Military spec rugged Android phone coming to Verzion
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/26/r...izon-on-april/
We knew it was coming, and now it's official: Casio's macho G'zOne Commando is coming to Verizon on April 28th for a price of $200 on-contract. The Commando strays from a long line of durable dumbphones, and is the first ruggedized Android handset on Verizon's network. In addition to meeting 810G military specifications for water, dust, shock, vibration, salt fog, solar radiation, and temperature extremes, it runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) and has a 3.6-inch (480 x 800) display, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, microSD slot, WiFi, stereo Bluetooth, and a hotspot feature allowing it to share its 3G connection with up to five devices. And, being built like a tank, it also bundles a handful of apps for outdoorsy types, including a compass, pedometer, star gazer, and thermometer. If you've never handled a rugged smartphone, you'll get your chance Thursday when it hits Verizon retail stores. Until then, check out the PR after the break for more details.
Looks like the ASUS Transformer is already sold out everywhere. Gotta try your luck at Best Buy. Either ASUS is really short on supplies on this device or its selling like hotcakes. According to Modaco though, you should install his recovery and root before you boot the device:
"If you're buying a Transformer, you should probably install my custom recovery and a custom ROM before you even boot it. If you don't......the device may auto-update and prevent you getting root!"

If you guys aren't familiar with Modaco, he's been around since the WM days. Might want to read up on XDA on how to root this thing.

Ya. I'm starting to think this was marketing scheme by ASUS. Create more demand by only releasing 1,000 units that way everybody thinks it's a hot item and sold out quickly. I checked all the links they on their site at 7am CST and they were ALL sold out. I went to best buy and the dudes there had no clue what I was talking about (not that that is saying much).
Pretty disappointed in the way ASUS has handled this (whether it be a scheme or piss poor planning). Now I might as well wait a month or two for all the other tablets to be released.
Samsung Epic 4G Gingerbread leaked:

A lot of stuff not working though which I'm sure they can sorta hack to work the next couple of days.
Supposedly this is coming out early June officially. After the HTC Evo 3D is released. At least that's the rumor. The good news is at least you know its coming.

- 4G non-functional
- GPS non-functional
- Wake lag present
- Does not boot when plugged in and powered off, unplug to boot
- Temperature sensor readings are incorrect. You may see interrupted charging due to bad battery temp readings.
- Slide to unlock button sometimes 'sticks'
- Has Carrier IQ (dieplz)

lol. Good find. Very useful when texting the gf on the go. Haha. Thanks for that! For those that don't know, it can also launch other apps as well. They finally got WiFi working on the Galaxy Sense port. They're working on the 3G next. Once they get that done, I think I'm gonna give it a go. Sense on a SAMOLED screen will probably look awesome with all that color. The XDA guys are working day and night to incorporate the Samsung source into CM7 so the battery drain won't be as bad and it looks like they got it down. Waiting for a build to flash. lol.

Galaxy S II review by Engadget:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/s...y-s-ii-review/
Chainfire has confirmed that it does have an UNLOCKED bootloader.
Also will support T-Mobile and AT&T 3G bands. I want this phone but I think I may wait it out cause my Galaxy S has been good to me so far. Lol.

^Probably a good idea. Modaco and CM_Arcee are saying that the LG G2x Gingerbread leak they have is a piece of crap. I guess LG still needs to catch up to the other companies when it comes to programming for Android. I'm sure CM7 will fix most of LGs issues but if they have a crappy base to begin with, then it'll turn a lot of devs off for sure. Right now, they're trying to figure out the battery polling that LG implemented. Apparently, its not reading the correct battery level at all and they're having a hard time getting it to work.
The rumor is, the Galaxy S II will be coming to T-Mobile. As far as future HTC devices go, a lot of devs are planning to avoid them due to the bootloader issue. Unless of course, its not that hard to bypass.

Oh wow. Gingerbread 2.3.4 is rolling out to the Nexus phones. Gmail video chat is included. So that was their "surprise" today.

ya the HTC sensation has been out in Europe for a a week or two and I figured by June when it's release here somebody will have hacked the bootloader. supposedly the g2 couldn't be perm rooted and it got done. just takes time.
galaxy II s looks like a great phone. it's definitely higher on my list than the sensation. though the sensation has some impressive stats.
as far as the g2x....I'm not all that impressed with it. it is smoother than my g2, but not by much. there is lag when changing screens or loading apparently drawer or other things. not the kind of thing I was expectiing from a dual core. the ips display is just ok. my screen flickers all the time too. maybe bug with the hardware, but not cool. I wish the screen was bigger. the battery life us much better than my g2 though. I can last more than 24 hrs with 4g, bt, wifi, and autosync on. overall, not a bad phone. just not living up to the hype, IMO.
well, i bought the G2x today and honestly speaking im not really impressed with it. ill give it some time, but if i don't like it by next week im returning it.

Yeah no definite date yet. If you don't care about your phone being subsidized and are staying with AT&T, you can order the international version and it will work on AT&T 3G bands as it is Quad band 3G as confirmed by Clove UK and Samsung's website. It is pretty expensive though, around $800 with shipping. It won't work on T-Mobile 3G as it is missing the 1700 3G band.

I can say that the phone is faster less laggy and I overclocked it and turned up the backlight to see how it would act... its hella fast and I've been using it all day and I'm at 70% with 6hrs off the charger... we will see how long it lasts...

I'm using the same calendar and battery widgets... FTW!
I've read that they expect it to, so I'm going to hold out as long as I can as well.
I was hoping for an iPhone 5 in June since I've become accustom to the UI over the last 3 years. However, a summer release looks pretty unlikely at this point, and the iPhone 4 (and AT&T, for that matter) is superior in almost no regard to the competition, so a change it is.

Can't get it to work on ATT 3G iOS in Miami. Maybe better luck with Wifi but it times out when you start the video and pops up a message that there's an error that they'll try to fix. Amazing app with tons of content. We're taking every episode of Sopranos, The Wire, Entourage, Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, sports series, and some movies like Avatar and Sherlock Holmes. But I can't watch jack.

Well I figured it out after going to Charter's website. Unfortunately, I could not get it work at all. It kept giving me the error "You have exceeded the number of household accounts allowed to stream" even though I'm the only one using it. Also, every time I try to log in, it asks me to create a new username even though I already created one already. It does the same thing when I'm using my laptop so Charter and HBO have to fix it. On the bright side, I found out that I have access to Epix HD's online streaming as part of our Charter cable.
Now I'll wait for their Android app which is supposedly coming out soon.
Here is Epix HD running on Flash through my phone:

It keeps buffering. Might be due to my internet or I need to OC my phone. lol. Acually, when I put it in fullscreen it plays decent. Epix seems to have some good movie selections.
Image quality is not bad at all. Here it is running at fullscreen:

Okay after some more testing with Epix HD and flash on my phone, it works excellent at 1.2 GHz. I forgot I underclocked my phone to save some battery earlier and I am able to stream Epix movies without any issues using flash on CM7 that's not 100% fully functioning yet on the Galaxy S. Image quality is pretty good even though its not optimized for mobile. Their selection of movies are pretty good too I must say. More info about Epix HD:

Finally HBO Go works! lol. I guess Charter fixed something on their end. It is no longer asking me to create a user account after creating 3-5 them it finally stuck to one. Good thing I didn't name it asdf. Haha. 3G streaming also works. Quality is excellent on both 3G and WiFi. Only downside is that it won't let you stream simultaneously to multiple devices. Only one stream at a time.
Google Talk with Video chat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1056793
This isn't fully working yet!!! But if you want to test it out just for fun, you might have better luck. I tried it on CM7 and I was able to see my laptop's webcam on my phone but not the other way around. I couldn't hear audio and I couldn't force my Galaxy S to use my FFC.
Instructions:
- Use Root Explorer to replace the old Talk.apk with the new one that was modified from 2.3.4.
- Backup Talk.apk from your /system/app/ folder and save it somewhere.
- Copy the Talk.apk to /system/app/ folder. Change the permissions to rw-r--r--
- Push the libtalk_jni.so to /system/lib/ folder. Change permissions to rw-r--r--
- Reboot your phone
- Test video call
To revert, just replace the new Talk.apk with your backed up Talk.apk (make sure to change permissions to rw-r--r--) and delete the libtalk_jni.so file. Reboot.
