Windows XP Tablet

Is there a difference between the Tablet version of XP and a regular one? I am trying to reformat my Tablet PC and was wondering if installing a regular XP would cause the tablet to not work as well as it normally would. I wouldn't want the tablet to not let me write or draw as I did before. Does anyone have any experience with this? I haven't really seen any Tablet XP sold before

The Tablet Edition of XP is a separate version. It is based on XP Pro, but has the additional features needed for the touch screen.

Do you not have the original discs that came with the computer? Some computers don't come with discs, but make you burn your own using some utility. The CD-Key should be on the bottom of your Tablet PC.

I lost the original disks. I guess I'll have to find other means of installing the Tablet Edition

Upgrade to Vista!! I think most if not all versions of Vista support Tablet PC funtionality. At least the Home Premium does.

or spend a few bucks and your PC maker should ship you out the discs or maybe they have them available in a downloadable form.

For XP, MS sold a tablet version (Windows XP Tablet Edition) required for the touch screen. Some manufacturers however used their own drivers for that capability for XP Home / Pro and other versions of Windows.

Vista now has the tablet functionality built into all versions (Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate) with the exception of Vista Home Basic.

As far as usefulness, most Tablet PCs have a keyboard and touchpad built in so they are every bit as useful as any Laptop computer. But with the touchscreen, it adds a whole new interface for input.

I do not have a Tablet, but my next laptop will definately be one!

P.S. Your only possible downside would be you will probably pay more for a Tablet than an equally equipped Laptop.
