Burning Brakes
I'll contribute something, though it's a small tale of woe.
Previously, I posted having gone to Auto Details (155 Street and 105 Ave) for some small damage repair. I was please with the work (May, 2014), though a bit disappointed when I noticed what appeared to be a couple of door dings on the repaired side on 6 months later. I put off doing anything about the dings, as it didn't look like it was through the paint.
Last Friday night, I went through a wash (touchless), and the following morning, noticed that a patch of clearcoat had flaked away from the bottom of the rear driver side door. My initial reaction was to be pissed with the wash, but it didn't take long to realize that this was not usual, and then I realized it was on the spot that had been previously repaired.
I'll see about posting some pics by the weekend.
I took it to Topline, and they agreed it wasn't the fault of the wash. Said it was unusual, but they've seen that happen on rare occasion, and that it should certainly be warrantied.
So I went back to Auto Details and showed them. They seemed surprised as well, but then suggested that it could happen if rocks hit the side of my car, and water got into the chips. That's not the case here, and it was pretty obvious; the rest of the car is pristine (at least as pristine as one can expect for a 2009), whereas the door in question has several small "bubble" spots, some flaking that's ready to go around the handle, and the big flaked portion already discussed. But no rock chips or pits. Their offer: they can fix it for $599, but I'd only be on the hook for half ($299) plus shop supplies (another $45) and GST.
Topline has offered to work on their price for me, and even give me some sort of credit for a gift certificate I have at Auto Details. It would still be more at Topline, but I'm tempted to go that route, if only because I know it will be done right.

@sockpuppet - Yikes, that sounds brutal. Once clear coat failure hits, there is no fix to it besides a repaint. From what you described, I definitely wouldn't go back to the first company considering they did such a poor job the first go around. For the clear to fail in such a short amount of time, it makes me wonder how experienced their painter is. The process to a respray can be finicky and if they were impatient or didn't do it right, it leads to premature failure. It's disappointing to hear they aren't willing to own up and fix the door at their own cost. I don't see how it's the users fault unless you went and polished the paint like a mad man or wet sanded it down (which I highly doubt you did).
@myron - Haha my TL is in storage. Waiting for the roads to clear up and to be sweeped before I bring it out. I haven't kept up with the popular mods for 3G's in a long time. Maybe I'll look into it and see if there's anything worth doing this summer.

Anyone have any experience in installing coilovers? I just bought some and really don't want to pay a $400 installation fee. I've seen DIYs on the forum but don't want to tackle it just myself as I'm inexperienced. Heard it isn't a difficult job, just really time consuming. If there's someone out there, I'm willing to pay a bit haha.

Took me 3 hours to install coils on buddy's TL by myself in my garage. Not a big deal. I'd offer to do it man, I just don't have time for it. If I get laid off at the end of the month I might be able to help you but lets hope it doesn't come to that haha

@Myron
Hahaha, I hope you don't get laid off! But I'm in no rush to install them, just don't want to pay a shop $400+ to install. Let me know if you ever have time haha.

yea I'll let you know. There is a write up on this site too, take a look and read it a few times over. You will realize that if you can take a wheel off and undo 4 bolts per side up front and 4-5 bolts per side in the back, you can do this job. back is harder because you have to take out the back seat, but that's like 2-3 screws I think, again, there is a detailed write up on it as well.

Yeah I've seen it, looks good but just skimmed over it for now. There's also a youtube video so I'll have some good resources. If i do end up getting stuck, im sure there will be someone to help me out.

This thread used to be really active back in the 3G TL days. I remember we had a meet one time and it was at least 6 3G TLs, 1 TSX, and 1 RL.
Are you from Edmonton?

^Yes I did. Lol. I got it for my birthday. So about two months ago. I got rid of the RDX because I wanted something sporty. If the 2nd gen RDX had SH-AWD I'd probably still have it. The SH-AWD is something else. Lol. The mod bug has not started yet. All stock except: xpel on hood, bumper, grill, headlights, fog lights, fender, a - pillar, roof, and tints all around.
How you doin? You got married did you?

First time posting in here... I'm an Edmonton northsider. Gasp!
No, I'm no trouble maker. Keep to myself.
Myron, I recognize you from 780. I keep very very very far away from that place. Ultra conservative, toxic waste dump, that place is. Don't dare tell a Conservative they're wrong. You'll never hear the end of it

Yea I am north side too. Cherry Grove area there on 167th.
I know what you mean about 780, most of the guys there are old guys who have known each other for years and years and anyone new is just an outcast. That's why I rarely post on there and just read dumb arguments when I am bored.

Damn, you guys are all close to me, I'm more in the Belle Rive/Eaux Claires area. Wouldn't mind meeting up with you guys, it's been a while. Despite having my TL-S written off last year I still got love for Acura.

I have the fx35/45/50 on my short list, really like the "bionic cheetah" look. It doesn't conform to everything else and still drives damn well, not just for an suv.

I used to live between cherry grove and belle rive lol. Funny how we are so clustered! I sold my rdx about 3 weeks ago, but I would be down for a meet. Doesn't have to be an Acura meet, could just be a anything goes meet lol. Still rocking the family santa fe till I find a good replacement for the rdx.
So many north side guys in one place? Better watch out, could get dangerous!

And it's a beast in the snow with some winter tires. It's awd but not full time, so fronts turn off unless there is a slip so it does a bit better on gas than a full time awd

I have the 1st gen FX35. 2nd gen has some more refinement than first. But mechanically they are almost identical. Nothing better in the 2nd gen than 1st.

The 1G fx is still a really good car though. It has a lot of features I really like and I love that the awd is rwd-based and not fwd based. Do you ever take it on groat road? Would love to see how it handles it. I could safely do groat road going 100-110 in the rdx before things started feeling a little dicey.
I currently have the 2012 sorento sx in pearl white at the top of my list. That thing handles surprisingly well, and I love the features like heated steering wheel, pano roof, cooled seats, power fold mirrors...etc. Just waiting on a job interview so I can take a small loan and add it to the rdx money and buy it.
The 2G fx is still going for like 20k with 150k+ on it
