RUF, it isn't a MM III (Mystery Mod Three) if you tell everyone. It is more like the TECIAPWM III (Tell Everyone 'Cause I'm A Post Whore Mod Three). See what I mean?

oh Bin, I meant to call you yesterday. for the past few days, my left eye has been bugging me, so yesterday morning I decided to look closely at it in the mirror and to my surprise my eye was swolen. So I was forced to use a day of vacation () and I went and saw my doctor. Conclusion is that they think I rubbed something into my eye. *cough* metal shavings *cough*

Just an FYI guys, this was some serious measurement/modification to get this unit in. We had to cut the outer chassis of the LCD unit in half to get it to fit in the whole. It totalled to about a 3 or 4 day project considering mine and Duck's schedule. Crazy.

I thought everyone knew about the various 'cheap' mods I was doing, and using the 'MM' designation as a jab at the original MMI and MMII that never came to be.

Anyway, if this works then I'm not planning on keeping my mods to myself . . . it won't be fair or would it. :P

Hey Ruf, you tried the ram-air mod at the last meet. Could you notice any performance increase?

Looks like Bin is gonna pick up some plexiglass (or I think he already did) and we'll custom fabricate that to cover the empty space.

Texas World Speedway!

Not the most exciting action shot, but I liked the view inside the banked speedway. Yes, that is your very own Inferno leading a Mini and a Viper coming out of Turn Three on the long road course!

, yep, I did. It was noticable, especially on the top end where you'd expect it to be with more air being forced into the intake.

I was hoping to increase the ramair intake capacity by 2-3x, but it looks like my ground clearance will make that a major issue. I tried working on the setup today, but have to rethink it. At best another approach may increase the intake by 50% and I'll have to see how that ends up working.

Sigh, oh well . . . there's always headers and pullies, but this one would have been less that $25 to rig up. I figure that would have given me another 5hp or so . . . not bad for the $$$.

Not yet, but I am trying to make the most of the stock equipment: synthetic oil, performance alignment (big difference), upgraded pads (I am going one more level up when I wear these out).

I am uncertain on what path to take with the upgrades. The cheap but limited path is a springs and sways upgrade. The expensive but open-ended path is a new coil over system like the Prodrive and Praxis systems (adjustable from touring to sport to track). I don't want to start with one and then switch to the other--too expensive. Since it is a new car, the upgrades are trial and error still. I am also pretty happy with the car stock! Especially since the alignment which cut my tire wear in half at the track!

Well guys the verdict ain't good. The 1st gen is totteled. The insureance is offering me $10,942. They will sell me the car for $2,500 and give me the differance. I am thinking of keeping the car and rebuilding it. What do you guys think?

The insurance co. said they stoped writing the estimate at $9,500. It still drives straight infact I drove it home and to the dealer. I am thinking I can do a lot of the work my self and maybe even do a carbinfiber hood and custom fenders. Just thinking but I bet I can get it back together for $4K.

Bluesman, sounds to me like you could at least fix it up and make a little cash off it. Depends on how much your effort is worth to you, I guess.
Like I said before, I really liked your CL, so it's a shame to hear that it's totalled.

I got the 1st gen back home this morning and started to look it over. I had just about decided to keep it and try and fix it, but now I see that the front motor mount next to the transmission is broken and the front of the car from the motor farward is moved to the drivers side about 1 1/2".

I wish I could get someone to look at it and help me decide what to do. This sucks!

I measured between the axels and sure enough there is about 1 1/4" differance left vs right.

Where is everyone?

Bluesman, if it were me, I would take the money and put it towards another car. I don't trust unibody designs when they get bent--they will never be exactly right nor as strong.

I know you love the car, but you can turn this into a positive move if you put your heart into it. I hated letting my CRX go (along with all my dreams of building it into a screaming machine!). You know I was the only owner. But I love my WRX (what's a letter change among friends?).

Figure out what you want out of the car long-term, then go get that kind of car. It may be another 1st gen or you may want a 2nd gen or something completely different. But go with your heart or you will wish you put ol' red back together.

If you decide to fix it up, be prepared to drop a ton of money getting it back to where you want it to be.

Just my two bits worth. Inferno

What Inferno said, times 2.

If you decide to keep the car, it will become a money pit. Save yourself the agony of dumping too much cash into that car. I know how guys can get attached to rides tho, its up to you.

I would take the 10k, and get a Civic for 5k and drop another 10k into for around 400fwhp

take the money AND keep the car.... it's a spare motor at least! you can buy another 1st gen, or get whatever you want and sell all the stuff off your wrecked one and make up the 2500 pretty easily... there are a TON of positive ways to look at this.

just let me know, and i'll come over to help take the old girl completely apart!

sux you have to go through this in the first place...
ya know, you could always get a 4th or even better 5th gen maxima with the extra cash. I know a guy that knows a few things about them... and how to mod them

i put my JDM Cefiro headlights on friday btw... x 1000
just need to buy a kit now so i can have a body shop custom mold it to make the headlights fit better (they're not a direct perfect fit)

Bluesman . . . that really sucks. Lemme call my brother and see what he says . . if it's not too late. My thought is what Inferno said . . . not ever going to be right. You'll still need a frame machine to pull things back into alignment . . and that can be tricky depending on where and or how the body is bent.

BTW - baby's got some new shoes today . . . they are not Toyo T1-S's but I didn't have the cash for this. They were almost 1/2 the price and only weighed 1lb more than the T1-S's.

I got the 225/47/17 Falken Zeix 512s

http://falken.innovapp.com/tires/512_infopg.htm

They're not nearly as tight as the T1-S's in the corners, but feel pretty good on take-off. I tried to chirp 2nd, but couldn't and I was chirping the T1-S's pretty good. They also feel smoother and sound quieter too.

Time will tell how they do at the track. I got to beat that 14.58 time.

I also looked at the new Nitto Neo Gen, but couldn't get enough info on them.

Ah my friend . . . not totally. I kept the two back tires as they still had some tread on them. And I was actually thinking of you.

The fronts were worn past the wearbar and I was spinning them too easily.

So if you want the Toyo's come and get them.
