After i start my car after its been sittin for a few it runs really rough and wants to stall and also the fans will turn on.I have to turn it off and restart and its better. Also sometimes the fans stay on after i shut the car off!

 

btw 02 tl-s 47,000 miles.

 

fans can and will run with the engine off. Them running with out more info doesnt mean much. Hows the temp gauge? Normal? Also only 1 fan should be running the other fan is for the AC

 

temp gauge is fine.they just turned on when i started the car and it was wanting to stall.

just happened a couple more times 2day. When it was idling rough i gave it a little gas and a puff of smoke came out the grill! i popped the hood right away but found nothin? maybe backfire out the intake?it has a aem cai. please help i hate payin people to fix my cars!!

 

Does the check engine light come on at all? Something is causing the fans to come on. The rough idle could be a few things. But throwing things out there would just be a guess. Have you checked your coolant level? You may want to try bringing it to a autozone or some place like that that does free ecu scanning to see if a code does happen to come up.

 

no check engine light. The fans came on only the first time time it happened. The radiator looks a tad low the the overflow is ok. I looked at the tb for build up of any kind but looked ok?maybe egr? can i take it off and look?

 

Its possible, but there should be a checkengine light if the egr is stuck or plugged. The rough idle, do you notice the tach/rpm going lower than normal all the time or just intermitent?

 

When i come to a aprupt stop the rpms will drop real low like its gonna stall.for some reason this only happens on start up. One time last year it didnt want to start the first time i had to let it sit a few minutes? Im this close to takin it in but in a do-it-yourselfer!

 

How is your air filter?

My car kept wanting to stall out and basically exhibiting similar symptoms... then one day while doing an oil change, I decided to check on the filter and it was completely clogged with dirt and grease.

Cleaned it out, and it stopped the rough idle and almost stalling.

i check my egr and looks fine. i was wondering, when i installed my cai i had to reroute some "coolant lines?" that go to the first throttle body what ever that is, maybe i rerouted them wrong? any pictures of that area??

just took that somunabitc off and checked the passages. So what is that first butterfly valve i was talkin about?

 

That is your throttle body.

 

so there r 2 throttle bodys? Not the one with the throttle cables but the on in front of it?

 

You have a TL-S? If so that is the buterfly for the VSA
