Life span on the stock battery

Just curious as to what is the lifespan on a typical stock battery on the TLs?

Thanks

From what I being reading on this board. 2 yrs for alot of people. But the battery has a 4 yr warranty on the '06 models. Not sure what it says in the owners book for '05's & '04's.

these delphi batteries give out pretty quick. I asked my dealer on the 06 4 year waretey, he said that the batter is replace no charge in the first 2 years, half prorated in the next 2 and then after that the owner has to pay.

Same here.....

My suburban however has required 2 battery replacements within 5 years.. Yep, same Delco battery on the first two.. Third one I changed myself with an aftermarket due to being out of Warranty..

My dealer just replaced my 2+ year-old battery. I didn't even realize anything was wrong with it, but they tested it during my last B service and ended up replacing it and the battery cables, due to some corrosion, under warranty.

Mine lasted two years, nine months before it gave up the ghost. Whoever picks up my TL on the used car lot is gonna have a virtually new Interstate battery!

The other thing is when the battery finally decides to die, it dies quickly. As in one day the car cranks fine with normal starter speed and the next day it'll barely turn over.

Looks like I'll be putting a Die Hard in at about 24 months, just as a preventive.

4-6 years is the average service life of the battery used in the TL.

My wife's Honda Pilot has a similar Delco battery and we just passed through 4 years. My dad has a 2000 Honda Accord and it is 6 years. People getting less than 4 years may be in severe conditions, hot climates do in batteries. Friends who live in AZ tell me of 2-3 years being typical for batteries there. Up in Mid Atlantic, 4-6 years is norm esspecially for maintence-free batteries.

Two things will deteriorate a lead-acid battery, vibration and sulfation of the lead plates. The vibration will help break down the lead plates slowly over time. Anyone who every owned a Harley knows all about this. Sulfaction occurs when a film builds up on the lead plates decreasing their capacity. Not periodically charging the battery creates sulfation.

Most lead acid battery failures tend to be graceful degradiation, meaning they slowly loss their storage capacity. This gives you some advance notice, you start the car and the starter cranks slower. this is not true for all cases however, sometimes a cell short will cause the battery to fail suddenly. I owned a 89 Legend, all the batteries it used would just suddenly fail. My guess is the battery location was not optimal for vibration and heat.

Battery life

Mine lasted about 18 months. In Vegas, the heat kills batteries here pretty quick. The dealer replaced it under warranty and I have a six year warranty on the new one.

My TL dates from september 1998! I still have the original Delco battery! I am tempted to replace it before this winter.

Remembering your wedding anniversary or wife's birthday.. maybe...

Remembering the age of your battery down to the month... priceless.

Thanks guys.

Dead battery

Although my driving isn't typical....my car sits for weeks at a time without being driven, although it's in a heated garage. But, my battery lasted only 2 years before it totally lost it's ability to hold 100% charge. I've managed to put a trickle charger on the battery to keep it topped off, but typically, within a day or so, it will drop to less than 60% charge just sitting in the garage. Give it 3-4 weeks, and the battery is totally dead. OH...btw....2004 TL, 6MT, navi.
