Hi guys, I am new to the forums and I currently own a 2010 tsx. I do not have a lot of knowledge on cars so please bare with me.


My problem started about 2-3 days ago, I drove to my friend's house which was about a 20minute drive and I left my car at his house for the whole day. And when I came back in the evening I tried to start my car, but it did not start. So I had to ask the neighbor to help me jump my car. After jumping it, my car started and I just drove home. The following day it drove nornally , no problem and it was fine the next two days. But on the third day, when I got home from school and left it at home for a couple of hours it died again. So I jumped it again and it work and I left home. So this morning I had no problem starting up the car, but when I drove around for 25 minutes and stop to get something to eat (about 15 minutes) the car did not start. So I had to ask a stranger to help me start my car again to get home and when I got home I left the car there for another 4 hours and just when I was about to head to class my car did not start. I was wondering if anything is wrong with my car, the only modification I have on my car is my remote start (avital brand). I wanted to know if it is just the battery or if it is something else. I only say this because the battery indicator on the OEM battery shows the outer blue circle and the inner red circle stating that the battery is OK. I will provide more information if needed. Jordan, if you have a multi-meter, you can test the voltage of the battery.
the battery should read 12.2-4 volts when the car is off. 12.2 volts indicates its a good healthy battery.

anything less than 12.2 volts and your battery is dying.


autozone can do the same exact thing for you

<p>Might as well get your alternator checked out while you are at it. Won't hurt.</p><p>It's usually battery or alternator. Correct me if I am wrong, I was told that if my car was able to start by jumping it and if I am able to drive it for a distance without the battery draining then the problem does not relate to the alternator. Also my friend does not have a voltage meter so I can not check the battery. So I might just go to autozone/pepboys to get it checked out. Also is there any specific battery I need to get? Like a specific brand.

 

<p>That's why I mentioned to get the Alt checked out. Autozone does it all for free anyways. Get a health report since you're already there.</p><p>There's a battery thread on here somewhere. Autozone can tell you what class we are. Get something with more CCA than the OEM battery. It's so freaking weak.</p>

Before you head over to Autozone, check your battery terminals. Are they clean? Tight?

The "sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't" could also be a loose terminal or bad ground.

 

i had the exact same issue on my 2012 wagon. I changed the battery and and the problem was solved.

 

Sounds like a weak battery, especially if you just drove it, left it for 15 minutes and it wouldn't start.

Just picked up a diehard battery from sears, was unsure what was the best brand but after looking around diehard seem the best. Just installed the battery and my car running like the problem never started.

Ceb mentioned a good point. Intermittent issues like that could be as simple as a bad battery cable connection. That's basically a free check and fix. Pull/clean/reinstall the terminals and go from there.

The irony is that by jumping right to swapping the battery, you'll usually cause the terminals to scrape and clean themselves enough, plus the tightening on the new battery, to mask the loose clamp problem.

Not saying that's what happened to you OP, but for posterity, checking the connections first is a good step.

Also, in my opinion, the Die Hard batteries from Sears are a good product. They're what I usually go with when the time comes.

 

man, that must be a pain in the butt to have people jump start for you...

I have 13 TSX and there was one time that it did not started for me but for 5 min...

it seems like when I leave the car driven for a whole day, it has trouble starting...
I got the car new and have 18,000 miles now but c mon..

 

Sounds like the OP solved his problem, but as an aside, anyone with an 010 TSX (or an 010 anything) should seriously consider replacing their battery regardless. Their lifespan is just about used up.

i had battery issues when i first got my car. if i didnt drive it for a few days, it would just die. it had nothing to do with the battery. i got '13.
