amazon has to be worse than google at data mining

considering the big java copywrite .api android lawsuit, all the big players are moving to open sourced .API's (microsoft, apple, google)

amazon will still be a closed eco-system, ripe for data mining.

A few weeks ago i got an update from Tmobile for the edge 6+

now the fast charging feature is working 100% of the time. I dont have to "push in, pull out" and repeat 10 times anymore.

If I want to find pictures of certain people though and the person in my contacts has a picture I can put in the name and it will find them.

The transcript of the voice mails is very nice. Sometimes it's entertaining in how wrong it is, but usually its very close.

Somehow an app called "APP Lock" was automatically downloaded to my phone.

It looks like a pretty standard app to use fingerprint to unlock apps, but HOW THE HELL DID IT DOWNLOAD AUTOMATICALLY????

I KNOW I didn't download it...

also, the playstore allows you to download from a computer browser directly on to phone.
I would make sure that no other people or persons have your password and or sign out of all locations.

Hang on... It does not appear in SETTINGS>APPS, just the icon on the home screen.

when I open the icon, it appears to be offering to lock all my accounts with my fingerprint or a pssscode, but there is no 3-dot settings or ANY info about it...

honestly sounds like that icon was packaged with an app.
have you downloaded any apps recently?

I really enjoyed ES file explorer; but the ads, fake battery booster made me uninstall it quick

I had AVAST since I got the phone, but when I went to run it, it said I had just installed it and never run it before !! That had me worried, but I figured out the APP Lock icon was a "new" feature added in my add-on keyboard 'Touchpal' that they just pushed to the desktop and didn't say anything about... If it weren't the best damn swype and predictive keyboard, I would uninstall it ASAP...

Touchpal is better than the Google Keyboard? I've sworn by that thing over the crappy Samsung ones.

I was able to easily get rid of it, (I use APEX launcher, just long press and remove) but the real concern for me was that initially I had NO indication where it came from...

You know, I started using touchpal before google had SWYPE in their keyboard and I got used to it, but now that google has it baked in I may just switch back to avoid all this weird add-on crap Touchpal has. I don't need korean emoji's and pushed fake apps...

So gents....just got my hands on a Note 4...finally a proper upgrade to a proper smartphone after years of flip phone and 1 year of a cheap throwaway smartphone (Alcatel)

Now looking at the following cases for options. Which one is best? Spigen vs OtterBox vs UAG

I'm looking for MAX protection, size/shape be damned. No need for stupid looking stylish or wallet type or any slim looking ones. Which these 3 seems to have high ratings and fit the bill.

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen%C2%AE-.../dp/B00MAWQU14

https://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-Sams...tterbox+note+4

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...rds=uag+note+4

Thanks in advance for all you guys' help!!

Honestly I went cheap on my case and it's holding up fine. It's that TPS rubber where it absorbs heat but is thick enough to not nick the phone.

honestly, I dont run one because they do become intrusive and annoying...
who thought of this free-inapp purchase model!?!?!?!?!

I only download a virus scanner if I believe I have one, then uninstall.
and the scanners never turn up anything suspicious.

I originally got the Spigen Neo Hybrid for my Note 3 (its a combo TPU and polycarbonate case). Very good fit and
good protection but for everyday use it felt kind of bulky to me so I got a Spigen Ultra Fit. Again, very good fit and
the protection is quite good. My Note 3 is almost 3 years old and has had its share of knocks and bumps and the
Ultra Fit has saved it a number of times. Plus, the case doesn't feel bulky at all and has a nice non-slip feel.

So from my experience, Spigen in general are good quality cases.

Norton. Not intrusive at all IMO. I got a deal on 2 years: $50. Not sure what the regular price is. Norton also has a multi-device option as well.

Anyone on android using the Gmail app?

I have a TON of 'folders' and many of them are nested using the web interface/outlook client, but the Gmail app for android has NEVER been able to handle to the nesting, so I need to scroll through a hundred or so folders
labels to get to the last one. SO annoying...

Anyone know a workaround, app (free or paid) or way to achieve nested folders/labels on the handset?

I use Google's "Inbox" which is an evolved version of gmail.

I only have 3 "labels" so I dont have a problem looking for them...

hope you get to the bottom of it!

Thank you. I fucking hate the Gmail app. When I have to forward stuff it's a damn chore. And that's my professional acct. And I have a LOT of labels to go through.

The nesting (or lack thereof) is really my only complaint, but it's a big one.

I have projects that are assembled based on the year and month I work on them, and each project gets a folder.

2014
-140101
-140102
2015
-150101
-150304

The problem I have is that I have tons of projects in each "year" label, and on the phone trying to get the latest one in 2016 is a real swiping headache...

So what I see in the app is

2014\140101
2014\140102
2015\150101
2015\150304

etc.
I jut want to be able to collapse 2014 or 2015.

Anyone use any third party email apps that nest gmail labels?

Another vote for Spigen. I've bought three of their cases over the last few years. Much better than Otterbox.

so, the Note 7 got announced.... I don't regret not waiting.. I'm actually really happy with the S7 Edge... I thought it would be tough living without a stylus but I seem to have moved on just fine without it. I would say the only feature that I wish my S7E had is the instant .gif maker on the Note 7... you simply draw a box over any video playing on the screen and just like that... gif made (not sure if there's a limit but even if there is, it's still a cool feature IMO). I also like how the "edge" is less curved like the S7E, the Note 7's "edges" seems to really make it look like it's 100% bezel-less

but anyways, looks like a great phone, but I'm fine with the S7E because I actually think the size is perfect for me.
