MacBook Air Upgrades Said to Include Up to 8 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD
Jun 11, 2012 7:36 am PDT by Eric Slivka
9to5Mac reports that it has received information on the MacBook Air upgrades to be announced today, with each of the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch sizes arriving in two standard configurations with a third customizable high-end configuration also heading into stock at some retailers.

According to the report, the initial model descriptions include not only a boost in processor performance to Intel's latest Ivy Bridge processors but also boosts to RAM (maxing out at 8 GB on both sizes) and solid-state drive capacity (maxing out at 512 GB on the 13-inch model). The descriptions include model number, short product name, screen size, processor speed in GHz, RAM in GB, and storage size in GB.
11-inch
Base Model: MD223LL/A - MBA 11.6/1.7/4/64FLASH-USA
Better: MD224LL/A - MBA 11.6/1.7/4/128FLASH-USA
High End: MD845LL/A – MBA 11.6/2.0/8/256FLASH-USA

13-inch
MD231LL/A – MBAIR 13.3/1.8/4/128FLASH-USA
MD232LL/A – MBAIR 13.3/1.8/4/256FLASH-USA
MD846LL/A – MBAIR 13.3/2.0/8/512FLASH-USA

The current MacBook Air includes 2 GB of RAM on the base 11-inch model, with all other models at both screen sizes offering 4 GB of RAM. On the storage side, it appears that the 11-inch model will not be seeing any changes given that the existing line starts at 64 GB and goes up to 256 GB at the high end, but the new 13-inch model is shown as introducing a new 512 GB option at the high end.

We also asked 9to5Mac about the implausible Mac Pro specs they published earlier today, and they assured us that those are indeed the specs that are showing up in inventory systems. Consequently, it remains unclear exactly what is going on with the Mac Pro and whether there might be errors or purposely incorrect information being provided by Apple.

You need one???

I bet your current iMac is still newer then mine (1st get aluminum)...Image how I feel now that my new camera take 40mb files per image!!! And its been choking a lot lately.

sadly, because of my new camera and other gear, I can't afford anything.

Thankfully my MBP can handle it...barely.

Yeah, I sold my Hackintosh and i'm now running on my MBP. I know the iMac is overdue for a refresh and I'm hoping to get one with a decent graphics card.

As far as the rumors say, everything will get a refresh except the Mac mini.

I still can't decide if having 2 computers is the way to go anymore...or consolidate both my laptop and iMac in a really good laptop with an apple thunderbolt monitor/dock.

Problem is I don't think I want to go back to a laptop larger than 13" I really love the size of my 13"...and I love my mother inlaws 11" MBA even more. They just can't handle some of the files Im starting to get into...even though I won't be using it for that kind of work all too often...its enough to kill me when I do.

I could start using my iPad more...as much as I don't mind typing on it...I prefer a laptop when Im surfing forums.

$100 itunes gift card for a new Mac purchase.

Free iPod was a better deal. You could've flipped them for more than $100. AAPL's getting cheaper and greedier each year.

A real Apple gift card to use in store would have been better.

This isn't the first year they offered the GC. Iirc last year was.

But yes if you intend to resel the iPod, it was a better deal.

But the GC is nice so you can get some apps for your Mac or music

Yes, I know the GC started last year. Sad they're continuing it though.

But a $100 Apple GC that can be used at the Apple store would be better. You could use it toward other Apple hardware or accessories instead of stupid apps, music, videos, etc. Probably better margins for Apple this way...

Yeah...apple is TOTALLY getting cheaper because they used to give away older gen iPods as a buying incentive and now they don't.

how dare they.

I'm thinking of a 13" MBP. And then the thunderbolt display.

As much as I like my iPad, yea surfing the forums isn't so great on it. Plus my PC is due for retirement (6 years old now)

They might have been "older gen", but that free iPod Touch retailed for $200.

$200 > $100
