well as of now i have been refunded and my order is placed for shipping...
and my and my co-worker were talking about it as we placed our orders..
did apple really ever say you had to "choose" to get either or, all i can see on their website is the seperate areas where you get your refund, and the other where it tells you the process of ordering a case... neither says you cant participate if you've done the other...
free case..

If that's the case then I'm gonna walk into the apple store with my receipt and hopefully they refund my cash. Then I will try to get a free case from The app.

Apple Takes on Droid X With Latest Smartphone Antenna Video
Friday July 23, 2010 06:54 PM EST; Category: iPhone
Written by Eric Slivka
After its iPhone 4 press conference last week, Apple posted a new smartphone antenna performance page on its site highlighting how several other smartphones experience similar decreases of signal bars to that of the iPhone 4. The page initially featured phones from Research in Motion, HTC, and Samsung, as well as the iPhone 3GS. Earlier this week, Apple added the Nokia N97 mini to the page after that company publicly responded to Apple's claims of antenna issues with other smartphones.
Not content to stop there, Apple has posted yet another smartphone signal attenuation video to its feature page and YouTube site, this time targeting Motorola's just-released Droid X. The video shows the Droid X dropping from three signal bars to zero when gripped in the hand in a manner similar to the "death grip" frequently cited as inducing the issue on the iPhone 4.
The featuring of the Droid X is significant, as the device has been seen as the latest strong competitor for the iPhone. The Android-based phone has seen strong initial sales, with Motorola and Verizon struggling to keep up with demand. Apple is no doubt targeting the Droid X as it seeks to bolster its claims that the vast majority of smartphones, including many of the most popular ones, suffer from the same issue as the iPhone 4.

Just glad to say that thanks to my work boosting its discount up by over double, I will now have an iPhone 4 here shortly for just $70/month (450 minutes, 2GB Data, Unlimited Text). This actually beats my current Blackberry Storm by around $10/month & pretty much makes the iPhone the most affordable smartphone for me at this time.
So, I will soon be seeing what all the "fuss" is about.

So the white iPhone is delayed yet again until later this year... Say it comes out in December. You can't wait another six months for the iPhone 4s or 5 or whatever that will have some hardware changed for sure.

Well I pulled the trigger. It wasn't an iPhone even though I reaaly like the iPhone 4 and my iPad.
So what am I stuck with for the next two years... another Samsung. This time the Samsung Captivate. The iPhone has a better display, which honestly was almost the entire selling point for me to get an iPhone, and a better camera (not a big factor as I seldom take pic or vids with a phone). Antennagate and prox sensors issues were concerns, but not the deal breakers.
Here were the dealbreakers:
1) The Capt's display is 4 inches and close in resolution to the iPhone
2) For $199 (same price as 16G iPhone) I can upgrade with a cheap external mem to 32G (much cheaper than the $299 32G iphone)
3) No change in my data plan. I still have $10 family data unlimited. With the iPhone, I'd be in for an additional $15 a month for 2GB. Since both are WiFi, this is a plus for both.
4) The android system will be new for me, but ATT has the brakes on really using the OS to the max. Of course Apple is sorta the same, so this spec is neutral.
5) All my current chargers (car and travel) for my Samsung Enternity should work with the Capt.
6) The Capt. has a replaceable battery which means I can get an extra and rotate out. The iPhone sucks in this regard.
7) I retain my ATT state employee discount.
So basically, I'll save $100 on the difference on the phones and $15 a month on the dataplan to get me $280 savings in year one. If the new iPhone introduced in 2011 turns out to be so much better, I can break my contract for about $225 (which I already saved $280) and jump to the iPhone in July 2011.

you know alot of people criticize the iPhone for the non user replaceable battery.
i want to know how many of those people actually have a 2nd battery, and how many of them actually carry it around with them.

Its such a nightmare at times to limit my data usage in fear of draining my iphone un a setting where i cant charge it..
My old phone id just run dead an pop a battery in.

Okay - say I order an iPhone today from Apple. I want to get in on the free case deal. Do I have to wait until the phone arrives, download the app, and apply for a case? Then wait another month until the case arrives? Or can I order the phone and somehow order the free case with it?

Would like to know as well, since I'm pretty sure I'll be set on buying a nice case to go with the phone at purchase.

You may be correct, but the ATT rep said that state discounts plans can retain the old data plan. So I'll see soon enough. As a last resort, I could always spoof the IMEI to a 1988 StarTAC.
At any rate, the ATT saleperson said if he could buy anyphone in the store, he'd take the Captivate over any including the iPhone. Of course, maybe he gets a better commission percentage on the Samsung.
I ordered online, so I won't get it until the first of the week. I'll put it through its paces and if I don't like it I return it in 30 days to get a iPhone, my second choice.

So I'd count on two to three weeks without your free bumper.
#4587
I went through the entire order process last night until the final "submit" for the iPhone, and no time was I ever asked about a bumper/case. I believe you get the iPhone, activate it on iTunes, and download a bumper app. From there, you get to choose and wait for it to be shipped out to you address.
So I'd count on two to three weeks without your free bumper.

I placed my order yesterday. The chick at AT&T was still saying 7-10 days, so we shall see. She told me that they wouldn't actually charge my credit card until they shipped it, but they already charged the card, so I don't really know. I really don't think she knew what she was talking about the whole way through.

Well I got a email from ATT directing me to my new Customer Service Summary.
In short nothing has changed except for: It shows the new equipment, the $18 upgrade fee, but the old $10 data plan.
I printed out a bunch of copies in case I get stuck with alot of data bytes and no plan.
I'm gambling on the following for flying under the radar of a new dataplan:
1) This is the second line of a family plan
2) The account is a discount state account and,
3) I plan to insert my old SIM, at first, to get my contact info. If the phone continues to work and ATT doesn't change my equipment icon on My Account page, then I will leave everything alone and see what happens.
At any rate, I finally get ride of the phone that you have to beat against the palm of your hand sometimes to place a call. YAY!

^ Sorry the above post left out what I wanted to say about the iPhone.
I tried to go through the Apple store after ordering the Captivate and get an iPhone at a contract price as well. Well their system seems to be a bit more coordinated than a launch, because I got a message that their was a problem upgrading this account at this time.
Oh well... I thought it would be cool to get the Captivate and the iPhone at $199 each and rotate SIMS.
