Clanking sound when stoppped

I have the worst sounding (fairly loud) clanking sound from the drivers side back part of the engine compartment (near firewall).

It is very noticeable at lights when i am in D5 and have my foot on the brake. Once i accerelate from the light the sound is gone. This also applies when the car is in motion, however once i stop at a light or whatever it starts again.

If i throw the car in Nuetral and let my foot off the brake it stops. I looked under the hood for anything out of the ordinary, but didnt find anything. its a '00 with 92k on it.

Thanks

Hm, have you checked the mounts yet especially the one by the tranny. Could also be the heat shield on the exhaust.

What is your story of getting the mounts replaced under warranty at that mileage?

I had the extended warranty on the car and actually brought it in due to the tranny failing and they told me they would replace them under warranty while doing the tranny swap. go figure.

Look to see if its loose or rattling. You may be able to reclamp it or just plain remove it (if thats what it is)

There was one thread mentioned about the clip on the o2 sensor wire running up to the engine causing the rattling noise.

I think i might have found the problem. Today driving home from work i was embarassed to pull next to someone at the light it was that bad.

Opened the hood and checked under the car...heat shield felt solid and i couldn't find anything else out of place. I figured while i was there i would check my air filter on my CAI. Sure enough the piping from the CAI was rubbing where it goes through to the bottom part of the car where the air filter connects.

When i got my battery replaced the moron at Sears must have pushed the CAI over trying to grab the battery and bent my brakcet that connects to the chasis from the CAI. It was almost cut all the way through. I wrapped some rubber type tape around it, heated the brakcet and slowly bent it back and then re-tightened everything and I should be good to go. I'll keep this thread updated....hopefully it was just that.
