They wanna push as many people over to streaming only. This day was coming for a long time. Streaming is the future. Physical media for entertainment is on it's last breath.
What sux is that Netflix streaming is not on par with their DVD selection....however, it is pretty decent and I use it more than the DVD so more than likely I will drop DVD service.

I've actually been surrounded by Netflix and thinking about going for the stream subscription. Even though they don't have the latest and greatest, I've been overwhelmed by the selections already. Maybe it's just the initial excitement, but I've been streaming for the past week and loving it.
There's also a TON of selections for kids. My daughter is often occupied by Yo Gabba Gabba, Spongebob, Power Rangers, etc. This beats the crap out of me going out and rent movies for her.

I have been using the stream only service since signing up with Netflix about 6 months ago. The library is large enough to keep me entertained though I must say that I wish there was a way for me to watch Dexter season 3, Mad Men or Sparticus. I have been wanting to watch these shows for so long, and it seems that the only option I have is to either rent them disc by disc or buy the entire series at a local store.
Sux man...Can't wait for the day when everything is available for stream.

I'm taking the money they wanted for the DVD service and bumping up my Blockbuster Online account back to three discs at a time. I get movies earlier, and there's no upcharge for BluRay. I'd dump Netflix altogether if my AppleTV supported Blockbuster streaming.

Biggest problem with netflix is that they got so big so fast...the cable companies got jealous and put the screws down on the studios.
Netflix basically got cockblocked...shame too.

New releases are delayed on netflix, maybe some will never appear. My top 10 picks are always "Long Wait" (I'm being throttled mercilously). NF does not purchase enough disks. Red Box was faced with the same, and sent employees to Wal-Mart to buy at retail
Why NF is the darling of the stock market eludes me. They think they will win with the steaming, but all I see is risk with the studios and ISP. I know, NF has a buddy with a big pipe...

Looks like I'm getting rid of Netflix. I probably get 3-5 Bluray DVD's a month and RARELY stream any movies since their selection is :meh:
I'll start using redbox more.

It's most worth it for TV series. Watching an entire season of Lost, Dexter, Walking Dead on Bluray is awesome. I would keep NF soley for that.

Maybe it's just me but the selection of streaming shows/movies is more than enough. I'd have to watch Netflix all day everyday to run out

Even though the streaming doesn't have the latest stuff, I find that I use it more than the DVDs. It's not uncommon for a DVD to sit on the shelf for a couple months. My kids enjoy streaming to the iPad.

I wanted to switch to Hulu since I mostly stream TV shows anyways. However wife loves Netflix independent DVD by mail choices. Plus I believe Netflix has exclusive rights to Showtime shows like Californication, Weeds and now AMC's Mad Men. I heard they paid out of the ass in licensing fees for Mad Men.

I got this in an email from netflix today
There's a big difference between netflix and hulu plus, I have both. Hulu Plus is mainly TV with some movies and then their movie selection is pretty much horrible besides having the Criterion Collection which is awesome (I've been watching lots of those). Hulu is great at having last nights episodes on and being able to go back and watch an entire series of a show. Netflix is stronger in the movie dept and much weaker at streaming TV shows and even then it doesn't stream them until that season comes out on DVD while Hulu has the episodes up the next day.
I use both but use Hulu more for streaming and Netflix for DVDs/Blu-rays.
With Hulu I can watch the last nights episode of 30 rock, daily show, south park, etc. instead of waiting until the come out on dvd like netflix.
Of course you dont have to pay for hulu plus in order to get the latest episodes on hulu.com but if you want to watch them on a console or iDevice then you need a hulu plus account.
Your current $23.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs (including Blu-ray access) will be split into 2 distinct plans:
Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs (including Blu-ray), 3 out at-a-time (no streaming)
for $19.99 a month
Your price for getting both of these plans will be $27.98 a month ($7.99 + $19.99). You don't need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.
These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

Shows that are available in HD come through in HD no problem for me...
I'm hoping that this push to streaming jump starts the improvement in their streaming library. The way I figure it, they can't push people to streaming if they have a crappy library. People will just cancel and go elsewhere. That's the hope anyway
Same here. I started watching The Office from Season 1, Episode 1 a few months ago and I'm still going strong. Watch a couple with dinner, then a movie at night. Then go to bed and watch an American Dad, Futurama, or Family Guy. Rinse and repeat. I still have yet to finish any of the series. We also started watching 24 from Season 1 Episode 1.
We have Hulu+ as well. Probably should have canceled it over the summer since all shows are off, but at this point, we'll just keep it. But yeah, it's great to keep up with all of the current shows since we do not have cable or Sat. Between Netflix and Hulu we're at $16/mo and it has more then we need. I have an OTA antenna so we get all of the locals in HD so we don't miss any sports. For ESPN, just stream with ESPN3.com...

Honestly, the price change coming influenced me to finally review and be honest with myself on what I actually need. I HAD streaming and DVD 2 at a time and Blu Ray....
Sure I love the quality...but I only have my PS3 upstairs and most of the time I like watching movies in the living room. Sooo...last set of blurays that came in sat for 2 months until i finally brought the PS3 down. Streaming is cool...but if you have a DVR and OnDemand cable with movies etc...it's already included so it's not worth it to me.
I dropped down to 2 DVD's at a time with no bluray and no streaming. $11.99 a month. I could live with that!

There is plenty of content....but it all depends on what peeps like to watch.
I've seen soooo many fantastic documentaries thanks to Netflix streaming.

Yeah, for new movies they kind of suck, but we just go to Redbox for that as there is one (actually 2) pretty close. But at night or on the weekends we'll watch an older movie we've never seen or a movie we like but haven't seen in a while. So far most of those have been available. I also stream a lot of documentaries... so that works out well.

I'm going to switch to Blockbuster online. I don't stream, Blu-ray doesn't cost more, and I can return a mailed movie to the Blockbuster close to my house and exchange it for an in-store movie without any restriction on return date. They have a free 1 month trial so I'll see how it goes.
I'm sick of waiting for Just Go with It, Unknown, Eagle, Adjustment Bureau, 13 Assassins, Arthur, Limitless, Take Me Home Tonight, etc, etc.
