I'm very excited about the enhancements to the Mac Mini lineup. I've been holding out on getting one because I was waiting for a speed bump. wasn't expecting it to be an increase in filepsace though. You can now get it with a 2.66 processor and get it in a server configuration with 2x500GB hard drives. now if they only got smart and provided it in a micro-atx format and retained the optical drive and labled that as a "Mac" as the little brother to the "Mac Pro"

Only thing that interests me is the multi touch mouse. but then I think most consumers would rather have a multi-touch monitor than a mouse. But the iMac or any other mac doesn't have that but there's a crap ton of cheaper PCs that will have multi-touch monitors in two days. This is Apple's response to Windows 7 and it's weak.

I can see the microsoft commercials now. Some couple goes into Best buy looking for a new PC. They see all the new PCs that have multi-touch capability, they have fun laughing and giggling with them, pinching and zooming, the whole nine. Then they say lets go check out the macs, they walkup to the iMac and touch it's screen and nothing happens it doesn't do shit. Then they see the price tag! It's almost twice as much as the ones over there with multi-touch. Then they say 'why would anyone buy a mac?". Apple =

Big Block go VROOOM!
For all the hoopla multi-touch displays are getting from the Microsoft world, I have yet to see anything beyond basic scrolling or page changing that I would call legitimately useful. Until that happens, I'll prefer to keep my hands placed on the keyboard or mouse where scrolling or page changing are concerned thank you very much.

I bought a Macbook in mid 06 and the hard drive crapped out mid 09, the battery was toast, the screen had a scratch(my fault, but adds to making the repair a waste) and it only had 1GB or ram. If this one literally dies in 3 years I won't be buying another Apple. As others have said there are comparable and arguably better machines out there for less money, I like the finish and operation of a Mac, but I can run the Apple OS or Linux on virtually any modern computer, if I'm paying a premium I expect premium or I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Now I can see a definite multi-touch use for developing in Adobe Flash. Oh man I can picture it now being able to just touch frames, move objects, resize them, etc. There are definite benefits to going to multi-touch for businesses, not so much for consumers.

That's what I'm hoping, I have no problem upgrading every few years, but a computer that dies with no warning is just a plain hassle. I had 95% of the content backed up, but lost 5% and a couple of frustrating days figuring out what to buy. I also didn't have the luxury of waiting a month for the new Macbook Pro's which came out just over a month after I bought my iMac, I would have much preferred another laptop. I like the iMac, don't get me wrong, it's a great computer and can see using it for a long time, but now I need to build a hackintosh netbook for mobile use, instead of one computer for all of it.

If they did it last week or the week before I wouldn't have said anything but two days before. And it's not just Windows 7 it is the ton of new PCs launching on the 22nd as well. you know the 95% of the PC industries big day is in two days and Apple being about 4% is trying to get their two days of glory before it's too late. Maybe they'll release a couple more anti-vista ads while they still can.

Wait, no pinch zoom on the mouse? Isn't pinch the #1 use for multitouch?

That said, there's a substantial difference between a trackpad where your thumb is already in place for a gesture and a mouse where you'd consciously have to move your thumb up to the multitouch surface.

I never said that. I said "They see all the new PCs that have multi-touch capablitity" not "They see that all PCs have multi-touch capability". there's a difference. Anyways there's gonna be a lot coming out, I'd say on average 3 models from each manufacturer. Off the top of my head I can think of 4 from HP, 3 from Dell, 2 from Sony, 3 from Gateway, 3 from Acer. Most of them under $1000.

Perhaps I'm missing out on some new superb way of reading my email using multi-touch. Then again, some spam messages would be mighty nice in multi-touch.

yeah there's no use for multi-touch in PCs, none

So then the multi-touch on the iPhone for browsing the internet and checking email is a novelty? Oh of course it's not it's from Apple. What about this supposed 10in screen Apple multi-touch tablet that will becoming out soon that everyone is so excited about. It's going to be the savior. But if you put multi-touch in a 10in netbook/tablet then it's useless. Slap an Apple logo on the back and it's the greatest thing ever.

Multi-touch would be great for gaming and photo viewing too just as it is on the iPhone/iTouch. So I'm really not seeing your point. If multi-touch is great on the iPhone for internet, email, photos, games. Why wouldn't it be for netbooks, tablets, laptops, desktops? From what I've seen from people who've actually used a multi-touch PC it's natural and intuitive. That's why they call it a Natural User Interface. You don't use a small handheld device to control an object you touch it and make it do what you want.
