Pisses me off to NO END that this is not a simple and free option to use your phone as a hotspot.
First the carriers blocked it and got sued into compliance, now the handset makers/Android Devs?
I don't get it. Why not just make this a standard option for Android "enable wifi hotspot"...

This is getting off topic, but in an ideal, fair world, everyone pays roughly proportionally for the bandwidth they consume. My parents should not pay anywhere near what I pay. I shouldn't have to pay anywhere near what the constant video/music streamers pay.
In this scenario, where you pay for what you use, there would be no need for tethering fees/etc. This would also, by nature, mean the end of 'unlimited' data plans too.
This is getting way off topic, of course.
I'll say though, that in a world where the carriers are allowed to charge for tethering, it makes sense they'd pressure android to not allow this to be bypassed. Unfortunate but not surprising.
Also, metal samsung phones have been rumored for years. They REALLY like the stuff they use (it is quite strong and light), and so they'll go metal only if they start losing considerable market share. The rumors of a new line of phones (separate from the S/Note series) which are high end and metal is more likely.

Motorola customer service has run me through the ringer a few times now. All I want is a working Moto X in a new color scheme. Spent ~2 hours over the phone and in chat with customer service. And I still haven't gotten the issue resolved. I'll probably never get another Motorola phone out of principle.
It's a shame because they've really improved their phones. Nowhere near as shitty as they once were.

I wanted a different color scheme. The new phone I got was defective. The old one was perfect
I just want to get another color, but they aren't making it easy. Long story short, yeah... 2 hours with customer service. And I still don't know if they're getting me another phone.

costco gonna costco.
Goodbye.
So costco is trying to loophole the system to get what he wants, and customer service is adhering to the rules. Costco gets mad at them for not being shitty at their job?
Typical internet.

There is no loophole. In California, you have 30 days to exchange the phone if you're not satisfied with the color options. I started the request way before the 30 day period.
The first time I called I spent ~30 minutes on the phone only for them to tell me to order a new one and then they'll reimburse me for it later.
I called them again and this next time, they gave me a code to purchase it with. Took less than 10 minutes.

No questions asked, my dick.

For Moto X devices designed with Moto Maker: Let’s say you do all of your designing, get your Moto X, and then decide you have a different favorite color. You can re-design once if you return the first one within 14 days of date of delivery (30 days in California), no questions asked.

I still like my moto x.
So I got a question. My google now used to always show time to get home. I stopped that a ltl while ago after school when i was on vacation, but now that I'm working I want it back. I turned on the location thing in the google now settings, but it still doesnt come up. Even my work wont come up in the morning unless I click more. But home will never come up, unless i bring it up on maps first.

in google now, go through the options.
it'll ask if you want to show the route to home, or something like that.
I also think it learns via GPS, so if you keep going the same route every day, it'll pick up on that and show you

Anyone has this problem with their Nexus 4?
When I try to charge my phone it wont charge. At 1st I thought it was the charger, but its not. Its my phone that wont charge. Should I just go to T-Mobile and let them deal with it?

never had this problem with my Nexus 4... well, sort of. A few times, it was the cable... changed the cable and no problems with charging. ONE TIME it wasn't the cable, but the charger part that goes into the wall

So this just happened earlier today:
Someone is gettting fired. Lol. This kid just exposed pretty much every info you could ever need to pinpoint everything about the phone and its owner.

So I've been having some crazy new phone itch the past couple of days. Its so bad I'm actually using my Galaxy Nexus at the moment to get away from Sense for a little bit so I can come back to it making my One feel like its brand new. Haha. Always happens around MWC
Really digging the Xperia Z2 but from what I'm understanding it's almost as big as the Note 3 which might be a deal breaker for me. Right now the Z2 and the new One are catching my eye. The Galaxy S5 looks like although I'm hearing Samsung will be making an F series that will be more of their premium line moving forward. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Goodbye.

The new One is actually bringing a secondary camera sensor which is supposedly going to help much more in low light than Ultrapixels. Other people are saying it might allow depth perception changing on the fly like the Lytro cameras. And if that video above is true, they added MicroSD card support which is something everyone has been getting at them for the past couple of phone models they've released. The only big issue with their iteration this time is that they left the bezel with the HTC logo in the front while going with onscreen buttons. It makes the whole move stupid because the whole point of the onscreen buttons was to get rid of the bezels. They could've kept the length of the old HTC One and gotten a slightly bigger screen.
The Z2 is a pretty big update from the Z1. The screen is what they fixed in this iteration with better viewing angles and better color gamut.
http://pocketnow.com/2014/02/28/xper...isplay-quality
They decided to go with stereo speakers that has digital audio cancellation when playing music with the speakers, upped RAM to 3 GB, and even added a 20 MP camera which is now second to the Lumia 1020 in terms of MP. On top of that they kept the waterproofing and microSD cards. So really the Z2 is a pretty major upgrade when comparing it to the Z1. Yes design wise it looks the same but specs wise its added some compelling stuff.
In either case, I'm not complaining that the manufacturers made incremental changes. I'm saying that Samsung made incremental changes while everyone else is stepping their game up.

The way the market is moving, I bet you that smartphones will start moving towards becoming a commodity soon enough.
Especially if more carriers pick up on no contracts.

It is less for me that either are much of an upgrade but rather just something new to me. If HTC fixed the camera to be at least as good as my S4 I will be happy. If it is slightly better that would be great. I feel the S5 looks to much like the S4 personally to not want and try something different.

I know other than that video we do not have much else to go on spec wise but has anyone heard if it will still have an IR port? I have started to use that a lot lately. It comes in real handy at the car rather than waiting for someone to turn the TV for you.

It's quite neat - you plug it inbetween your charger and your phone, and you can see how much amperage your phone is using to charge. It was an eye opener to see much difference using the correct charger (and correct cable!) makes.
I have a recent iphone friend who switched to the Motox and has been complaining heavily about Moto Support. She said: Love the phone. Hate everything else.

Anyone have experience with the Nokia 925 windows phone? It's on sale for 250$ right now from newegg and it's quite tempting.. Might get it just to try one out until the Sony Xperia Z2 hits our shores (hopefully)

This phone could have been a game changer if it wasn't for the lofty croudfunding goal or 32mil. Basically it would have been as powerful as a low-end pc and able to run a full desktop OS via hdmi cable and bluetooth mouse/keyboard.

My coworker recently got a nokia something or other and the stupid phone locks up on him constantly. He only installed one or two apps. Dissapointing.

First I want to get out of the way is that I don't consider the 521 nokia an entry level phone only because it is a toy in my book.
The nokia 925 Is a very well built entry level Windows phone if you get it at a price that is good for you. For me it was $0-$120 max ($120 is what I paid) for an unlocked one.
The 925 (unlocked tmobile version) from my month of heavy usage the phones feel and look was amazing, good heavy metal feel as well as the screen felt like you where holding something that could of came out of a $.75 prize machine.
It was smooth and very responsive out of the box. The display is clear and smooth with vivid colors indoors,(outside in moderate sunlight it was very hard to see what you where texting or looking at.)
The first couple of days I was in love with the phone until I checked that it was due for and update. After downloading and installing the update, of course properly fully charged battery, on wifi, and time. It froze on me at 97% after updating for over an hour I let it do its business four over three hours and nothing. I finally restarted it the only way you can since the battery is non removable and it does not have an external sd card I managed to brick it.
After hours on the phone with customer support and hours reading windows, and nokia forums i found a solution, Let that phone be with the screen on if possible and drain the battery to complete drain.
After three times of doing that and a week later I got it to work.(Nokia did offer to replace the phone for me but that would take up to 3 weeks)
The windows OS has a very cool UI and the active tiles are cool but for having a device like the 925 with an unstable os is hard to accept for me.
Over all I think I had one to many drinks and should not be writing reviews of any sorts on my phone at three thirty in the morning.
-Nokia 9XX,10XX and so forth will be my number one phone once they put android OS on them
-Samsung and HTC in second place
-Sony will be in 2.5rh place.

Sense 6.0 on HTC One (M7):
ROM is supposed to come out around the same time the new One releases but it seems they might release it earlier?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1#post51135661
Guess gonna have to keep an eye on XDA for the next few days/hours. Maybe they'll customize the ROM to disable the capacitive buttons and enable the software buttons as well.

So Plex has finally allowed people who paid for the app to use the Chromecast feature without a subscription:
https://blog.plex.tv/2014/03/13/chro...-features-ios/
You have to set up a Plex server and everything else is taken care by the app. It works great because it transcodes all the media for you so formats that aren't compatible with Chromecast will work because the server does the encoding and the Chromecast just streams the files.
Also found some plugins for Plex that makes it act like XBMC so those streaming sites are available on the server and for Chromecasting. It is a port of XBMC after all...
