'08 TL side mirrors sticking
Hi all,
my sons TL side view mirrors are sticking when pressing the button. They do move some but not well enough to use properly. He has to move them manually which is a pain for him
because he has autism and cant handle something not working properly. It seems the button is doing its job and sending power to the mirror itself but from there it sticks.
Does this fix require a whole new side mirror? Can i spray some wd40 up into the mirror compartment and UNSTICK them? any advice? Thx all.

Sounds like it just wore out from age / usage?

It all depends on your mechanical skillsets?
You can get a mirror actuator assembly and DIY or find a local independent Acura / Honda specialty shop to save $$$.
Or go to Acura and have them do it for a premium.

The below data from the service manual gives you an idea of what's involved:
Purchasing a color matching side view mirror assembly is also big $$$ not including install labor, some colors may not be available though.

Good Luck!

No, you don't have to replace the entire mirror---there is an "actuator" inside the mirror housing that can be replaced.
It's doubtful you can reach the gears that need cleaning just by spraying them, but give it a shot, eh?
How much 'adjusting of the side mirrors' is necessary?
I haven't adjusted mine in 3 years. Set and forget.
But if you want them flipping down when going into reverse, you'll need to replace the actuator(s).

Three things to note:
-The part number above replaces the original left/right parts.
-You only need to do step 5 from the service manual page above.
-Look up how to remove the mirror glass. It's a twist motion with a thin, long, cabinet flathead screwdriver. Do not pry!

This happened to mine as well. Bits of the rubber dust boots had gummed up the wipers for the position "sensing" slides. as soon as the car was turned on the driver position memory module would command the position to be adjusted but not "knowing" where it was it would shoot off in odd directions and jerk around for a moment then give up and need to be repositioned. Very annoying problem to have.
I cleaned it once or twice, but the issue always came back. Not wanting to spend any money on it at the time I pulled the one of the CAN BUS wires (purple I think) from the control module. I don't have "smart" mirrors anymore so they don't rotate down in reverse or auto adjust per driver settings, but they are still power mirrors and work fine.

It’s a shame the actuators of my Honda Odyssey won’t fit in the Acura. The van was purchased in 2010 and I’m still on the original, TL, I’m on the 3rd set.
my passenger side one takes a beating, I reverse in the garage and I have the mirror tilt down when it goes in reverse. (Same is true of the van)
