hey... looks like joe's at it again over on the AV6 forums

I don't have the link to the thread but look for "The Next Turbo J32A2 6MT (DIY In Progress)" under the performance discussion for 6th gen

You planning on turboing your car anytime soon after your conversion? It'd be nice to see a turbocharged tlp six speed. I'll contribute to your success if you wish

Yea and TL-P is good for boost. Low compression FTW.

I didn't really have the money either

My car's paid off so I took out a loan to do the swap. Just $105/month now for the TL.

On a side note, I'm leaving in a few minutes to send back the springs .
Sorry about the whole mix up again.

Got the springs shipped back and ordered another set.

Also decided to go with the CL-S rear engine mount. I already had the mount so I got the bracket (#13), four #32 and #47 bolts.

Now I just need to put everything in

I'm gonna try and get the Random Tech cat in tomorrow and unbolt the downpipe as well so the motor will be easier to pull.

Nice work, you have accomplished a lot so far. I was just wondering if the auto trans crapped out on you, or are you just doing this because you want to?

My original 4spd finally went out at almost 145K. Since I'm way out of warranty, the dealer wanted almost $2900 for the new auto one...

...and I've only been working a couple hours at a time when I'm not at work or school.

I've put the stock CD player back in (look at the old one for sale here), got some PB Blaster on the exhaust bolts to make my life easier and mounted my USB GPS antenna in the top of the passenger A pillar. I'm waiting on the USB extension wire so I can run it the rest of the way to the center console.

I would love to take out a loan to seriously put the TL under the knife, but I have no credit. Lame.

Soaking those bolts in PB Blaster

Here's a pic of the one bolt that holds the auto shift cables under the car.
It's right behind the cat and I'm not sure if this is behind the heat shield or not b/c I don't have mine on there.

The cable out (sort of)

I had a car payment but it's paid off now. I just use the credit card whenever I can and IMMEDIATELY pay it off (online before the bill even gets sent). Instead of using your debit card, use the credit card and as soon as it gets posted to your account, make a direct payment from your checking account that had the money you were going to use with your debit card.

Hopefully will be done by the end of the weekend. Joe is coming up tomorrow night and we might get some work done then but might just start early Friday morning. I have a couple friends that are willing to help out on Sat and Sun to try and get this thing done.

sounds sick. you should be like Mike (murkyriverstl) and manhandle it all yourself. but then again, I'd do the same thing you are doing... I dont like taking on projects that I could cause some serious issues if its not done right. you know?

I wouldn't be able to do it myself b/c I've never really done a big swap like this. This is the first car I've really modded and I've just done bolts ons so far. I'm basically just going to be Joe's helper and just do what needs to be done and follow along. The crappy weather coming our way isn't going to help much either. If all goes well, we'll get everything (trans, motor mounts, cat, shocks/springs) in in 3 days.

Thats all the swap is is removing a few bolts and taking the part out. Its no different than removing a seat. Few bolts, a few clips and you take out. Yes its larger but the trans, motor etc... are NO different or some special thing that requires a vast knowledge of to remove

I understand that, but I don't have any experience doing this so I was saying I don't really know what I'm doing. I physically know how to turn a wrench, it's just the throw out bearing and fork, clutch/flywheel, pedals, pulling the actual motor out... these are things I've never even attempted or even seen done so I wouldn't want to try something like this by myself. Maybe after we do the swap and I get that experience under my belt, I would consider doing something of this magnitude myself, but for now I'll just be a helper until I learn how to do it myself.

This is really all the pics I have for now, but when the real work starts I'm going to make sure to take a bunch. The weather is going to be a burden for the next few days but Saturday and Sunday should be clear enough for us to get some actual work done. I've even got a buddy from work coming to help out and I'll probably just have him or another buddy take all the pictures they can as we are working (so I won't get my new camera dirty ).

if the weathers going to be that crappy, it might be worthwhile to invest in a cheapo tent so you can maximize your time while joe is there. I'm sure you could get something from wal-mart that you could get the car under.

One step ahead of you. My mom has one that I'm picking up and my manager (one of the aforementioned buddies helping out) has another that he's bringing over. Wind is going to get the rain sideways and under the tent and the ground is still going to be wet, but we are gonna have to play the hand we're dealt.
