take it to the dealer or my regular mechanic?

I have a leak in my Rear main seal and my mechanic quoted about $1100 (northern NJ). I haven't asked the dealer yet but i was wondering what everyone else would do, go to a dealer mechanic or someone else?

Typically the dealer is by far the most expensive. My advice would be to find a good Honda mechanic and see what they quote you.

I believe that they need to pull the tranny to replace that so you're paying mostly for labor

They do need to pull the tranny, so 1100 is as previously stated, mostly labor. Take it to a qualified and recommended Honda/Acura mechanic.

I am getting my timing belt, all the seals, belts, water pump, tensioner, valves adjusted, tranny flush and the rear main replaced this weekend for $1000 WITH ALL PARTS!

Found a Honda mechanic in the work bay and asked him to do it for me. He agreed.

He also told me that Acura would charge (according to the book) $750 for just the rear main replacement. But they will always find a few more things to add onto that price.

Oh and the timing belt replacement is 800-1200 dealer price.

Valve adjustment is around $300-500

Both depending on time spent...

So I think that $1100 for a rear main is WAY out of line... You should be able to find someone to do it for a few hundred like stated... I wouldnt pay more than $400

Spend wisely.

i paid $550 to have it done on my accord at a Honda dealership. If you shop around, you can find a better price than 1100. They did a perfect job and put everything back together correctly. Do you have a manual? If so, perfect time for a clutch replacement!
