Premium recommended, but not required ?
don't want to start another heated discussion lol, just looking for simple answers.
When I bought the 16 ILX, I used premium (the dealer said regular is fine)......I've been running regular for about 2 months now and the car rides beautiful, smooth, I'm still reaching 38-42 mpg on long trips (pretty much the same)
just wanna know for the long run, if I'm safe using regular? Or should I switch back

this is as simple as it gets;

if the car is knocking, needs higher octane. if no knock, you can get away with regular.

butt be careful, the way Honda engines are set up; Engine compression ratio is pretty high, which can lead to knocking with low octane fuel.

higher octane fuel prevents knock.

and plus, you dont really save money when using a lower octane fuel. The ECU adjusts so that lower power, lower fuel economy to account for the lower octane to prevent knock.

thus why it's "recommended"

As an engineer, I am not the correct person to go to for specific complaints/warranty stuff. I was merely stating how I know what I know about these vehicles. I'd be happy to answer whatever spec-related questions I can about the ILX/TLX/Accord.
No problems with regular thru 36000 miles on our 2013 ILX Tech. Highway average is always over 37 mpg.
