Mantis, you're pha-real looking into making a change? If you really dig on it, would you check into the G35C? I've gotta look at a badazz G35C in my work parking lot every day. Black, black tint, big rimz and brembo brakes. It's reeeeaaally sweet.

Yea Dan, If I asked him, I bet he could probably get a G35C home for a weekend too, but I hate to beg. I'd be happy with a 350 for a few hours.
And while its not a coupe, my sister does have a g35... I've had the chance to drive it around quite a bit, but its not the 6 spd.

Nice pix, Mantis.
Alcon Laboratories is officially off today. Guess I'll make a nice big breakfast, and take a big ole... uh... nap. I'm still billing those fockers 8hrs though. It's not my fault they called the day off!

mantis, your bro in law is borrowing a Z? Those Nissan bastards wouldn't even let me test drive a used one, and he can borrow one for the weekend? You know you'll want to drive everywhere in it, so swing by Arlington and give me a ride. or a drive

Danny, well, he manages a few dealerships around (not sure exactly what it is he does), but he has access to cars for alleged 'business trips'.
As far as the directory thing, its a server side parameter, if your school admin has allowed for directory browing, then you can post like that also. It looks like they have directory browing turned off. :/

Concerns about IceBox
OK guys, as you know, I replaced my road lamps with the 2003 black plastic inserts last fall, and now that I've got the IceBox installed, it seems like it's a really good idea to drill out the back of the right insert (since they're fake air vents and actually closed in the back) to get more air flow into the intake tube reaching down into the fender. My concern is that I'm gonna have nothing between the air (and what's in it like water, dirt, bugs, etc) and the front of that tube if I do this. Since probably everyone in this DFW thread knows more about this subject than me , I thought I should ask your opinion.
So, what's your opinion?
Thanks,
Dan

Ice Box vs. CT headers
Gentlemen,
I understand that some are saying the Ice Box is better than the headers. I tried to look at the thread, but the link didn't work for me. I hope I am not repeating what has alread been stated elsewhere, but here are my thoughts on the Ice Box vs. CT headers question:
The Ice Box is the same level of gain across the whole power band, where as the headers have a minimal increase until you get to 5800 RPM, after which you have huge gains.
The result of this is that you actually feel more pull from the Ice Box over the headers during typical driving conditions.
The facts show that the Ice Box outperformes the CT headers until you reach 6000 RPM.
Based on Comptech's dynos, the HP numbers are as follows (read the first number as the gain for the Ice Box, the second number as the gain for the CT headers, and the third number as the +/- advantage that the Ice Box has over the CT headers at a given RPM):
RPM Ice Box Headers Ice Box vs. headers +/-
------ --------- ---------- ------------------------------
2800 +6 -1 +7
3000 +7 +1 +6
3400 +8 +2 +6
4000 +10 +1 +9 advantage Ice Box
4400 +10 +5 +5
5000 +7 +5 +2
5400 +8 +3 +5
5800 +14 +13 +1
------ --------- ---------- -----------------------
6000 +14 +17 -3
6400 +12 +25 -13 advantage headers
6600 +13 +32 -19
These are gains over stock at each RPM as published by Comptech. The dynos:
CT Header Dyno
CT Ice Box Dyno
Comments?
Cheers, Inferno

Any thoughts on how they would interact together? Can we safely assume that the HP gains would at least be added from the baseline curve?
I'm assuming the CT dynos are stock plus each component individually?

My main point is that where the headers give you a hell of a lot of boost over the final 1,000 RPM, the Ice Box gives you an even boost over 4,000 RPM. They complement each other well.

Re: Concerns about IceBox
I don't know how it is put together, but what I would do is drill out the one side except for a lip. To this lip, I would affix (with epoxy) a grill like what Danny has (heavy duty gutter wire). Before afixing, however, I would spraypaint the grill flat black with a Rust-o-leum primer (use multiple coats if possible). That will keep the big rocks and bugs out but still let the cool air in! Cheers, Inferno

There are two reasons you should not even need to worry.
A: The hole that you will be creating will not be big enough for something extreme to get into your engine.
B: The foam cover around the air filter adds extra protection with hardly any loss in air flow, so no dirt should be getting in there and if you go through a puddle 3 ft deep, then you MIGHT get water up there in which case the foam will help agains and that little resonator box may help as well.
Though I must say, adding a grill piece would be cool if it could be seen and if that is true, then I'd do it to both sides for a cleaner look.

Nutz, as long as the holes you drill aren't that big, nothing very large will be able to get up into the tube, like Casper said. I would just use a small bit and drill holes in the fake mesh where it looks like a hole should be. If you drill enough of them they will allow more air in because there's a lot of holes, but shouldn't let anything else in cause all the holes are small.
The gutter guard actually has holes in it about the same size as the fake holes in your insert, so I don't know if that would help.

My headers should be getting here Fri.!!!! But I don't know when I'm gonna be able to install them. It depends on if my neighbor will help me with them, and if he does, when he has time.

Sooo... I was thinking about who should/will have the fastest Acura CL/TL in the DFW area in the *near* future, and my projections are that Inferno is gonna take the cake when he gets his new rimzos. Anyone refute this claim?

I got a reply back from Comptech that states:
"Dan,
You should be ok with drilling out the vent plates. Since our filter sits up high like the stock unit, the filter should be fine. Thanks for your input on our ice box!
-Joe."
So, I guess I'm gonna use my day off (again) to do a little handy-work on that insert.
I also reset the ECU last night (partially out of complete boredom ), so I'll be paying attention to how it runs as it tunes itself back in from scratch. Of course, I won't be paying attention until this focking ice melts...

Any locals have aftermarket pulleys?

i don't think anyone has pulleys around here. I'm kinda leary of pulleys cause I've heard they can cause problems with the car's electrical system.
I won't be getting any new wheels for a while, so Inferno should definately give me some good competition.

I don't know if I'm gonna make it or not. I wanna get my headers on first, and I don't know when that's gonna happen. But the first Fri. after I have my headers on, I'm there for sure.
