How dark are your tinted windows?

I'd like to tint the windows on my TL. Just can't seem to decide on how dark to go. I'm leaning towards 35% because I think 20% would be too dark at night. Especially with black interior.

Wanted to know what other people got and if possible see pics of it.

there are about 100 threads on the subject with pics- try the mods section or search,

20 means blocking 80% transmission of light thru the glass
Used on the 3 back glass it will render your auto dim inside mirror useless, but keeps UV rays and heat out of the car pretty well~
I use reflective screen when parked to boost effect of keeping heat out

I have 20 on rear 3 and tough to see out at night, have to roll down the rear windows sometimes backing out of tight space- get a better half view at least

(had 20 on doors of rx7- had to roll down front windows on left turns at night in town--to see any concrete center barriers) what a pain

had 35 on the front doors of the 01TL for 3 years and loved it, till wife got a speeding ticket and cops said it had to go- nothing allowed on front 3 in my state

the tint store will have samples, and their own cars, and customer cars, all for you to see and compare

Mine were already tinted by the dealer when I bought my car (dealers in Phoenix tend to do that since we live 18 feet from the Sun). I believe they are the Arizona legal limit of 33%. Here's a picture:

I had 20% on my old TL-S. Loved it. On my old TSX I had 35% (legal limit in FL) and that was fairly dark.

I had the same choice a few weeks ago, I really wanted 20% but I went 35% all around. The installer convinced me to go all 35% with SunTek Carbon, which is darker than most film. Im happy with the results so thats my input.

23% front 17% rear w/ quartz interior

Love it! I can see perfectly fine at night. Backing up at night is a slight pain, but nothing unmanageable.

After much research, pic searches & even seeing another Azine member's NBP TL...I went with 45% wondering if they would be too little change...hell no! They were exactly what I was looking for on a NBP TL-S. I personally didnt want darker, nor the blacked out look. I dont have pics yet, need to wash the car & install the ATLP V2 tomorrow!

I personally think 20 is about perfect. HOWEVER, be aware of what is legal in your state. Whether you choose to stay legal or not is up to you, but far too many people get illegal tint, then come back here crying about getting a fix it ticket.

I'm unsure of what mine is. It was done already when I purchased the car. I used to always get 5%, and like people have said, I would have to open the door and look back or roll the windows down to safely back up

Here is mine as it sits now:

I have 4% (what I was told for choices between 4-10%<-by my tint guy)! Love it! But knowing it is illegal, could get me in trouble someday. Had plenty of warnings and tickets with other vehicles but it's been almost 2 yrs now.

Backing up is just a quick auto drop of the windows, and then auto up. Allthough it does suck in the rain, at night!

Yeah, I don't usually have a problem with rolling down the windows, but when it is pouring rain it sucks. Hence my general statement.

20% all around for both the TLs. MD don't press for tints. VA on the other hand will give you a ticket for anything!

35%

PA doesn't allow tint, but I do most of my driving in MD (35%).
I just got my doctor to write a note for me prescribing window tint (skin cancer---the good kind they can cut out and be done with!)---5% here I come!!!

I went with 30% tint, not as dark as 20, but not as light as 30. If you do get you windows tinted, make sure you install moleskin to prevent scratches.

Depending where you live, 20% is the minimum.. 35% and higher is not worth it to me. I live in NJ so they can get ridiculous so I went with 25% which is not as dark as 20% but a lot darker than 35%.. apparently the 5% does make a difference cuz I've been very satisfied and ticket free for almost a year now. **knock on wood**

I have the tint laws in front of me for every state. As of 2009 the tint laws for P.A. are as follows

Front sides 70%
Rear sides 70%
Rear window 8%
Windshield not allowed

These laws are for cars only. suv's and vans are different.

Not quite true. I know you said he was a cop, but that is the biggest problem with the law.
The PA code says, "Sun screening and other materials prohibited." and "No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle."
It goes on to say that it does not apply to tints applied by the original manufacturer, which is why you see all of the SUVs and minivans with really dark windows.
There is a ton of confusion because of the way the law is written.
Bottom line that most cops use is--any tint that is not factory (OEM) is illegal.
It goes on to mention medical exemptions, etc.
The Vehicle Inspection Code is also somewhat confusing, but the bottom line with inspection is that they should not fail you for tinted windows alone. My tints were not the problem on my last inspection---it was my Nokya Yellow fogs! I told the guy I would bring back my Silverstar Ultras for him to install---got my stickers and 10 mins later had my Yellows back in!
Next inspection should be interesting, as I installed my J-pipe and 3rd cat delete. We shall see.

Yea, its more of the local cops that give you a problem... Front tints are not allowed in NJ but everyone has them.. I just dont understand why fronts aren't allowed when almost every other state has no problem with it...
