discs using Memorex 4xDVD-R, Nero Burning ROM 6 and a Plextor PX-708A DVD burner. All of them play flawlessly. My first attempt was with a DVD-RW disc....not so good. Fortunately I am a quick learner.

Will this tool support 24/96 WAV files as input?
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-A, you can go up to 24/192 for 2 channel audio.

Burnde ISO Image not read in my Car
Hello Adobeman,
I ve followed all the steps you have mentioned and I burned the ISO image which is finally created using a DVD burning software.
When i insert the disc into my Car's player, it shows an error "Disc Format" and ejects out.
Please advise if I am missing something:
1. The final image is named as DVD1.iso (E:\Adobeman\Images Folder)
2. I created a Data Disc with only one file (DVD1.iso) which shows up with a Winrar icon.
3. The disc burning software i am using is IBM Thinkvantage Access Utility.
My car is a 2006 Acura TL with Navigation.
I am using a DVD-R disc.
Please advise.
Thanks

It worked when i used DeepBurner (option "Burn ISO Image").
(It does not work with DVD+R though)
I had to use a DVD-R disc and it worked fine.
Thanks Again.
I also want to try burning a multi channel disc .....
Please advise the best software for this ....
Thanks Acurazine and Thanks Hawhyen51

Adobeman is da man!
dude, very nice app! so brain-deadly intuitive, I now have my 20 month old son creating DVD-A ISO's!! (ok, not quite.)
my first attempt failed, but after reading through this thread my hunch is it's because of the media I'm using. what's sad is I don't even know whether it's +R or -R, but I'm betting it's +R, cuz it won't play in the 'puter or TL. I'll pick up some -R's and give it another whirl...
thanks again for the killer app!!!

Adobeman-- I am having some trouble creating playable DVD-A discs in a '07 Tl. I am downloading 24bit/96 FLAC files and converting them to .WAV files. I then used your GUI to create and .ISO image. I then used a program called Imgburn to burn the ISO to A Sony DVD-R. All the decoding and burning seemed fine but the disc would not play in the car. I did not get a disc error from the car it just got stuck in "read" mode for about 2-3 minutes.
I also tried to use DVD audio solo to make a disc of the same 24/96 flac files. I converted them to WAV and used the wav files to create and burn direct to disc. It seemed to burn fine but it too would not play in the car. Any advise you give me to help out?

Thanks - this is great
Adobeman, I used your other tools before, but I really like this GUI. Makes creating the DVD almost foolproof. Thanks to the help on this thread regarding DVD troubles I was able to resolve my burning issue. After trying some HP DVD+Rs several times, using different burn rates and with verification and having no luck
, I bought some Memorex DVD-Rs (at about 28 cents apiece). They work great, no problems. So now I am truly happy.
Again, thanks Adobeman and other for the help.

This means that WMP11 is writing its file headers (the part of the file that describes the contents) differently from everything else out there. I'll try and research it. WMP11 probably writes them in a technically acceptable but non-standard way.
For now I'd use a free tool like CDEx (the best) or AudioGrabber to do your rips. iTunes might even be OK too but I never tested with it.
Randomize tracks
First of all many thanks to Adobeman for his fantastic program. Until I found this application I wasted many an hour trying to burn DVD-A's for my Acura.
One feature that I found missing in the current application was a "randomize tracks" feature. Yes I am well aware that the TL has a Random Track function, but call me strange, I didn't want to hear the same CD over and over again. I don't drive far every day (~1 hour commute both ways), so after a week or so, I was left wondering "didn't I hear that track already?". The head unit doesn't keep track of when you've heard all the tracks, so you end up having to tell it to switch CD's.
My solution was to write a small program to take the .advgui file that Adobeman's utility produces and randomly shuffle the tracks within each Group. Then I load that file back into the GUI and burn away. So I get randomization without having to use the Random Track function.
If you would like to obtain this little program, please PM me.

It's not that big a deal since there are many other (arguably better) CD ripping tools out there.
Background...for the interested...
WMP11 writes its wav headers with "RIFF/WAVE/LIST" whereas just about all others write them as "RIFF/WAVE/fmt ". There is nothing technically wrong with the "RIFF/WAVE/LIST" it's just pretty uncommon for files ripped from CDs. As such it will not work with the program the GUI controls. dvda-author.exe returns the error "Failed to read metadata..." for the file which is just what I'd expect if it had trouble with the WMP11 headers.
Thanks Adobeman again for his software! Only trouble I had during the whole process was that initially when I tried to create the DVD-A iso, it would say something about not being able to create the structure. After a while, I found out that the file names of the wav's needed to be in english to work. Then I burned onto a Maxell DVD-R and popped it into my 2005 TL and it worked!! (at least for the random few songs i listened to).
question for adobeman, first off this program is awesome. my question is, when creating a disc is it necessary for the GUI to create an image and dvd stucture. or can it just do one or the other an i can burn it to save time? or is their a difference when burning the DVD structure files that it must be compiled in a img?
