Engine humming

Does anyone notice the engine humming when accelerating gently on the highway? This is not the usually hard acceleration engine sound/roar(which i like). It sounds like a refrigerator humming. This doesn't happen when cruise at constant speed. It just happens when accelerating a few mph, say 65 to 68 or 70 to 73 etc. I assume it's cruising at 10th gear b/c the rpm is at around 2k for 60-70ish mph. Does that mean the engine is "lugging" a little bit too much?

Watch closely to see that it hasn’t downshifted. The difference in RPMs between 10th and 9th is not much, and it’s very smooth in the scenario you are presenting. I’ve watched it closely and noticed a downshift as I’m going up a hill on cruise control, but haven’t noticed the humming per se. If you have the turbo monitor shown, you’ll see it adds a little boost as well.

I don't think it switched to 9th gear, but I can double check again. Im sure I saw the boost meter from no boost(neutral, ie not red/purple) to a tiny dot of red.

Btw, I'm driving in comfort mode if it matters.

Was it humming “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”?

If not, I would just put this on the back burner for the time being.

Yes! I've noticed the exact same thing. On the highway, mild acceleration, around 2K RPM, for me usually between 120 km/h and 130 km/h. I'm not sure if it's the engine or drive train, but there's definitely something there. Comfort mode in a Canadian Platinum Elite model.

I too have noticed a slight humming when accelerating above 70mph in Sport mode if the road has a slight grade. Did not notice it in comfort mode. It goes away if I press on the accelerator a little more, like it downshifts into lower gears from 10th. Since it does not happen on level roads, it's not an issue as such for me.

Probably just a bit of exhaust drone. Tenth is pretty tall....the revs drop pretty low, plus at those speeds you get quite a bit more load on the engine.

I've noticed the same thing. It definitely feels like the engine is "lugging" and causing the humming sound. It only happened a couple of times in 850 miles. It feels like the car should downshift to a lower gear.
