Living the Dream
Two quick comments regarding Netflix.
#1: Netflix streaming + DSL =
#2: Not too happy (though I understand) that I cannot stream movies while overseas.
I think we'll cancel our subscription for the next year and when I get home we'll pick it back up. Oh and no more DSL, it blows hard.

Probably won't see brand new movies on streaming for a while. I bet they would need some crazy bandwidth to be able to stream new releases. It would probably crush local ISPs as well.

i've got netflix w/ the one dvd at at a time deal in the mail. as well as the xbox live feature.
regarding streaming, it has always worked fine for me. you get movies, tv shows, etc via broadband cable (comcast)
the movies, while some are def not worth watching, you can find some obscure ones floating around and build your library with that.
i think i've got close to 300 movies/tv shows saved in my que on xbox live, that i can watch whenever i want, for free. i think that's a pretty decent deal.

I don't feel the streaming deal is worth it. There aren't enough movies that are available. Most of the things I want to watch are only available on DVD.

So... I signed up for a 1 month trial of streaming only.
So far I'm not impressed by the library. No new movies, not many newish movies. Seems like they have tons of 80s and 90s movies
I don't mind watching older movies but I'd like some newer stuff. Maybe I should add some DVDs to my plan.

There is a LOT of movies, actually, that I have watched/found through streaming that I really like. Also I've watched a bunch of documentary type stuff on it too.
But yes, if you're wanting new movies, you're going to need to get the DVDs.

i have the flu and was home sick all day yesterday - watched about 6 movies on Netflix. I enjoyed it very much. And, the high quality content looked very good. I didn't nitpick as much about the artifacts in the dark areas. The rest of the image looks good, and thats the main deal. watched a few older low-res movies and those were tolerable also.
There is definitely a very widely bunk ass selection of movies, but I found "diamonds in the rough" a few times and was surprised... and I very much enjoyed browsing the older spoof comedy type of genre, with stuff like American Pie etc. watched a few of those, some great stuff. Saw Bachelor Party for the first time. I never got to see that when I was younger because it was a 'grown ups' movie. What a riot! And also, I think the bunk ass movies are great for having a ladyfriend over, having some drinks, and needing the type of movie playing where neither of you cares what is going on in the movie

That may have been the first time I saw a nude scene. What is this tingling in my pants?

and, there is really no other way I would have ever been able to watch "Zombie Strippers", starring Jenna Jameson. albeit briefly.
