Google Maps 3.0 -- Google Latitude!

Have you guys tried this yet? Its pretty cool!

www.google.com/latitude/intro.html

Its essentially a friend tracking feature.

As of right now, it works on the following devices:

Google Latitude is a feature of Google Maps for mobile on these phones:
* Android-powered devices, such as the T-Mobile G1
* iPhone and iPod touch devices (coming soon)
* most color BlackBerry devices
* most Windows Mobile 5.0+ devices
* most Symbian S60 devices (Nokia smartphones)
* many Java-enabled (J2ME) mobile phones, such as Sony Ericsson devices (coming soon)

Give Big Brother the power... I'm sure he won't ever abuse it.

Actually, it is cool and you're supposed to be able to select who can track you. You can even allow it to only track your city and not "exact" location.

Just wait, though. It will get tied into location based advertising.

Well, yeah you have to allow for people to track you.

I think it can be very useful, especially when you want to meet up with some people that tend to move around a lot. Haha.

Waiting for my iPhone friends to get on it...

Honestly, comments like these don't make any sense to me. You have to approve friend requests so why would it be 'too much'? if you don't want some individuals to be on your list, just don't add them.

It sounds wonderful until someone forces Google to cooperate with law enforcement.

You act like these phones GPS on it already. This is just another app that uses the feature.

If they wanted to find you, they don't need google.

^ Haha yeah thats true. Plus, as long as your phone is on, "they" can triangulate your location based on which cell towers you're connected to (yes, just like on TV). Thats how some phones have faux-GPS functionality.

Anyway, anyone on this?

GMM can't use my UNLOCKED GPS on my Storm for some reason. People think it's because Verizon chose Microsoft as their official search. There are some really remedial navigation programs that are able to use the Storm's GPS, but for some reason a program made by the Google Gods can't use it.

I tried it on my E71. It worked, although when linked to maps.google.com (the website),
it didn't seem to update my position real-time. I drove around the block and they didn't see me moving.

Especially with a real GPS on your phone, there are loads of use for this.
Ever try to find someone in the middle of a huge park?

^ Haha

Yeah I'm using it on my E71 as well. The GPS seems to connect faster than my N82.
