Apple: iPad News and Discussion Thread
There's a report that Verizon is saying Wednesday going to be a big day for them. I predict no iPhone and this Jesus Tablet will be available on Verizon. I think their network is better suited for a data only device than AT&T's, while AT&T is better for a voice/data device.
That's what I don't get yet. How does this thing fit in between a smart phone and a laptop and are people willing to for yet another data plan (may not be required). This isn't supposed to be something that will fit in your pocket so it'd have to go in a bag much like a laptop. So then there has to be a compelling reason to choose this OVER a laptop and seems like one hell of a hard sell to me. Why not get the best of both worlds with a laptop that converts into a tablet like the HP tm2t

my roommate got one about 1.5 years ago. the screen sucked ass because of the anti scratch coating they had to use for the resistive touch screen.
there's a hack to enable it now for free which my dad uses all the time. Other than that currently there's no official tethering option but I believe AT&T charges $30 for tethering on their other devices.
Don't know yet. But everyone's giving them the benefit of the doubt since he did invent the friggin iPod and iPhone, have you heard of them!?!?!?!?!?
Here's a demo of what a magazine may look like on a Tablet but they're using an older version of the tablet I showed in the post above so that kind of makes this device's point moot. soooo.....

Yeah that free hack I posted on here a while back...good luck with that....when I went to next OS update that disabled it fubared my software, had to reinstall.
I used it for a while on OS 3.0 but when I upgraded to 3.1 I lost it but I hear it's back in 3.1. My voicemail still doesn't work with 3.1 though, google voice kinda fills in the gap though. My dad hasn't upgraded to 3.1 and isn't going to upgrade.

Blow your OS away and start clean and it will all work again.
Apple iPad Pricing and Availability: $600-$1000, March 1st?

According to a (now deleted) tweet by major German electronics retailer Media Markt, the Apple iPad will go on sale March 1st at a price of 499 Euros with contract with T-Mobile or 899 Euros without. In U.S. prices this would likely be around $500-$600 U.S. with contract and $999 without. We came to these numbers by comparing similarly priced Apple items sold in Euros and USD (Mac Mini: 549 Euros / $599 USD, MacBook 899 Euros / $999 USD).
The company, however, quickly deleted the tweet but not before it was retweeted a number of times. NetbookNews.de also picked up on the story and seems to believe that Media Markt would be in a position to know this information. The German site tells us that Media Markt is the biggest German electronics chain akin to Best Buy in the U.S., and has a dedicated Apple section.
Given Apple's secrecy, however, we're not convinced Apple would reveal such information to their retail partners ahead of the official announcement. That said, it's possible that mobile carriers such as T-Mobile have been briefed already due to the carrier agreements that must be put into place. Apple's Media event takes place Wednesday, January 27th.

Not to be forgotten HP has just released a video on their HP Slate device talking about how they've been working on it for years so people won't think it's a knee jerk reaction to all the apple tablet rumors.
This is the same thing MS did with they announced the Surface Table (big ass iPhone) just before the iPhone launched, they put up a webpage talking about how long they've been working on the device, etc. MS did the same thing this year at CES when talking about Project Natal cause they don't want people to thing it's a reaction due to the success of the Wii even though it is. Interesting that HP is talking about the supposed market between the smartphone and the netbook/notebook that these slate devices are supposed to fit into.

fuck a $1000!? Why would you pay that much and choose this device over a Macbook or any other kickass laptop? Even at $600 with yet another data plan you can get a kickass thin and light laptop. Or if you add this as a companion to your iPhone doesn't it become just like the Palm Foleo. I hope he makes a good case for this product cause I'm not seeing, though I haven't given up on it. I just can't figure it out right now. What does this thing DO!?!?!? I WANT TO KNOW NOW!!!
