it looks to be in excellent condition, man!
Sell the volks, buy the car!

I think Crabs should just "borrow" said car and well, never return it. Then, he'll save $3500.
Senior Moderator
And I need to ask: Is that old-skoo car faster than an RLX or TLX? If not, don't care.

i did a little research and wanted to swap an LS1-7 into it, but it seems like a lot of work....swapping out subframes and rear end diff.

Mmm...
And yes, I'm sorta picking my nose as I'm watching a data job finish...so, don't mind me.

I would get it, as is...address any crazy rust immediately and just enjoy it as a daily driver. If he wants $3500 offer him $2500 cash money. You'll be the most talked about crab at the ball, when you pull in that thing.

So, $3500 may set him back a bit on his quest for his own place?

this car is purely a want.
im going over pros and cons of having it now...
likely, i could flip it for like a couple grand more....
buy at $3500 flip it for like $7k in current condition.
but i dont know...I know I will miss that $3500 for sure..
Senior Moderator
But, will that piss off your buddy if he finds out you flipped his car for a profit?
I would wager the answer is, heck yes.
But, if he really does not care, and you are absolutely committed to getting your money back and then some, go for it and ante up $3500 for the car...and sell it for a profit later.

some money now, more money later, no broken friendships = win!

Well, here's the thing...IF you know for sure you can get a huge markup when you sell the car later, go for it.

In this case, if selling that car nets a positive income and justn put it towards his house, I'd feel pretty good that I could help a buddy out.
Money comes and goes. I don't see this car as being a total loss of investment. $3500 is replaceable in a fairly short time. Buying a $35,000 car is a different story. Like I said, I don't see him losing money in this at $3500 if he decided to sell, so in the end it's not a big deal.
If he finds a house he really wants, along with needing that money, he can sell. At least he had fun for a little bit

Justn, if you buy it, you NEED to buy a fedora hat as well to wear while driving. So gangster.

He doesn't necessarily have to divulge how much he's selling it for though. Plus, I know if I sell stuff to a buddy at a good price, I keep in mind that he may sell it one day, for whatever reason, and he may make some coin on it.

I dunno...IMO, this is kinda an awkward situation (which is why I avoid transactions with friends). If I'm the seller, and a good friend wants it, I'd be hesitant to charge full price. So, I'll settle for less and likely give it to my good friend thinking it's going to a good home.
But, if I find out later that my friend took the car and sold it for a nice profit, it would indeed bother me. I gave up on potentially better sales prices because I was giving my buddy a break...instead, he goes and sells it for a profit when I could've done just that originally?
Yeah, dunno...again, can't say much on Justin and his friend's relationship dynamics...but, I just think it's something I would not cross. But, if it's not what I think it is (as per what I just wrote above), then go for it. Justin will earn a nice $3000 profit for a $3500 purchase initially. That's better than any savings account.

to clear your questions, yumcha.... G+ buddy/instagram buddy.
he lives here in houston and works as an automotive painter.
so, no. I've never met this guy.
Ive seen his shop tho, always cool lowrider cars.
the only troubling thing to me; I wouldnt know who or how to unload the car if i were to sell it.
and Im afraid I'll be stuck with it. likely no A/C or heater, so it would be a spring/fall car for me.
and yes tacocat, I only want it because it looks so fucking gangster

Too much work.. it seems like a good price but you'll have to find another sucker like yourself to make a profit. Trust me.

Cool cars will always be there if you look for it. IMO, I don't think you're passing up the opportunity of a lifetime here and esp. if you are unsure how to unload it afterwards.

Also.. if you've never driven a classic car before.. you might be in for a ride.
My good family friend has a track 57 belair. Beautiful car.. and wicked fast. He has several boxes full of racing and bracket racing trophies. The sound of that baby idle and burn out is intoxicating. Fucking all steel. The door is probably heavier than the J-engine.

I also looked at Autotrader.
those Deluxes look like they've been sitting waiting on a sale forever.
even the $5-7k deluxes, there's not much demand for.
thanks guys, i'll pass

You're more along those lines (custom classic with creature comforts and cool power adders / swaps). It's best to keep an eye out for a gem like that.

right, I love my creature comforts. im accustomed to our current lifestyle and wouldnt want to go backwards...even if it is a cool car.
also, the LSx swap interested me, butt having to use a genII fox body subframe front with either a ford or chevy rear diff.
seems like a lot of work.

You don't have power steering or brakes tho.. you'd have to pump 15k into that thing to make it to your liking.. maybe more. There's a guy selling a Volvo 245 turbo LS locally for $12k. Fucking thing is wicked.. now that I might consider.

so, the money wasn't a big deal to spend, the guy isn't even really a "friend" and now you're passing because the resale won't net you enough profit? I thought you were in it for the yolo gangster game though!?!?
and to be clear, that's not me calling out your character, that's me questioning your logic.

Fuck yeah.. G8 GXP > SS
The SS sounds good as fuck though.. too bad they had to fuck it up.
