Sigh, I love how people still blame Netflix.
I wish I could find the article that spells it out for everyone.
Its the studios/distributors/cable companies that are putting the squeeze on companies like this one.
Netflix is trying to adapt to survive while getting screwed over at every corner. If said companies had their way, netflix would die a quiet death yesterday.

Netflix is getting put over a barrel for the rights. Everyone is asking for huge $$$$$. The Netflix pricing for plans was in place before everyone caught on to the greatness that is streaming. The old contracts for rights were dirt cheap, because nobody was sure if it would take off.
Now that physical media for film and TV for the consumer is near its end, the holders of the rights want HUGE coin to re-up with Netflix.
Netflix is not at fault here.....everyone else is to blame.
They now know what Netflix is doing is a cash cow, and they want it all to themselves....they don't want a single source for streaming.....now the consumer is going to either pay more for that single source (netflix), of have to pay for multiple sources.

How dare these companies try to make as much money as they can!!!!
Yea, it sucks for all of us, but can you blame them for trying to get as much coin as they can?
In the end it's their risk: Either they will make a lot of coin and the consumer will pay what they ask, or they will find out that the consumer will not pay, and they will lose out on huge $$$$.

But I see where they are going and why. Video games is probably a last ditch effort to save the physical media side of the company.

name.No doubt Netflix/Quixter would love to kill DVD/Bluray mail service, and stream everything, but the cost of streaming is costing them literally everything.

You are more of the exception to the rule in terms of customers for Netflix.
Most find that "HD" streaming is fantastic, and can't tell, or don't really care that it's not quite 1080p....and Dolby Digital 5.1 is more than plenty.
Once broadband speed gets better/more accessible and the content arrives, the resolution will follow. It's only a matter of time before bluray quality hits the stream.

Also fast forwarding and rewinding in streaming sucks ass. They'll need to do something about that too. And also selectable chapters.

The video game option may be worth it though. With most of my time being taken up by school, I don't have the time I used to to play video games. Being able to play a game through once and return it will allow me to catch up on my backlog. It just depends on how much they will charge.

Does the streaming quality also depend on your service/dl speed? I have a 50gb down service at home and my quality is much better on my tv than my friend has on his 5gb internet with us both having the same TV

If I want to watch shit that came out more than 3 years ago I wouldn't waste my money on the streaming but rather watch it on tv because I know it would be on tv sometime in the near future.
Until netflix streaming has the same movies available that are on their mail service, I'm sticking with the mail dvd service...

I was intent on keeping both Blu-Ray and streaming. However, I am not about to have to load content on two different sites. At this point, I am leaning toward discs only - but upgrading from one at a time to two at a time. I won't do Redbox or Blockbuster Express, since I don't want to shuttle back and forth to rent/retun OR be denied a movie because it is out of stock. I like loading the queue and having movies "magically appear" in the mailbox.
IMO, the quality of Blu-Ray absolutely blows streaming out of the water. It isn't even close on my 58" plasma with Bose Acoustimass.
For what it is worth, the new name "Quikster" is definitely weak. I think "QuikFlix" would have been a hell of a lot better.

Fast forwarding on netflix dvds also sucks though. For as long as I can remember, I can't skip through previews and all the bullshit before the movie or can't get to the main menu. I have to fast forward through all that crap. It sucks.

And while of course I would always prefer full 1080p quality...but story/content rules all...and 720 works for me for most things I sit to watch.
Anything I just have to have in bluray I buy.

Streaming content sucks donkeyballs. I primarily used the streaming to catch up Top Gear UK. I'm irritated enough as it is having to wait until Netflix drops Bridesmaids and X-Men First Class. and Quikster sounds like some instant hot cocoa or coffee brand. Nestea Quikster FTL.
