Walk Away Lock Question
Walk Away Lock Question
i cant seem to troubleshoot exactly when it happens, but sometimes when I turn off my car and close the door behind me, I hear 3 beeps instead of 1 and the car doesnt autolock when I walk away. Does anyone know when, exactly, this happens (so I can try to avoid it)? Thx.

I have had that happen a bunch of time. Sometime the RDX does not recognize the door was just shut or the hatch for the auto-lock to operate correctly. So frustrating I turned it off - lock it by the button on the door or remote, as its not reliable enough to use - especially in todays world where zero stuff is safe.
The "key" here is totally understanding how it works. If you walk away (get out of the zone) too quickly, it will NOT auto lock. I had it happen (not auto lock) more with the tailgate than the doors, as the tailgate must be closed, before you exit the zone. My current cars do not have this feature and I seriously miss it. It is not hard to push the lock button on the inside, or the ribs on the outside, but I really liked this function on my RDX and other Honda products.
Agree, important point is making sure you understand how this works, or doesn't. As always, thanks to others here, I now know. I had no idea why I was getting that multi-beeping sometimes when I walked way, not knowing that it really wasn't locking at all. That my dash cam, radar detector, and other stuff did not disappear is fortunate. Great feature, but you have to be careful.

Just an FYI for the group as I came from a 19 RDX Aspec. I now have the 22 MDX Type S Advance and when closing the tailgate as soon as you hit the close button you get the single beep and can walk away immediately as it closes. It then auto locks after it closes. This behaves differently than my RDX did. Again just an FYI for the group.
Sadly the ‘22 RDX still forces you to hang around a bit until the tailgate is fully closed or the car registers the given door latch shut. It’s somewhat annoying coming from the Accord Touring where one could walk away from it with near confidence- at least until the door lock actuators started going out on that car.
I just walk away and let the thing beep and use the remote lock w feedback when in the house to ensure it is locked.
I seem to notice a few times that the 22 RDX kick close may not need you to stay nearby (button close definitely does). Need to remember to specifically test that.
