Thats the way i would do it. Im still beating myself for not buying the whole clip i found 2 years back for like 4k. If i had known that teh manual motor was soo different in sensors and stuff i would have made a larger attempt purchased one of them

Well in the effort to find out why the car is in a saftey mode i discovered that teh cam pulley and backing cover are different on the manual vs the the auto.

Auto on left manual on right.

I wont have time to know if it works because im heading to the USGP in a bit, but when im back ill get them installed and hopefully that will make the car work.

Hey Kris.. there is a thread in the CL board right now about installing RL cams into the CL-S auto engine.. I'm curious what you would think about that thread? they are battling with the rod legnth right now.. I'm just wondering if our cam pulley might work where their cam pulley doesn't ..that would be a great mod for the TL-S engine... RL cams!!! I'll get the link to the thread and post it here...

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...2&page=8&pp=25

since you are knolegable and you have you engine at this point I'm intrested in your opinion... could we work it in the TL-S engine?

well the thing is is teh pulley isnt any different in size, just the pickup points for the sensors.

So the manual cam gear sensor teeth are wider... I wonder why the ECU needs to see a longer TDC pulse than the auto...

This must be the work of Honda engineers chuckling somewhere right now as they read this thread. Those bastards.

I'll bet you've found the solution. did you order both 6spd sensors and the wiring harness for them?

Not really, when you consider it's the Type-S motor and manual tranny w/45k on it

fsttyms1, sure are a lot of variables to consider for this swap. Did you know about most of them, or are you finding out along the way. Can't wait to see the final conversion

random....I am sure it's not about the money ; fsttyms1....has made it a hobby....some people could think of fishing as a lot of wasted time, but some others love it....I wish I had the time, money & talent like fsttyms1 to be able to do something this challenging...and I would welcome the headaches that came along !!!

Yeah if you think about it he's actually saving money. Fstty is the car paid off?

I think once he gets her tweaked properly she will bring joy for quite a few more years.

Yeah and especially doing something like this, you will be proud knowing you built a 6-speed 2G TL. Theres a certain sense of accomplishment when you do crazy things like this.

Don't get me wrong...DIY is a great thing if one enjoy doing it (and learning)...But for ME, that's too much work and time...5K for parts is cheap but all the tools (which I don't have and would have to purchase), along with time invested and labor is too much. If I were to do it, it'll be wayyy too much (adding up all the time/tools/labor). I can just work and pay someone at $50/hr and still save money.
BTW, 35K is a "new" car with all the lastest and greatest goodies. But anyhow, this will be my last Acura. My next one is Mercedes SL500 or may be the AMG version, SL55. I'm done with Acura.

not many tools required for the job. A simple kit from sears would do.

Good luck with benz.

hmm... $500ish for tools. $80,000 for a Benz. Tough call.

I said that ebay auction is too much b/c I had found that before it was posted on this site. And the seller said he is just selling the motor, no tranny, ecu's, etc. So his price is too much for just an engine IMO. I think this project that fsttyms1 has undertaken is great, and I plan to follow in his footsteps shortly. But that was just a ridiculous price.
