O2 Sensor Reading from Autozone
O2 Sensor Reading from Autozone
So my engine light was on and I went to Autozone and checked it with their scanner. I got the message code that the O2 sensor was triggering it. However, before I unplugged the machine, the engine light went off.
Did the light go off simply because I read the code, or is the car alright now? When I bring it to the dealer, will the code show again? I ask because they charge $125 if they scan and nothing is wrong.

Just wait a couple of days to see if it will come back on. Most likely it will, those kind of things don't go away by themselves. You may not even need to bring the car to the dealer for such a simple fix.

Do not go to the dealer until the light comes on
Ps. Emissions has a completely different warranty from all the other parts so it is covered under warranty

Really, it is a separate warranty?
Why wait for it to come back? What if it doesn't this week? I don't have time to just wait for the light to come back on. Can't I just tell them I brought it to autozone and it cleared after?
The $125 thing is only if they scan it and nothing is wrong. It's because people are constantly monopolizing time at a dealership. While I think $125 is a bit ridiculous, I understand where they are coming from.

Its called Diagnostic Fee and covers 1.5 hours for them to locate a problem and advise.
Since some people come in and want pro diagnosis, then their buddy is going to fix it,,, they should be paid for the time!
Emission warranty is 8/80 depending on what part, but anything in the first 4-5 years that would cause it to fail smog- a check light would be that- its covered by warranty
Azone didnt clear the codes intentionally, and they are stored in the memory unless you disconnect the battery or reset the ECU
Get to the dealer

^ my TL-S throws Engine codes ALL THE TIME in the winter... for BANK 1 TOO LEAN or BANK 2 TOO LEAN..... ive come to the conclusion that its the winter fuel mix gas stations sometimes use... it only happens in the winter.... and the light goes away in a few hours everytime... car performs 100% fine
I didn't have autozone do anything.....
I used their scanner and got the code. It's not rocket science haha. You plug in the machine, it gives a code. What I'm saying is before I unplugged the machine, the engine light went off.
I was just trying to figure out if I should still go to the dealer or if the problem is solved. I am going to go to the dealer. I just wanted to make sure they will still be able to find the code when the light is now off.

I called my local Acura dealership and they said the o2 sensor is not covered under the 8/80k emissions warranty because its a wearable item like brakes, are you guys getting different answers from your dealers?
My car has 63k and my buddy at a Honda dealership ran the code for me and he also said it should be covered under Acura warranty.

O2 sensors are considered wearable like spark plugs.
The dealer should NOT cover them at 62K.
Maybe something strange like at 22K....which could be just the end result of a larger problem.
If I were you, I'd replace the sensor and do some sort of fuel injection cleaning (there's a DIY) somewhere on this forum. If that doesn't fix it, take it back.
