Even the Comptech kit requires you to re-use your factory pressure plate.

Wow man, this is friggin mind blowing, I don't log in for 6 months and I find someone doing the very thing I had been contomplating for a few years....

For starters MAJOR PROPS! Deserve some serious recognition for this. Secondly, I want to see what the total bill is for this because I always wanted to get a TL-S, swap the CLS6 tranny in and possibly even boost it...but then I found the Talon and I couldn't pass it up. It seems like a whore converting it but hands on, how much of a bish is it being?

Yea that sucks. So you spend 1200 on a aftermarket kit which you then have to use a factory pressure plate? thats a ripoff.

Ive learned alot, about the differences. For those with a type-s motor to begin with it wouldnt be so bad. A killer will be the little parts and wiring. And 1 FU@*ing sensor thats outrageous. The crank sensor is half of what i payed for the engine. As far as difficulty, it really hasnt been so far. Every thing just bolts right up. There hasnt been a thing that i have had to modify yet to make work (other than the little grinding i did on the civic brake pedal)

I agree. Complete rip off. It's $460 for the stock clutch and flywheel. Yet somehow it's 3x that for the Comptech clutch and flywheel. Don't see how that price is justified.

Me either. thats one of the reasons i didnt go with it. Now if it were to add like 20-30 hp or was going to last twice as long maybe?

Did some more work tonight. I got to rewiring the dash. Every thing went ok so far. I have the whole dash rewired, and every thing went into place. Now as long as it does when its put back in

Dash removed

and all out

I didnt take any during the rewire, i was too busy trying to remember where the wires ran, and it was getting dark. Ill take some more shots in the daytime

Yeah, the comptech one is pricey. With the comptech unit, you get a lightened flywheel and a sprung disk, you still have to use the stock self adjusting piece of shit pressure plate. The lightened flywheel does allow the motor to rev more quickly. Spec clutch claims they make a pressure plate, but know of no one to date who has tried it. I ask for a pic of one and it looks nothing more than a stock pressure plate painted blue, and a bad paint job at that.

As steve said, competition clutch has told me that there will be something in 90 days or so. we'll see.

I've been watching this since the beginning. I put a computer in my car and thought that was amazing...but this, the carpc doesn't even begin to come close. I'm extremely impressed and am enjoying seeing this thing the whole way through.

As far as the CT lightened flywheel, I woudn't think it to be a great idea, because you'd lose the rotational mass. While this would certainly make the engine rev much faster, it would be much of a bonus for a daily driver. It seems that you'd lose power on the low end, or at least feel like so. I'd think one would one want a lightened flywheel for a touring circuit type track, where you'd keep the revs high and could use the lightened flywheel. For day to day stop and go, I'd think this would hurt you.

Kris, thanks for the play by play. I've never seen a thread as in depth as this. Nothing but respect and admiration coming your way, from one Honda fan to another.

Why did you have to re-wire the dash?

Good job man i thought i had project getting my TL to run a couple months ago but this is much harder and the torque u will loose with the lightened flywheel wont even be noticeable fsttyms1 u know that

Yea there are benifits and down sides to the CT flywheel. Nothing worth 1200$ at this point.

Thanks

yes the wiring harness that plugs into the ecu is different . I probably could have worked around that but for the little amount teh harness was it was easier.

On a side note, the dash wasnt really that hard to remove, Just alot- and by alot i mean ALOT of wires to unclip. then it ws just a few bolts and out it slid.

Great job, Kris. You have way more guts than the average DIYer to take on something this big. By the way, what is that part sticking out from the top of the dashboard?

It's a mount/stand for a small monitor.

OK, that makes sense. I took the picture and zoomed in on that part and it does look like a mount of some sort.

Well i ripped the heads off the old engine and the cylinders are in near perfect shape. You would think that they only had like 20k on them and not 200k. There arent any wear marks. Looked at the timing belt, and there is no cracking to be found, and looks almost as good as the new one for the new motor! I bet there was another 100k out of it!

Yea even in the cylinders you can still se the crosshatch machining on the walls. You can tell the belt isnt new, but you wouldnt know it had 200k on it thats for sure

So how long do you think the engine itself could have lasted (not the timing belt)?

looking at it easily another 250. the compression was spot on before i tore it down and the inside is in great shape. Unless a bearing went on it the motor was like new

Well UPS delivered the sensors today and ofcourse i cant get teh crank bolt off. The motor just turns and i dont have teh tool to hold it. Looks like tomorrow ill slide the tranny off so i can stick a bolt thru the clutchplate or something to hold it from turning. That way i can finally get it installed hopefully for the last time!

Gear wont hold it, and there is no way to leverage a screwdriver with enough force to hold it.
