Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread

Yeah honestly not much of a difference. Sometimes iOS 4 was a little faster and sometimes iOS 3 was a little faster. I'd probably give the slight edge to iOS 3 but the iOS 4 did have desktop background enabled and multitasking, though my iOS3 had backgrounder running. I'm sure she'll be fine with it cause she's coming from a BB curve and a sidekick so she doesn't know any better.

The truth comes out....sort of.
So AT&T claims that they average 1.44 dropped calls per hundred. So if we look back at Apple's presentation last week and if we were to assume that the iPhone 3GS was an about average phone on AT&T's network in regards to dropped calls then I think Steve's claim that the iPhone 4 drops less than one call more per hundred really puts it into perspective that this iPhone 4 and this antenna issue is significantly worse than the 3GS. Now I'm going to assume that the >1 number is probably between .80 and .99, I just think if it was around .75 or less than .5 they wouldn't have overstated with >1 call per hundred. Or the iPhone can be much worse than other phones on the network at dropping calls and it really hasn't been AT&Ts fault all along
Either way you look at it it doesn't make Apple look good. Either the iPhone has sucked all along at making calls or just the iPhone 4 is much worse than the 3GS at making calls and Apple was trying to distort the truth to make it not look so bad. Or AT&T is lying about the whole thing, you decide.

Good article from Wired talking about Apple and AT&Ts relationship and how it's changed over time. If you like behind the tech scenes drama, you'll like this article.

Well her phone was already on 3.1.3 and I knew there wasn't an unlock so I waited for iOS 4. Honestly iOS 4 doesn't seem that bad compared to how slow my 3G is on iOS 3. Maybe she got a Sarlacc 3G and everything always works great on it. IDK, I'm charging up my own 3G which is on 3.1.3 and I'm going to do a comparasion, maybe I'll record it with the iPhone 4. I did do a complete restore on her phone before install iOS 4 so IDK if that helped that she was starting new.
But I'm happy with 3.1.2

Old 3G lying around? Use it for your active mp3 player like if you jog or bike. I'd hate to drop my 3GS while jogging so I was going to use my Sammy Impression. But of course the POS screen froze up.
#4527
i'm still using a 3G with 3.1.2.
since the jailbreak, it runs a bit slower, but still bearable. if i can find a good deal on a 3GS (16gb or 32gb) i'd probably pick one up. people are still charging too much for them around here though

forgot all about that...
its extremely shitty that you'll still have to buy the colored bumpers b/c even when they start giving the things out they wont have colors in stock..

Well, I want something a bit more than the bumper. Don't get me wrong, I'm requesting my 1 free bumper.
The back of my phone already has a bunch of scratches and I've been careful with it!! I suppose the bumper will be enough to hold it off most surfaces...but I dunno.

Wellll, I thought I was going to go to AT&T to order an iPhone.. That was until I heard that Samsung has released the Captivate. I did a little research on the phone and it does not look too bad.
I went over to AT&T today to check it out in person and now I have absolutely no idea which phone I want.
I hate this.

Went to the Apple store last night and played with it again. I'm sold.
Now if only I could find one. That Apple store is about two weeks backordered or more. Apple.com says 3 weeks backordered. AT&T.com says "7-14 days," local AT&T store says "sometime in August, not sure." Radioshack says "30 people on the waiting list, don't know when we get more." Walmart is all around clueless. I wonder which place would really be the fastest.

Users of iOS 4 on both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS say their handset has constantly dropped wireless Bluetooth connections with both headsets and in-car systems.
Numerous users contacted AppleInsider to say that they have experienced a number of problems specific to iOS 4 with Bluetooth connectivity. A number of people who upgraded their iPhone 3GS found that their phone's Bluetooth became problematic, even though it worked fine before the iOS 4 update. And others who bought a new iPhone 4 have encountered some of the same issues.
"Nearly every time I'm in my car the iPhone disconnects from the built-in Bluetooth system," one reader with an iPhone 4 wrote. "This never, ever happened with my 3G phone. I have a case number with AppleCare and they refuse to acknowledge the problem or replace the phone, even after having the problem persist after downloading a fresh copy of IOS 4, reinstalling the software and setting the phone up bare with no other apps. Could this be another antenna problem?"
In numerous threads on the official Apple Discussions forums, users have shared similar problems (1, 2, 3, 4). Those threads have only grown since iOS 4 and the iPhone 4 were released in late June.
Users have said that their Bluetooth connections will sporadically drop after the two devices are successfully paired. Others can connect, but are met with a message that says "no media found" when trying to play music. And some said they have experienced muffled voices when placing a call over Bluetooth.
Some users on the forums noted that the recent iOS 4.0.1 update did not fix the Bluetooth issues. The minor update featured a cosmetic fix that changed how the iPhone reports bars of signal strength.
The Bluetooth pairing issues are said to exist across a range of devices, including vehicles from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, car stereos from Pioneer and Alpine, and headsets from Motorola and Jawbone.
Some said they have fixed the problem by resetting the phone's settings. This can be done by launching the Settings application, choosing General, Reset, and Reset All Settings. Interestingly, the same fix was said to work for some who experienced issues with the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4. Apple has said it is working on a software fix for the proximity sensor problems with the iPhone 4, but has made no mention of the reported Bluetooth problems.

Actually 1/2 the time (for two phones and two cars on IOS 4) it never connects when the car turns on, you need to manually go into General, Settings, Bluetooth and hit the connection to get it back. Never happened with IOS 3

no issue with pairing on my 4.
but you know, i may have that issue with muffled sound.
i was making a call to my sister and she said my voice was muffled and could barely hear me.
there was one other time i was making a call, but the girl on the other end didn't say anything so

I haven't had any dropped calls on BT, or pairing issues.
And I got my refund.
Also, my case from BoxWave got here too. It's not bad, certainly not bad for $3.50 shipped. Would I pay full price? Probably not. But at least I can plug it into the car without removing the bumper now.

I haven't noticed any pairing issues with iOS4 and my BMW. Only "odd" thing I've noticed is that in previous OS versions, the phone and "ringer" in the car would go off simultaneously. Since the upgrade, my phone will ring once or twice, then the car will go.
Not a big deal, but clearly something changed with the BT stack.

I noticed that as well. I also need to turn the buzz off while ringing, because I'm wondering WTF is wrong with my car, then I realize that someone's calling.
They made that speaker fucking loud this time.

This was my free case from BoxWave:
It's not horribly done. And at $10 vs $30 for most cases, it's a relative deal. Fit and finish could be better. The bumper is better, but it's annoying not being able to tell the difference between the front and back in my pocket, and the hole for the dock connector is stupidly small. I dunno. Giving the Rhino case a run for this weekend.

I was thinking the "Incase Snap Case for iPhone 4" because it's perforated. I noticed my phone gets hot at times.
Hmm...
Edit: Nevermind.
