ENGINE SWAp

The new RL motor, like the new Accord motor has the exhaust manifolds welded to the engine block. Severly limits the amount of work you can do. Although if you are going the motor swap route, I suppose you would go ahead a fabricate something to avoid this little problem.

)
in a car as heavy as the tl torque is king not hp, youll want to keep the tl motor, or even better get the rl, mdx, pilot or odessey block and go from there. then you will have additional hp but a much wider and thicker torque curve as well
the nsx heavy breathing motor reins supreme up top, but who will be there alot?
its kinda like a na cobra vs. a gt mustang... 0-60 the gt will probably win, from there on up the cobra will start to pull how far and fast due you want to run? in 0-60 and quarter mile runs the tl motor is a better starting point, especially cost wise

The NSX weighs less though and the transmission gearing is excellent. Something that isn't normally factored in when merely comparing HP numbers.
NSX curb weight: 3153lbs
TL curb weight: 3482lbs
NSX lbs/hp: 10.87
TL lbs/hp: 12.90
You don't even need the MDX block to complete the conversion. The MDX crank will fit in the J32A2. The stock rods will also work, but if you are cracking open the motor aftermarket rods would be best, and aftermarket custom pistons would be needed to keep the compression ratio in check. You'd be well above 12.0:1 CR with stock pistons. Although custom pistons to get the CR around 11.0:1 or 11.5:1 would make for a real all motor screamer. But with that CR forced induction would be limited greatly.
If you get custom pistons, wouldn't that increase the displacement? (Why would you need the crank?). And would the C/TL-P rods work with their lower 9.8CR vs 10.5CR on Type-S? Wouldn't you also need camshafts tailored for the pistons? (I'm sure one or all of these are stupid questions, but I'd even be happy with a good source for this kind of info).

he also built the engine for FI and the compression before the FI was lower than it would be normally

What do you base that assumption on? 14.5 @ 100 MPH indicates strong power and traction problems off the launch. I made about 315 hp out of my J32 motor before I installed a supercharger. My best was a 14.1 @ 101 MPH. His numbers sound dead on.

here is a link to the 3g tl forum if anyone wants to read it... basically my rambling about and engine swap possibility. comments are always nice
