Apple: iPad News and Discussion Thread

Cuz, you're making the iPad 2 seem like it has an inferior display compared to the new device...
do the math. I had old and new side by side and my start screen was so much better with the new.
Does anyone know if the iPad2 power support screen filters are the exact same that is needed for the iPad3? I'm guessing they are, just want to ask before I order an iPad2 protector because power support hasn't yet updated their site for the iPad3. I would have thought they would have been more prepared for this.

It is a beautiful screen and at the time the iPad 2 screen looked good too, but the glare is too much for me. I need to have an anti-glare filter on it to make it easier to read the books that I do on it.
I'm gonna give it a try without the protector for a week or two and see how it goes. If it really starts to bug me again I'll do it; otherwise I may leave it as is.

@ the "new" camera in the new iPad.
The most interesting -- though perhaps unsurprising -- discovery is that Apple has apparently reused cameras from prior products for both the front and rear cameras on the new iPad. The rear camera, pictured above, appears to be the same 5 megapixel CMOS Image Sensor that was used in the iPhone 4.
That unit was the Omnivision OV5650. The OV5650 is the second generation back illumination (BI) technology from OmniVision. This 5 Mp camera features 1.75 µm pixels, and is designed to deliver DSC quality in a mobile phone application. The sensor supports HD (1080p) video at 60 fps. Apple specifications for the new iPad also tout the same specification. So the analysis we have just completed… drum roll please... says that the 5 Mp back illuminated CMOS Image Sensor in the new iPad is the same, it is the Omnivision OV5650 (die mark OV290BF)
The front camera in the new iPad is the 0.3 megapixel Omnivision OV297AA unit seen previously in the iPad 2 and the old camera-equipped iPod Nano. Chipworks notes that this isn't the first time Apple has recycled parts into new products, and that the strategy keeps costs and technological risks low.
Also the speaker is much louder than the iPad 2, maybe not as loud as the OG iPad but a def improvement. Seems like the thinner it gets the worse the sound. I used to have to cup the speaker grill with my hand on the 2 to make it louder, not anymore!
Still bugs the crap out of me that the speaker location is pointing the speaker away from the user.
I have a 46 HD Sammy getting HD 1080p on certain channels. For some strange reason, I prefer my Sammy 25in cathray on the non HD channels.
The colors are more bright on the HD set, but I honestly can't tell a big "wow" factor.
Old eyes I guess.

Unless of course the serial number is on the original receipt. Just a hypothetical idea.
How bad is it?
I'm curious if this iPad takes a lot longer to charge or if this ipad has a stronger charger. The ipad 2 had 25Whr battery while this has a 42.5Whr. If it has the same charger it's going to take about 70% longer to charge....

Actually I am a little serious. Someone may think you bought a refurb rather than you bought it new if/when you try selling it say a year from now when the ipad4 comes out.
