I'm on stock on both my 7 and Galaxy Nexus. I am rooted and running custom kernels on both, however. CM 10.1 should be dropping any time now as I believe there are unofficial builds out there already. I'll just wait until a few nightlies before I change over. Stock is holding me over for now but there are a few things I'd like to change that CM 10.1 should have tweaked.

question, since the s3 is a nonnexus phone i know i probably wont get some future updates. But since i'm rooted, would there not be ROMs that implement the new features?? I know that touchwiz roms can probably do apps and not features. Like how i have the 4.2 camera/gallery/keyboard
but if i go to cm10 or any other ported original android development i should be able to keep up right?
Also is there any way to know the N4 battery life compared to the S3??

As for bat life, look on xda and other forums for people's experiences......though it all varies depending on user.

Depends on how good Samsung and Qualcomm is at providing the sources for the drivers for their hardware. Porting the ROMs isn't really the issue, its getting the hardware to talk to the software via the drivers. Qualcomm is pretty good about open sourcing their stuff for the most part while Samsung hasn't been the best when it comes to their Exynos line (international version of the S3). Where you'll have issues for the S3, is the Camera, RIL (Radio Interface Layer), maybe Hardware Acceleration although that can be hacked into it, and other hardware related things such as MHL and whatever other things out there. Everything else should work. The Qualcomm chipset was used in a majority of the phones that came out last year so as long as one of the devices get an update, the devs can extract some of that update from whichever device got it and port it over to the other phones. It will be a little messy, battery life won't be optimal but it will at least see the update up until the drivers are open sourced if they ever do. Some devs can reverse engineer the drivers but its a difficult process that can take days to months and most of these devs have regular jobs so none of them ever dedicate that much time into it.

If you want to understand how CyanogenMod works and how Samsung has been screwing up their Exynos line by withholding their sources for their drivers, I suggest you read Andrew Dodd's (Entropy) posts on G+:

After reading the above, you can understand why Samsung pissed off a lot of the devs for their Exynos line. They keep saying they'll change and open source their stuff but so far nothing's really happened. Its basically a wait and see what happens. I should note this isn't limited to Samsung as other manufacturers also withhold their sources for competition reasons. Its just some of them are better in providing their info than others and also that Samsung sold millions more of their devices than any of the other manufacturers which makes it a bigger deal.

I'm trying to think if i should go with CM10 or not, not even sure if its even out for my phone though....

I used one when I had the iPhone. It was great at first but became an inconvenience because of the extra steps to check your phone or pull it out. When I switched back to case I never looked at pouches again.

So I've been playing with Windows 8 the whole day. Let's just say, I'm still not totally sold on it yet but I'll leave that discussion for another day. I remembered that Splashtop had a Win8 Metro testbed for Android and the iOS so I went to look for it on the Play Store. Apparently, Splashtop 2 has taken over its function and is now free (It was $50 before). All Windows 8 gestures work on it so it basically emulates a Windows 8 Tablet on your Android or iOS device with swiping from the borders all working. Here it is running on my Nexus 7 with me demoing the recent apps gesture from the left border:
HcurY.jpg
Of course, 1:1 operation will be dependent on your internet connection and hardware. Windows 8 seems more enjoyable with a touchscreen and this is a great way to emulate that for free.

something to consider for those of you looking for cases of the N4.
At least this is for me. I take it the GS3 is roughly the same size. My dad had a case on it, and made it quite a bit thicker, then the phone became too big and made one handed use a little harder. So i dont have a case for the GS3. Although with your glass back you probably do want one...

Oh hey TSXy Luster!
Decided today that I am going to get the N4. Or rather, put my name on the long list for one. Tried it out in the mall yesterday and it is amazing. Had an N1 soon after it came out and now my mom has it. Loved that phone.

So I have a question to ask....
I am running the CM10 from Quincy for ATT Samsung Galaxy Note....
if I install a new nightly update, so I have to delete all the info on the phone? and then install the new nightly update? will I have to flash gapps again?

Just get the N4 bumper from Google (when it's in stock). It doesn't add any bulk to the phone and retains the stock naked look. It also improves the feel of the buttons. I'm still waiting for proper screen and back protection from Zagg or Ghost Armor. That should be enough protection without adding otterbox bulk.
#6827
Yes, need to re-flash Gapps. BTW as of yesterday there is an updated Gapps file . Check android police for link.

People say the bumper increases the width of the phone. I'm going to get one when it is in stock regardless, but that's the only bulk added to the phone.

You can even modify the script yourself to backup whatever extra system apps you added like Cerberus so you don't have to flash it after each Nightly. Look for the 50-cm.sh script inside each CM zip and you can see what it backs up each flash. There, you can also modify the script to save whatever apks/files you don't want being overwritten each flash.

I ordered the max coverage from Zagg. Are you waiting for their HD version?

When I said BULK I meant relative to the otterbox type cases that tun a slim phone into a brick. The bumper doesn't do that.
Love the N4 which surprises me because I hate LG.

The answer is no to both. When updating the same ROM, you can do a dirty flash. You also no longer have to reapply GApps for CM builds and a few other custom ROMs. They have a script inside that backs up your GApps and reflashes them for you. Saves you a few seconds after each flash or you can use the built-in CM autoupdater inside the ROM which can flash the nightlies for you every night automatically (Settings --> About Phone --> CyanogenMod Updater).
You can even modify the script yourself to backup whatever extra system apps you added like Cerberus so you don't have to flash it after each Nightly. Shouldn't he at least wipe cache and dalvik if he's going to flash dirty? I used to try the dirty flash with mixed results. I found that it was a slower process but had more reliable results to flash after a superwipe otherwise I'd end up with wonky GPS or camera.
Thanks for the insight to the changes in CM.

Admittedly, I haven't flashed a CM nightly since my G2 so my bad on the ignorance relative to Gapps...

So yeah, you can wip cache/dalvik cache if you like but it really doesn't do much.

I hated Zagg... ripped that crap off since dirt gets between the seems. I love my pouches for my Sammy Skyrocket and Nokia 920. Goes into the pants pocket easy, clips if needed, easy access, and the color and stitching even matches the interior of my car.
This is one I ordered recently for my 920 for $10 bucks.
