of course, most in stock trim cars spent most of the day spinning those 70 series bias-ply tires . . .
Of couse I'd settle for a nice 87 Regal GN or even an 89 GNX . . now what's that blue dot in my rearview mirror . . . :P Of course the 1970 GSX is one of my all time favs. It pulled 13.1 with those cheap tires and low 12's with some good rubber . . . in stock trim . . . the '89 GNXs with a tweaked motor were running 11s, and some of the more modified ones were running 8-sec 1/4s with some even in the 7s.
:buff:
Then again, I'm not putting down the STI . . . all around it's clearly one of the all time best balanced performance cars ever todate.

Some fodder for you drag racing nuts . . .
Note, these tips are for rear wheel drive cars so be carefull with the suspension and tire tips . . there is a difference. Also, as far as leaving the tranny in auto-mode is not true for all tranny's. I had a GM auto with OD and it was more consistent with manual-mode shifting. However, on ours there is a difference as it's been proven time and time again. The auto mode shifts sooner and also seems to shift slower . . . probably to give it that softer luxury feel.
After working on these tips I expect to see everyone's times improve .1 to .2 secs.

Visually, the STi is one of those cars that you either love or hate. Its an aquired taste.... personally... I like it . I think the general concensus is the latter though. But the dollar to performance ratio is unmatched without a doubt. I don't think I needed to state that, but I did anyway.

when launching a FWD car, you wanna keep the weight as much forward on the driving wheels as possible, so i should inflate the rear tires and tighten the rear Koni's, while leaving the front as soft as possible.
yes yes?

Sounds like a test case for the next track meet.

i think the STi is totally bad ass , and the styling has definitely grown on me since the WRX came out, but i can't come close to saying i *like* the Impreza bodystyle. it's a pretty lame econo-jap body, imo.

Excellent rain tire. I give the proxy 4s 3.5 out of 4 stars.

Which tire seemed to spin the least under hard accel?
T1-S. Yokos or the new 4s?
I'm not so much worried about being the best in rain or on the twisties as I am in the off the line traction.

The proxy 4s break loose, but its still very respectable, even under spray.

This is very dangerous for the "Big Boys" running slicks behind you, and could get you removed from the track. Also, don't do your burnout in the water, as it tends to throw water all over everyone and everything within 50 yards of the starting line! The car in line behind you will be very annoyed.

Hey RUF, what car do you drive these days? Was that the 1970 Hemicuda? Oh wait, you drive that white TL-S. I wouldn't own one of those if you paid me...oh, wait. Damn it, I can't even rip on RUF's car...
PS: Danny's a whiny post whore and Casper's no better (but at least he isn't a cry baby about broken bones like Bluesman).

I know I've asked this before. But what size tire do I need for pure 1/4 runs for a 17" rim? I was thinking 245/45/17, or do I want more profile than that?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You want as much footprint on the ground as possible. You'll have to balance between the widest tire your rim supports without causing the tire to bow out of shape. The other thing you want is a soft compound tire . . 200 or less is good. I think slicks are like 100 or 80 :P
The only draw back to a really wide tire on FWD cars is they stick out past the areodynamics . . . you could create as custom moulding that helps deflect some of that. Some doublesided body tape would help make it easy to put on and take off.
Also, don't forget weight. Tires are the furthest from the center of the hub so the have the greatest impact on unsprung weight.
Hope this helps.
