That's what's I did with my old original iPhone.
Just popped in the sim from my current phone and disabled data.

Easy enough, thanks

If u jailbreak it all u have to do if any warranty stuff is faulty just update the phone back to any original settings and take it bAck for repair all my iPhones have been jailbroken and I never had a problem when I took it back for repair after resetting it to original! I don't think there us a way to find if it has been jailbroken in the past! By the way I luv my iPhone 4! Just ordered my free case yesterday!

i think with some jailbreaks where it doesnt update the baseband when you upgrade to a newer firmware, that might be a give away that its been jailbroken.

but other than that if you give them a freshly restored phone with no back up synced to it. yea dont think they can figure it out.

From what I've read any iPhone, even if you swap in the sim after registering a dumbphone, will be detected via the IMEI on it and you'll get a text upgrading you automatically to a data plan. Not sure which plan but the cheaper one is $15/mo on top of the voice and text.

More likely you didn't get caught. They've been doing IMEI checks since at least 2007.

Yeah if you go to cell phone forums especially howardforums it seems to be the norm of getting caught with iphones or other ATT-branded phones. It's too common to get caught if you don't want to pay it. It's all I kept reading when I was considering a Nokia unlocked.

family plan > flying under the radar.

i pay $62 a month on my iphone.. and really could make it less($52) with no harm to my usage.

my understanding is that the white iphone 4 is now delayed even longer and there is not ETA - correct? i was holding out for a white one but now may just get the black one due to the wait...

The latest possible reason is light leakage from the backlight for the LCD.

Apple Looking Into Reports of Problems With iOS 4 on iPhone 3G
Wednesday July 28, 2010 04:40 PM EST; Category: iPhone
Written by Eric Slivka
The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is "looking into" reports of issues being experienced by iPhone 3G users who have upgraded to the company's new iOS 4. Discussion forums at Apple, MacRumors, and elsewhere have been filling with reports from users experiencing problems with system responsiveness, battery drains, and overheating.
The most common criticism is that the phone is slow after an upgrade. There are also many complaints that the phone drains the battery quickly and becomes excessively hot. Concern about general problems such as slowness and battery life on gadgets isn't unusual, but using iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G seems to make the problems so bad that the phone is nearly unusable for some people.

In venting their frustration, some users have even gone so far as to create parody videos demonstrating the iPhone 3G's inability to run iOS 4 smoothly.

Meanwhile, some reports have indicated that iOS 4.1, currently in beta testing by developers, will address these issues to some degree.

Apple has made clear since the initial introduction of iOS 4 in April that the new operating system is not fully compatible with all generations of the iPhone and iPod touch due to hardware limitations, with only limited compatibility for the iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod touch suggesting that those models are being pushed to their limits with some of iOS 4's features. Users, however, understandably expected that Apple's steps to disable certain resource-intensive features on those devices should have left the remaining features operating relatively smoothly. That does not, however, appear to be the case for some users.

ok...

just noticed that i am now having the proximity sensor issue.

like i can notice the screen turning off and on when its near my face and i adjust the angle i hold the phone to my face.

if i press it up to the face, the display is off.
if i slightly tilt the bottom away, the display will turn on
if i slightly tilt the top away, the display will turn on.

it seems like the distance for the proximity sensor to turn off the display is really short.

^Annoying as FUCK isn't it! Just wait till the phone becomes unusable due to your face constantly hitting buttons, it's soooo magical!

The more and more I hear, the more I think I'm just going to wait for the iPhone 5 or see what else is out there when my contract is up. At least if I wait, I won't have to jump through hoops and find loopholes or pay extra to get an upgrade.

Yeah I pretty much gave up on trying to sell my 3GS. I wasn't too motivated to sell it to begin with and I've resisted asking two of my friends and my cousin to let me play with their iPhone 4's. I simply admire it from afar as to not get suckered into upgrading

The dev team needs to get on the ball and figure out how to strip multitasking away from iOS4+ on the 3GS and I'll be golden.

I've used my sister and my two friends' iPhone 4s multiple times. While the screen itself WOWs me..... nothing else does. I've tried Facetime a couple of times. Logged my friend out of all his social networking accounts and used my logins instead and tried the multitasking. It indeed is faster, but it doesn't blow me away like the Droid Incredible did.

Hey what's wrong with iOS 4.0's multitasking feature? I thought this would be a good thing?

yeah I got some buddies with 4.0 3G phones and they hated it. As soon as 4.1 comes out will you 3Gers get it?

Mr. Would, do you get annual contracts? You could go Captivate and try Android for a year.

they want real multitasking.

the kind that keeps the entire program running in the background. and chews up more battery.

I'd just like the option to choose when I want to leave an app hanging in the background, and when to completely close it.

This seems to have vastly improved the performance of iOS4 on my 3G. Granted I'm not a regular user of the search feature.

I should just turn it off on my 4 as well. I never use it.
I also don't like that i have to swipe left to get to it.
Would be nice if it was on the home screen. Just below the status bar. But above the first set of apps.

I wonder if turning it off on the 4 would speed it up even more.

so.. basically there's no real disable option, but you just uncheck everything?
i gave it a try
haven't noticed much difference
actually.. opening up contacts it took few extra seconds than usual
maybe disabling slows down my 3GS -_-

You have to hard reset 2x.

The one where you hold power and home until it powers off w/o sliding.

so what's the catch behind hard reset twice? why doesn't once do its job?

That hard reset has saved my ass on my 3GS a few times. You can do that to turn on the phone when it doesn't wanna turn on.

I'm wondering if I should go from my 3G to a 3GS or straight to a 4. If I go for a 4 it'll most likely be a couple weeks before they're back in stock, they just came out in Canada today.

Hmmm...

....it would be nice if Apple's OS was open source, like Android... the new AD 2.2 for the EVO is already being tuned by devs... and with sometime daily tweaks, they are beasts!
