Tint % recommendation for TL

Hey,
I am planning to tint my CBP TL, I needed some recommendations on the following points:
1. What % tint is recommended if my main objective (of tinting) is to protect the leather and the interiors? - I don't like the blacked out look and i don't want to limit night vision so i won't be going for something very dark.

2. Do the tints come in different shades (black, brown, grey)? Any particular shade that looks good on the CBP

Any pictures would helpful too!

Thanks!!

I have 20% all around. It's not too dark because the interior is already light.

I think the best look is 20%, but it's not legal in many states.

I have the camel interior and 15% tint is not enough, it looks like 25% . I have a picture in my album, just click on my name and it's on the right side.

There's a recent thread about this topic that might prove useful:

I've got a 07 CBP TL-S too and I am leaner towards 25-30% tints. Still haven't the trigger yet because I have read too many threads on the use of moleskin. Some say yah and some say nay. I am confused.

Get some good quality 35%, not to dark to hinder night visiblity and probably is the legal limit in your state. I'd check first what the limit is before you go to get the tint

Thanks guys for the replies! Definitely want to be within the legal limit for my state...so maybe 35% all around...and 20%/35% at the back..any idea if 35% legal in IL? hruiz a pic would certainly be very helpful! if it's not too much of a trouble..

IIRC, IL has one of those laws that has little or no tint on the front windows, but allows more on the back.

I have 35% in rear and 50% in front. I got ceramic tint also. In CA, front side is illegal.

IL recently passed a law allowing tint on the front windows... basically says you can use 35% or higher; nothing more than 6 inches down from the roof onto the front windshield...

I have your car model with 30% Formula One Smoke. I personally like it as I have had all shades of tint on former vehicles. This is not limo and this is not light either. This tint version is really good if you want middle of the road. I have a guy coming to fix my rip in a door panel tomorrow and I'll take some pics. Also, I have not had one scratch, if that helps (with the moleskin app).

Oh, not sure in your state but I was told by the installer that they are held accountable for the tint and mine would qualify as there is a +/- 3% variable in the law for the measurement calculation so 30 would hold up in court for Georgia law. Might be worth investigating if you are considering.

For all the fellow NJ drivers out there who have tint...what do you do when it comes time for inspection? - won't I fail with the tint? Are there local guys you can pay for inspection that do not care about tint? I was looking to do 35% everywhere but front windshield - but anything on the front side glass I think is still illegal here in the wonderful garden state - so where/what do you guys do?

There are shops that do inspection as well. The tint is visual inspection. The shop collects some money from you (between 30 - 60) and checks all that off. The ignition requires the computer. As long as you dont fail ignition you are good to go.

Just make sure you roll in the joint with your front windows down and leave with them down as well, in-case there is a pig present could cause you and the shop great headache and fine..

Considering what you want I think 35% is your fit. Its legal, and it will protect your interior. 20% would be better but its illegal and dark. Remember to instal moleskin if you dont want your tints to scratch. many threads on this. Peace.

I just got mine done today. 32% on the sides and 20% on rear and strip on the front. From the front and side, it's pretty dark (top photo). But from the back where you can see through the front windshield, it's kinda light (second photo). I like it, although my tint guy wouldn't tint the 3/4 window all the way in . But it only cost $150, so I can't complain too much. I'll get it fixed later on.

I just had mine done LLumar Air 80 all around except for windshield. It is awesome full visibility around and helps heat rejection tremendously it's like having a 15% all around. Check out the specs http://www.llumar.com/pdf/en/LLumarAutoSpecsUS.pdf.

30% is what I have and I think is perfect. Cops won't hassle either. For the OPs car I'd recommend 35% in a black tone tint.
