Cost for Spring Installation?

bought a set of h&r oe sport springs this weekend. Checking around for price on installation, I found a local reputable mechanic who estimated 260.00 (plus he thought an alignment was necessary). This was was consistent with what Park Avenue Acura charges (255.00, but they're 2.5 hours away). Took this info to my local Acura dealer, saying I'd like to give them the work if they can meet this price and they came back with 425.00 plus alignment. Needless to say I wont go there, but wanted to get your experience to see if I need to explore costs with others......Thanks

I've seen anywhere from $150-$700.

Its a pain in the ass to install springs on our cars because the rear seat needs to be taken out to disconnect the shocks.

$260 sounds fair.

Yeah, 250 sounds very fair. As long as they know what they are doing.

Part of the time/$ that the Acura dealer is quoting you is the time to take the rear seats in and out. Might want to take them out yourself before you drop the car off. Might save you some time / money. Plus his is only an estimate. (he may have never done a CL befor) So taking the seats out prior might be smart thing to do.

Take some good befor and after shots. And try and measure what drop you end up with. Thanks!

I got my comptech springs installed a week ago. I went to the dealership and got a quote and it was ridiculous... I was quoted around 450 just for installation and no alignment. it was just under 800 bucks with springs....

Needless to say any further, i wen to an aftermarket tuning shop and got the springs installed for 80 bucks. They did an awesome job. I don't htink i'm going to get anything done at the dealer anymore... they rape you with outrageous labor rates.

Do it yourself. Free. I did shocks and springs in 2 hours with a buddy on my car. $60 for alignment.

I went with PAA at $255 however like you stated its too far away. Any chance your local dealer would match PAA?

I'd try that, but with my mechanical skills, I'd either have a busted car or be in the ER

Find someone who knows what there doing to help you. If you don't know anyone that mechanical, maybe someone on the boards might help you out. Doing it yourself is usually a lot cheaper, and its more rewarding to do it yourself than pay someone. Just if you do go this route, make sure you get what you need ahead, when I did the springs/shocks on my dads car, he didn't have everything that was needed and doing the job took 3 weeks (working only a few hours each weekend).

free(relative term), as long as u have a jack and jack stands , one torque wrench, ratchet and one 10,12,14,17,and 19 mm ratchet attachments. Did my springs this weekend for the first time and took me 6 hrs by myself. I can give u all the torque settings if u need them.

Find someone from this forum who lives in your area that's done springs before. Chances are, he would do it for a case of beer.

I would.

Dealer in El Paso quoted me $70/shock and $70 for the alignment plus tax. I think I'll shop around some more.

Continued my search and got a guy who will do it for 50 per wheel, alignment is extra and would have to be done somewhere else. Gonna get the springs on next Thursday.
