Tonight I was leaving my local grocery store when the inevitable happened.

My OEM battery decided to die on me! I was only in the store ten minutes!

Granted, I should have replaced it with a trusted Interstate Battery.
(My dad was a mechanic for over 30 years, so I know what's good)

Tomorrow, I'm going to swing by the dealer for an Emergency Battery Replacement. However, I'll be grabbing an Interstate at the local Interstate Store on my way to the dealer.

I've decided on the Interstate MegaTron II 24F.
However, I'm curious if it will fit in the battery tray correctly and that the top covers will fit back properly?

I'd love the feedback!

Thankfully, roadside (AcuraCare) was there in under and hour and luckily were able to jump her. I'm just praying the car fires up in the morning so I can take it to the dealer.

When I attempted to start the car at the grocery store, you heard clicking noises, lights dimming, and the VSA and ABS message came up on the MID.

Is there anything I should be concerned about other than replacing the dud battery?

Again, I appreciate the feedback. I'm a girl so any bit of info helps!

All of that is normal. The clicking is the solenoid trying to engage the starter motor but unable to do so due to low voltage. I'm surprised that you got that. I was under the impression these days with relays that it was a go/no go proposition.

 

5 years out of a battery is not that bad, but what are the details?
Did you leave the stereo on or some other drain on the battery?
The TL will run down the battery in no time (20 min. or so) is you run stuff in "accessory" position.
But the battery may not be dead.
I still have the original battery in my 2010 TL with 95,000 km.
I can leave the car in a garage for a month when I go on vacation and it will start right up when return. I really don't think there is much difference between various brands. Do you really think Acura would source a crappy battery for their cars?

 

Oddly enough, yes. Acura batteries are known to be terrible and die prematurely.

 

Based on recent experiences, many weekly short trips such as one to the grocery store and back in less than 10 min drive time... kill all OEM batteries in TLs. Had my second OEM changed 5 years now. But, well, I have to eat LOL.

 

AC Delco supplies the Acura Batteries and they have sucked every since my 2004 TL. I've had to go through OEM batteries almost every 2 years in FL since the heat kills them.

I now put in AGM batteries (bosch is always on sale + 35% off at pepboys) so I got the $200 AGM for around $130. It lasted for around 8 years in my 760 and I'm hoping to get the same, much better than every 2 years.

 

In my experiences H/A batteries have served me and my family well. 5 years out of a battery is AWESOME. I'm happy to get 3 years. As far as how it failed; sometimes they just fail without reason (heavy load or use). Understanding car batteries can be like men attempting to understand women; good luck. Interstate batteries are GREAT but sellers are few and far between in my local.

I usually buy Walmart Everstart Maxx. 5yr warranty (3yr free replace, 2yr prorate) and they have stores everywhere; and some are open 24 hours a day. In other words, they are easy to get and easy to replace. Since I've been using them I've had one fail in warranty, in the parking lot of Disney World at 11 pm. Jumped van and drove to closest Walmart. I took it out in the parking lot, brought it in, and they gave me a free replacement. Installed it, drove to motel, and the next morning at 7am we were back at Disney World. Again with an analogy; I like my batteries like my women, not the best but low maintenance and easy.

I got the "replace battery" message showing up last week, and went shopping for an aftermarket battery.

The sales guy said to me that my battery could still be under warranty. So I called Acura and indeed it was.

The dealership gave me a new battery free of charge, and I was only 3 days away from the expiration of the 4-yr factory warranty.

 

Have an 09 Tl and the battery went tits up yesterday with out warning. Everything was fine and my wife came home from work for lunch. Parked the car in the garage and went out to go to work and dead as a door nail. The battery was less then 3 years old and was replaced under warranty. This time I went to Sears and got a Diehard and hope it works better. I have heard that heat is the killer of car batteries and it doesn't help that our TL's are electrical monsters

 

Ditto on the 3 years. I am happy with 3. That's been my experience with any battery I've had in my multiple Hondas/Acuras.

 

I really doubt there is much difference between battery brands.
I had an Integra for 13 years and I had two Acura batteries in it: the original plus one I replaces at 6 years. The second one was 7 years old when I sold the car and still going strong.
My TL is now 6 years old, 60,000 miles, and has the original battery.
Perhaps the heat in FL or Texas is an issue but we also have many days of -20C in winter and 30C in summer.
I agree that all the modern tech goodies are a heavy load on the system.

 

I just replaced my battery last week it was 5 yrs old and 60K , still good but why take a chance. IIRC the OE battery is made by Johnson Controls who now makes Interstate as well as Walmart and others . My 2010 TL takes a 24F, the F stands for flush , meaning that the vent caps are flush with the top of the case. I used a size 24 from Costco (Interstate) but the OE bracket will interfere with the vent caps so I had to install a shim on both sides . If you can get a 24F it will make things a lot easier. I paid $83 + tax, core charge is $15 ... 42 mo full replacement warranty.

 

Are you certain about the meaning of the F? Some 24F batteries I see on the internet are not flush and some 24 are flush. The Pos & Neg posts are on opposite sides between the 24 & 24F so I could NOT install a 24 in my 2012 because the cables aren't long enough.
