What price are you paying for 2006 TSX ???
#641
I've been lurking around here for about three months and finally pulled the trigger tonight. Got a ASM automatic with ebony interior for 25655 including, wheel locks, trunk tray, and splash guards. Purchased at Power Acura in Torrance, CA. With tax, title, etc came out to 28087 otd. Wanted the manual but since my car was wrecked and considered a total loss last week i could go another month without a car. Thanks for all the great info.

My final negotiated price was $27,300 at Spitzer, before anything taxes or fees. Tax was 6%, tags were $100. All other fees were waived. All accessory costs were waived.

Yeah, Pittsburgh appears to be pretty rough (I bought from Spitzer as well). I probably could have done better if I had more time, but my previous car's transmission was messed up and I was on borrowed time - I couldn't even put it in park and you had to start it in neutral. Given that, I was pretty happy with the trade. After a lot of negotiation and time (calling wholesalers), they ended up giving more than blue book "good", which was better than I expected given the condition. I got less movement on the TSX price... I think MSRP for my CGP AT with Navi was $30,500 (including destination), and they came down to $29,200 (with protection package thrown in). They *claimed* they were taking a $500 loss on the trade, so I like to think of my price as $28,700 + TTL. Yours was non-navi, right? Sounds like we got similar deals. Not like California...

What is the California sales tax? I konw I had to pay 7% and that's in the seller's market here in Pittsburgh. There's only one dealer close to where I live, and there is very little TSX stock around here (and therefore, not that much room for dealing). I got one of the most common combinations (CGP, Ebony, 5 AT, Navi) and they had to get it from Maryland.

It might not be a bad deal, considering you probably paid about 23.5-24k before tax and fees. A brand new would go for about 25.5k before tax and fees.

Got an Offer,
OK, I got an offer yesterday for the following:
2006 TSX, ABP, Auto, Navi
Accessories: Spoiler, Wheellocks, Trunk Tray, Splash Gaurds, Cargo Net
Offer: $29,200 for above + $125 document fee= $29,325 before TTL.
Does this sound like a good deal? I countered with $29,000 but they would not go any lower. I am on the fence whether to go ahead or not.
Please let me know.
Thanks!

I just looked up average bying price data for the TSX on edmunds.com. Apparently, they calculate it by pulling retail sales numbers from various geographic areas. Obviously the posts we see here are not indicative of the averages. According to their True Market Value "what others are paying", my car (2006 Carbon Gray Pearl 5A w/Navi) sells for $29,625 here in Pittsburgh (includes destination charge but not tax or any other fees). LA and SF were only a little cheaper at $29,514. There must be a lot of dealerships out there that don't move at all and still sell 'em. I guess those people don't want to post here. Either that or the Internet crowd has shrewd negotiators!

Was really hoping Calgary would have won in the West, and Montreal in the East, getting down to an all-Canadien final 4. Would have been interesting.
For all the pricing information, I wonder if maybe those that don't have as many dealers around them are the ones that need to do more research on invoice price, holdbacks, etc, in hopes of getting a good price. I didn't bother doing that for my purchase, because I figured dealers competing against each other would give me a decent price.

SORT OF RANDOM THOUGHT:
One thing I found funny about our salesman was that when he was "looking up prices" for the TSX, he whipped out this list that said in big, bold letters saying "CONFIDENTIAL INVOICE PRICES".. and he just left it on his desk for the world to see. (we ended up paying 28,100, he would not budge on the 100 dollars because of the cleaning fees or whatever) obviously those aren't the real invoice prices, but it was sure amusing. I think car sales people are great actors.. i especially love it when they walk away for 10 minutes to "negotiate prices with their managers".
btw.. picking up my PWP tomorrow at noon i'm so excited after 2+ weeks of waiting!!

Does anyone have any info on pricing in Florida, specifically Tampa area, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, or Orlando? I am visiting friends in all these areas and negotiating while I am there. Best offer so far is 29,500 + 499 dealer fee + TTL for AT/navi. I know this is about 1500 too high, and I haven't given them my best shot yet, but I want to know what to expect in FL. Plenty of info on Cali, Pittsburgh, and Chicago, but nothing down south. Any advice would be appreciated. I plan to start at 28,000 and go no higher than 28,800. Do you think this is in the ballpark?

think about this: for a lot of people that can afford this car, time is a valuable thing. i spent a lot of time contacting a few dealers, getting screwed by one, and then another few hours at the final dealer, negotiating back and forth between two before settling on a price.
all in all, let's say i spent 8-10 hours total (probably more than that though).
for some people, 1-2 grand just isn't worth that much of their personal time. so a lot of people will go in, negotiate as best they can at one location, and walk out with a purchased vehicle. lucky for us there are those people, so dealers can afford to move a few for volume at good deals for people like us.

I'm putting this together with another thread that mentioned that TSX (and TL) sales both set records for April. I'm not sure if this is the case, but one possibility is that besides the profit made on each individual sale, there could be quota bonuses. A dealership could earn some type of bonus if they sell maybe 30 TSX's in a month (assuming they have that many to sell), so in the big picture, selling a handful around cost, vs for a hefty profit, could be worthwhile. The dealership I bought my TSX from (in April) seemed fairly busy on the days I was there. It could be that the manager didn't have a problem approving the price I asked for, because he knew the sale would put them that much closer to a bonus.

i am relatively positive that the amount they sell is definitely a performance metric that they get bonuses based on. Also, the salesman told me what they get for good reviews on the surveys, and it was not a small amount, but i cant remember (i think he said like $500-$1000 for a good review).

I had one dealer pull up the Edmunds TMV because I mentioned looking at prices online, and said I should be happy because his was below the $29,943 (!) that Edmunds had for the TMV. He didn't believe me when I said people were getting it for 28k.
And to join in on the discussion on dealer surveys, I had my sales guy tell me how important they were the other day when he told me he would hook me up with some stuff if I gave all 5's. The F&I guy also asked how I was going to rate them and that 5's were what they were hoping for. I think they were somewhat concerned because I didn't have the best experience... I wanted that specific color combination and when I called Thursday they said they could get it in within a day or two, which would work perfect with my schedule as I was going home for the semester from college. However, from what I can gather, they had trouble negotiating with the dealership that had the car, so it didn't come in until today (all the meanwhile telling me "Oh we'll have the VIN number tomorrow, I promise"). Then they said it'd come in this morning (I was then hoping to get home and have a late lunch once I got it) but didn't end up picking it up until almost 6 today.
For their credit though, they gave me a loaner TSX for the weekend until my car came in today, and they threw in some of the dealer accesories (splash guards, trunk tray, the usual). It was quite a hassle though as my apartment lease ended Monday, so I had to store all my crap in my girlfriends room for a night until I could drive it back to Tampa today.
Anyways, so far I absolutly love the car. This is my first car ever, as I needed to buy one since I'm graduating from grad school in December. It's been a very long 5 years of riding the bus to class everyday to say the least. My parents cut me off once I graduated high school, so I've lived on scholarships and fellowships which provide enough for tuition, food and rent, but not for things like car payments, insurance, and gas.
I've been looking for about 2 and a half months now, and cross shopped with a Camry XLE and Accord EX since it had to be below 30k, reliable, and loaded (which adding any sort of options to an A4 or IS250 put it quite a bit above 30K). Loved it since I first sat in it, and really loved it after I test drove, and been a lurker on here for about a month. Still got the new buyer's excitement, hence the long post
